Today we picked up this little guy from a lovely lady who had him abandoned in her garden for 24 hours, she had been trying to get help for him since Monday!! On Monday I gave her various phone numbers for local wildlife rescue services all of which failed this little life for one reason or another 😡
The hero of this story is really the lady who found the cub crying down her garden and eventually took him in and although feeding it completely the wrong thing (cows milk and cat food) almost certainly saved his life.
Now I fully understand that rescue centres have to have rules BUT a bit of flexibility and some better training for those answering their phones would be essential in my world. A massive thanks to Sue at Essex wildlife for agreeing to help the little soul and step up where other fell short 🥰
Finally for those reading this who do answer phones and give the public wildlife advice “ VIXENS DO NOT ABANDON CUBS IF TOUCHED BY HUMAN HANDS”, if you’re going to give advice please make sure you actually know what you’re talking about 🦊🦊

Wargrave Pigeon and Dove Rescue are brilliant.

I discovered a young black bird which wasn't moving as it was in shock the bird had lost tail feathers and a slight wound. It was on the ground and clearly not scared of me. It couldn't be left like that this evening in a vulnerable way. The lovely Sarah Ball came out for it so she can treat it and hopefully release him or her in a few days time.

I have called them out several times this year they are a marvellous family. They do this voluntarily it costs a lot to feed and care for the birds.

I shall be contacting them in a few days to find out how the bird is doing.

If you find an injured bird in the local area give them a ring to see if they can help. Tel 07909555105.

Water dishes for wildlife and dogs.

Please could people put out water in front and back gardens for wildlife during this hot spell infact all through the next couple of months.

It only takes a few seconds but your action could save the hedgehogs and birds by doing this. Hedgehogs are dying because they are severely dehydrated! Not only that a dog would appreciate a drink when they are walked early am or late eve past your property.

Hi everyone. Maple’s owner is unfortunately now seriously ill. Maple was her therapy dog & in all honesty, one of few things keeping her going. We unfortunately won’t be able to post on here as much as we would all like to, but please please do keep sharing our message for us across all social media and/or send anything you can into Thames Valley Police via 101 or their website, Crimestoppers, Dog Lost or Maple’s dedicated page (link in bio). CRIME REF: 20220321-1192. Your support has been overwhelming so far. Please keep it up for us while we try to navigate through this.

Fireworks' Night, Bonfire Night...all full of terrible dangers for wildlife. Please share this short clip in order to raise awareness of the way wildlife (along with pets, livestock and people with PTSD) suffers from the whizzes and booms at this time of year and beyond. 🦔😔

Going about my cat visits today l saw a hedgehog had drowned in a pond. Such a horrible site and a terrible shame if only the pond had been covered over so wildlife couldn't get trapped. I have a small pond but have a ladder so that hogs can climb out to safety. Please think about what could happen. Even netting that gardeners use to keep birds off their vegetables etc can be a trap for their tiny feet.

Sharing this as Diana Brimblecombe currently have this little boy in their care. See Photo of him. Let's see if we can find his family. Contact Diana Brimblecombe if you know who he belongs to.

We have had this lovely stray neutered boy handed in.
He looks like he has been well loved. So we wanted to give his family a chance to find him.
He isn’t microchipped or it’s not working.
Please contact us if you recognise him.

Have you opened sheds, garages, conservatories and greenhouses recently then have the shut the door. There could be a pet stuck inside that will not last for very long in this extreme heat!

Please check any sheds, garages building that you have had open recently. Stand well back and leave open for a while as a nervous cat will NOT come out if you are standing by the entrance.

Feline Pancytopenia

There has been at least 500 cat deaths which look like they are related to cats eating some dried food.

Ava
Applaws
Sainsbury's hypoallergenic

If you would like to look at the complete list go on Food Standard Agency recalled cat food.

This dried food has been taken off the shelves but if you have any dried food in your cupboard do your research before giving to your cat.

Hedgehogs are in danger of becoming extinct due to us humans, it is down to all of us to take care and do things differently.

I am just copying this from another hedgehog lover. See below:

This morning a dead hedgehog was found near the Hurst Park Road play area. It didn't appear to have any injuries so it possibly succumbed to dehydration or poison.

Times are very hard for these prickly creatures so anyone who wants to give them a helping hand might like to leave a shallow bowl of water out for them, especially in drier periods. Some dry cat/puppy kibble (not fish) would also be welcome.

Very recently we've seen several badly injured hedgehogs and, as has been said before, gardeners can help by checking long grass before mowing or strimming, and not using slug pellets.

Another way to help their survival is to leave suitable openings in boundary fences to allow the hogs to move between gardens as they search for food. This is even more vital now as the breeding season gets under way.

A reminder that hedgehogs are about. Please be very careful when removing undergrowth as they will be sleeping during the day and their little feet are extremely sensitive.

Also, no chemicals what so ever. They are in serious decline and never ever put down slug pellets. Hogs will eat slugs and snails but if they eat a slug pellets they will die.
