We have had a good week of adoptions. The gorgeous Otis was adopted today and in the photo is Fred, who was the stray guinea pig. Lucky boy Fred is off to live with his girlfriend.

Lucy and Fib are a pair of bonded females who are now ready to be adopted and find their forever home. They could also join another group of girls or be paired with a neutered male

Both of the girls are 4yrs old and a bit timid but are slowly coming out of their shells.

We have 3 Russian dwarf hamsters at the animal shelter this is one of them

What an extremely busy day today. The dear sewer boys (scrabble and Domino)were adopted minus the smell. Brownie and baby Beth were also adopted and we had a lovely family in for their cream tea day.
Also thank you for the people that sent us donations.

Mini came in for boarding last month. He was underweight and we noticed that he couldn’t eat his nuggets. Unfortunately his family didn’t collect him and stopped communicating with us. The vets gave him a good health check and he had an X-ray. No teeth or root issues and no arthritis visible. Another examination did show that he had a painful jaw. He has been on pain relief and is now eating his dry food. Mini is in the video enjoying his critical care. 😊

Baby swallows are nearly ready to leave the nest. It was very sad to see only one last year. 25 years ago you would see lots of them lined up on the overhead electric cables having a rest. Thank goodness the swallows have had a successful breeding season. Hopefully this will also happen elsewhere.

Our lovely boy Copper has been put to sleep

He was very well known and loved by all our volunteers, many visitors and supporters. He had been with us since 2020 and became a permanent resident here at the shelter when we discovered he had some ongoing health issues. Mostly, he struggled with arthritis and heart issues.

Through his stay with us, he was partnered with Mini. When she eventually passed away, we paired him with Mars. Who he now leaves behind.

He was always excited for his morning joint support biscuit and when being weighed, he would often climb onto our chests and would have a cuddle and some extra love.

Towards the end, he was supported by our lovely vets and staff. He was put on many different medications to help keep him comfortable and function properly. He started to slow down more and lose some weight, as well as having some issues with his heart and respiration rate. All of this was taken into consideration before making the tricky decision to put him to rest.

Rest easy handsome boy, you will be missed ❤️

Thank you so much to everyone that has donated yesterday and also to everyone else that donates and supports us. You guys are all amazing. I hope we have a turn around and things improve for us.
Daisy was one of the animals that visited the vet yesterday. She had been left abandoned in a house, in an indoor tiny cage with a blanket covering her. Not sure how long she had been like that but upon arriving with us we realised she definitely wasn’t well. Very underweight, her stance wasn’t correct, she couldn’t eat and had a lump in her mouth.
Daisy was found to have a tumour in her mouth that was bleeding. We couldn’t save her and she had to be put to sleep. It’s heartbreaking when we haven’t been able to show her love, comfort and compassion for very long but at least now she is no longer suffering.

This year has been quite a hard year for us financially. We have been overwhelmed with poorly incoming animals and we even recently had a poorly guinea pig dumped on us when the owner never collected him from boarding with us. We haven’t enough money to pay for the amount of staff that we are desperate for and have nearly 150 animals on our waiting list. Today five animals have been taking to the vets for treatment. Can anyone help us financially, either as a one off or monthly. Sorry for the ask but times are very tough.

Husbun and wife, Ralph and Flopsy are two sweethearts that love to be with each other. Flopsy does have arthritis in her hip and a lung condition but still enjoys her life.

🔍 Rescues wanted 🔎

We’re looking to gift a box of ‘mixed hays’ to 4 separate rescues. This is hay that’s gotten mixed together during packing (usually from under the scales!) that we collect up the end of each day. They will be a mix of Pure Timothy, Cotswold Sweet and Timothy Blend in unknown quantities. Whilst we can’t sell it as we can’t label exactly what it is, it’s still perfectly usable and too good to bin. If you know of a rescue that is struggling for hay supplies right now please tag them below and we can get in touch with them.

Whilst we have 4 boxes right now we will regularly have more so if we can compile a list of rescues that would benefit we can refer back to the list the next time we have a box available and work our way through them.

Most people are so happy to have this heat which we experienced today, apart from us. What a worry we had trying to keep our animals cool. Most of the pens had fans on trying to cool down the rabbits. Thank goodness it has cooled down this evening 😬

Misty one of our goats was absolutely loving scratching her head this morning on some branches 😂

Jaz has been with us since February 2023. The two friends she had been living with had died and the child had lost interest in her. Jaz was terrified at the beginning and we didn’t see her much except for a second when she would dart into another area. It took many many months before she would sit in the open and only over the last 6 months to come out for her daily pea flake. This week has been joyous to actually be able to stroke her. ❤️🥰

Caramel ended up not getting on well with Sparks. So we decided to try him with Tofu as he lossed his partner Maple. These guys seemed to work really well and have settled down nicely!

We had two very young guineas enter the shelter last week. The two original guineas that had been bought, had been miss sexed and babies were born. Two days after coming to us, one gave birth to 3 babies, who are gorgeous. Peanut and Jasper are enjoying some grass this afternoon. This cheeky pair are ready to find there forever home. Peanut is a confident vocal girl who is 3 yrs old. Her partner Jasper is a 1 yr old boy who is a bit quieter but is still gaining his confidence

Benji is a 1yr old neutered male, who is looking for a quiet loving home without children , he is a little nervous here due to the fact he was living in a quiet home where he was very much loved and spoilt, but in the right home he will settle down well. Father and son, Robbie and Cola, do love their grass, Cola is such a funny character at only just over 3 months old he was born here at the shelter. His dad Robbie is 2yrs old, they would both love to find a loving home, with a forever family. Details of all our rescues looking for new families can be found on our website.
