WARNING for all dog owners & Dogs carers.

Read on....
With the snow and ice expected the roads may well be gritted, if you walk your dog on gritted roads/paths please make sure that their paws are washed either by walking them through a few puddles away from the gritted surfaces or by dipping their feet in fresh water once at home.

Every year hundreds of pets throughout the country become seriously ill and in some cases die because of the rock salt and antifreeze being used during the cold snap. Dogs and cats walk through the substances left by gritters trying to clear roads and car drivers defrosting their windscreens and then licking them off their paws.

Consuming rock salt can cause dehydration, liver failure and pancreatitis, while antifreeze contains the chemical ethylene glycol, which can be lethal when ingested.

November is pet diabetes month with a nationwide campaign by vets to raise awareness of diabetes in cats and dogs and support the testing of our potentially vulnerable pets for the disease.
Diabetes is a serious and potentially life threatening disease and it is affecting more and more cats and dogs in the UK.

View MSD Animal Health's Pet Diabetes Month Resources page for support during pet diabetes month and the rest of the year.

The purple poppy is the animal equivalent of the well-known red poppy, worn to show support and condolences for those lost in service and those who continue to serve us. ๐Ÿ’œ

This year's unique design showcases the three main animals who served in the wars: horses, dogs, and pigeons on the purple poppy badge. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฆ

This poor fox was brought to us today by a lady after he was discovered wrapped in a football net on a school playing field. The netting was cut away but the fox was hypothermic and staggering. He had been in the net possibly since Saturday evening.

HIs neck was wrapped right in the netting so as a result the neck has swelled up and fluid has pooled under the skin. His eyes are also blood shot due to partial strangulation.
Our vet prescribed an injection of steroidal anti inflammatory medication and antibiotics and we have to now monitor him. His back is also sore, probably from thrashing about to get free.

Incidents like this can easily be avoided by pulling up football nets and securing them with rope or ties when not in use. We have had to rescue pigeons, foxes, badgers, deer and hedgehogs from nets in the past.

Fingers crossed for a quick recovery

The pandemic has been difficult for both humans and dogs alike. It has been very common to see more anxiety in our four-legged friends. If you have noticed any of the following signs in your dog, they could be related to stress or anxiety:

- Chewing more, especially when you are not there
- Howling when you are gone
- Barking more
- Unsettled
- Chewing or licking their front paws

If you have noticed any changes in your dog's behaviour, then please get in touch to discuss how Bowen Technique might be able to help.

What is Canine Bowen Technique?
Canine Bowen Technique is a series of gentle rolling type moves that are made on precise points of the dogโ€™s body across muscles, tendons, nerves and fascia. These moves help to relieve muscle tension, re-balance the nervous system and so aiding the bodyโ€™s ability to heal itself.
