In case you missed it live on instagram… we drew our raffle this evening… if you donated yesterday you could be our winner.
We had a few anonymous donations and we didnt know if these people wanted tickets or just wanted to contribute to our cause. We didn’t want them to miss the chance to win. So for each anonymous donation we gave tickets coded by when the donation was made. These codes relate to a receipt code that the donor will have received on email.
If you made your donation anonymously yesterday and think this might be you who won please message Mark Richards Art with your transaction number…alternatively we will re draw on Saturday. Thank you to EVERYONE who entered this competition finds raised were almost £1100 plus gift aid!!!! Thank you so much to Mark Jill and Meg!!!

What does a seal sound like you might ask… often people make the sound of a sealion when mimicking a seal.
In fact they sound very different. Here is Springer one of our more vocal pups.

Bdmlr seal hospital - Pen sponsorship goes a long way to supporting our costs. We provide critical care for pups post rescue and this comes with a cost. Medication aside… a single seal can eat up to 3kg mackerel per day during rehab.
Seal Pen Sponsorship is the perfect CSR contribution if you and your business benefit from our Cornish Coast and Wildlife.
Perhaps you could sponsor a pen as a birthday gift of Wedding present?
We have pens like this one that has been sponsored in memory of a loved one… a beautiful way to honour life.
If you know any individuals or businesses who could help sponsor one of our pens please share this post.
We appreciate your support.
Thank you
Your pen sponsorship is so appreciated
That feeling when you’re eating and something goes down the wrong way 🤭😂
Don’t worry, Mary Poppins scoffed the lot eventually! 🤣
Pupdate! 🦭
Apologies for our intermittent communication these past few weeks, we are experiencing a season like we’ve never seen before and most hours of the day are being taken up looking after pups on the beaches and in the hospital 😴
Some of the pups in the pupdate will be new to you and some that we spoke about before will be missing- if anyone would like a quick update on where a pup was eventually sent for rehab please ask in the comments below or drop us a DM, and we’ll get back to you when we can!
We currently have 9 inpatients:
🤍 Priest- rescued from Cape Cornwall on the 10th of January very underweight- doing extremely well, slowly gaining weight, very bright and loves her fish!
💛 Jurassic Park- rescued from Porthgwarra on the 11th of January underweight and with some minor injuries- also doing well, gaining weight, and eating lots of mackeral.
💜 Stuart Little- rescued from Trevellas on the 12th of January, also very underweight- another amazing little seal, eating well and gaining weight, very bright!
💙 Thor- rescued from Trevaunance on the 13th of January, he had an eye ulcer and a sore mouth- Thor’s eye ulcer has healed, but we are still managing some issues in his mouth, he is however very bright and eating well
❤️ Mary Poppins- rescued from Porthcothan on the 18th of January, seen coughing up blood. Unfortunately we are at the time of the year where we start seeing cases of lungworm (a parasitic worm infection that wreaks havoc in the lungs and other areas of the body too- it can make some pups very sick and even die). Mary is responding well to treatment despite coming in initially very unwell, and is actually eating fish for herself already which is really promising
🧡 Juno- rescued from Lusty Glaze on the 18th of January, underweight. Juno is recovering well so far, she is bright and active, and loves her fish. She had a short course of antibiotics but she has finished those now
💚 Scooby Doo- rescued from Instow, N
Pups on ice! (or rather snow…) 😂🦭❄️☃️
We woke up this morning to a blanket of snow over the hospital! 😮
Our morning volunteers spotted the opportunity for some snowy enrichment- and the pups have had a blast exploring their snow trays 😁 (particularly Snowdrop in the video below- a good name choice for her clearly!)
If you have snow too we hope you have a safe and fun day! 😊
Pupdate New Years Eve.
Ok so Frozen went off to West Hatch on Tuesday to continue her rehab (new name Hercules).
Peter Pan and Red Panda joined us Tuesday underweight pups again with various wounds. A pup came in from Crantock too (Oceans 12) who sadly had to be euthanised due to having an infected rear flipper wound with bone exposed.
Wednesday Elf went to West Hatch to continue rehab and another pup “Bullet” came in from Gorran Haven but was later re released after further assessment.
Thursday Legend headed off to the seal sanctuary to continue his rehab (now called Clove). A new admit The Green Mile came in from Chapel Porth dehydrated with a lot of worms.
Today (Saturday) so far… Red Panda started self feeding. Hooray
So we currently have with us (in order of appearance in this video
1 Green Mile
2 Spirited
4 Xmas Carol
5 Peter Pan
6 Red Panda
7 Home Alone
8 Jungle Book
9 Baby Driver
A few of these pups are now self feeding so once they get clear of infections and other complications and no longer require medication and wound cleaning we are hopeful more can move along as we are still checking, monitoring and triaging pups out on the beaches daily and rehab space is a real challenge.
We are really grateful to West Hatch and the Seal Sanctuary also doing all they can to provide care for as many pups as we collectively can.
Merry Fishmas to all our supporters. We are sharing this video again to make you smile 🙂
This season we have so far admitted 65 pups, offering the highest level of critical care… under the guidance of our lead vet Natalie… stabilising, supporting recovery and providing early stages of pup rehabilitation following rescue and prior to pups moving to their pre-release rehabilitation phase. We have had highs and lows but have a great team who support each other.
They say it’s the season of gratitude and giving… and it truly is! Our hospital medics and vet team have so far this pup season given over 2500 voluntary hours caring for and transporting these pups. This of course excludes attending wider events and call-outs such as monitoring, relocating, assessing and releasing pups… or running errands for provisions and a variety of general maintenance related activities that come with having our own facility. We have a very dedicated team and cannot thank them enough! We also have a wider team of medics and call coordinators involved who are absolutely vital to our work and we are truly grateful for the support of each and every one of them.
We deeply appreciate the support of those we work closely with such as the Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre and Cornish Seal Sanctuary. We wish these teams Happy Holidays (and we know like us they will still be busy providing guardianship and care for the pups).
Last but not least YOU… our followers and supporters are so important to our work. Your donations and awareness raising make it possible for us to continue to help these pups.
THANK YOU for being part of our extended team!
What does an evening shift at the hospital look like?
We recorded this a few nights ago to give you an idea.
Things change fast here at the Seal hospital. Yesterday saw the arrival of August Rush from Saint Agnes rescued late in the evening by some of our hospital medic team after their evening shift finished. Today more of our volunteer medics rescued Annie and Tommy from Carbis Bay and Sennen.
This takes our pub count up to 9 again, although tomorrow Great Escape and Jumanji will head off to West Hatch to continue their rehabilitation. Thank you RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre and to our volunteers who will offer a door to door taxi service for these pups.
In order of appearance in this video pups are Jumanji, Matilda, Star Wars, Great Escape, August Rush,
Potato Peel, Hot Fuzz, Annie and Tommy.
If anybody is short of some ideas for how to support us, we are currently super low on blue roll which features in our Amazon wish list - the link for which is below. Not an overly exciting gift, but very useful!
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Hot Fuzz enjoying a lovely soak for the first time after her surgery to have a rear digit amputated🥰
She is doing incredibly well, gaining weight gradually and her wound is looking great.
Our other surgical case, Amelie, (who had a front digit amputated) went off to RSPCA West Hatch today as she was healing up so well and had reached a whopping 25kg!😊
Very rewarding indeed to see these pups thriving 🥳
