Totally Wagged Out is looking to recruit a new Dog Walker!!

About the Applicant:-

Totally Wagged Out is looking to recruit a new Part Time Dog Walker on a casual, self-employed basis to help with the busy demand. We are looking for a caring and compassionate animal lover to join an expanding business in the North Lincolnshire area. Applicants need to be physically fit and willing to walk in all weathers. This position will ideally suit a mature adult who loves the outdoors. Usual walking hours are between 10am and 3pm so it’s ideal for anyone dropping and collecting children from school. Applicants will need to be honest, very reliable and able to work under time constraints. It will predominantly be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but holiday and sickness cover will also be required.
The successful applicant will need to apply for a basic disclosure check.

Duties will include:-

Walking dogs on an individual basis or in groups of up to 4
Home Visits
Animal Feeding and Cleaning
Meeting New Clients

Essential Requirements:-

Experience Handling Dogs
Flexibility – Usual walking hours are between 10:00 – 15:00
Full Driving Licence - A vehicle to transport several dogs
Live within close proximity to Barton upon Humber, Barrow upon Humber, Goxhill, Wootton and the Low Villages.

It might be warm outside, and you might be bored, but please, please don’t take your clippers to your double coated dog 🐶

You might think that it will keep your dog cool and that you’re doing him a favour, but let me just tell you, you’re really not. In fact, you’re doing the complete opposite 🤷🏻‍♀️

Double coats are designed to keep dogs cool in the summer and protect from the elements, including the sun. If the coat is regularly brushed and well maintained (with the dead undercoat removed) the coats allow air to pass through and keeps the dog cool.

By clipping your dogs coats off (or by not brushing out the dead coat!), you are removing the ability for the coat to work effectively. The air will no longer be able to pass through the coat and you’ll be exposing the skin to the sun.

Not only that, but it’s highly likely that the coat (if it grows back, some don’t) will be absolutely ruined.

I know that I’ll get comments here saying ‘yeah but I’ve clipped my dog and she’s definitely cooler.’...

You may believe she is and that’s cool, but you can’t argue with science. It’s a categorical fact that clipping off the coat of a dog with a double coat does in fact increase body temperature.

So, whether you have a dog with a thick double coat i.e. German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Chow Chow, Pomeranian or Husky, OR a dog with little undercoat like a Labrador, Rottweiler, Bullmastiff or Chihuahua, please leave them alone 🙏🏻
