So my babies are getting all grown up, today is the first day they are experiencing feeding themselves on adult food. They don't seem opposed to the idea right enough lol

What a transformation in the hand reared swainsons lorikeet babies. They are spending time in a cage for the first time today and doing great. These guys will be fully weaned soon so pop in and say hello to them!

So the little swainsons lorikeet babies are coming on a treat and growing like weeds. They will be getting brought in on Sunday for hand rearing and will be coming back and forth to the shop with me each day for anyone interested in seeing them. They will be fully weaned by January.
Lorikeets are beautiful members of the parrot family native to Australia, highly intelligent birds which are known for their clownish behaviour, they are good natured, friendly and as far as parrots go relatively quiet. They are capable of mimicking human speech and various other sounds. Being hand reared these babies will be cuddly tame, very well socialised and confident, used to all household noises, other pets and car travel etc. lorikeets do not eat seed, they have very specific dietary requirements but we stock what they need. Caiques are known for their cheeky fun loving disposition, very much the little clowns of the parrot world. Due to their 100 mile an hour attitude to life they can be slightly higher maintenance than some species but they still make amazing pets and can learn to mimic words and sounds. Mum and dad lorikeet seem fairly excited about getting their nest box back after several months of rest. Hopefully there will be the pitter patter of tiny feet again very soon.
