This Christmas has been a time of rest, big walks and family for us. One thing Bronn isn’t good at is visitors, he gets soo excited. So that’s something (along with lots of other things) we will be working on. Your goals can be anything big or small, but whatever you want to work on I’m here to help. #newyear
NO Bronn’s were harmed during this process and yes he will get a walk… later. Having a duvet day or a late start is OK. Don’t beat yourself up about not being out by 7am or not having something to post on instagram. Enjoy your time together active or not 💤
How much exercise does a high energy or working breed need??
The answer is probably less than you think!
Bronn is a high energy dog, he isn’t motivated massively by anything. He likes a ball, likes his treats but can take or leave them. He does however like learning for short stints and is very pleased with himself for getting it right. So we walk a good few miles a day and he gets playtime with me and other dogs but that doesn’t cut it. 10 minutes of ‘brain training’ takes the edge right off him and in his ‘silly’ teenage moments that’s all I need to settle to him.
Forget long walks and endless ball throwing, try some short obedience or trick training drills. It’s the equivalent of doing a Sudoku in the morning!

This little one had their first trip to the local today. How do you teach your puppy/dog to settle in new and exciting places? … See below 👇
🏠 Start at home then on a bench on your walks with no distraction first.
🐶 Pick a dog friendly venue that has plenty of space, you might want to start outside.
🦴 Take some high value treats and a nice chew/lickmat etc that will last a little while.
😴 Have a walk first so the dog is ready for a rest.
🕰️ Keep sessions short and don’t expect too much.
☕️ Get your coffee or tea in a takeout cup incase you need to leave earlier than planned.
✋ Don’t worry about telling people to leave the dog alone while they are training. If they are settled politely ask people@to ignore them.
Monday morning training. We always start with a mooch about and a play time before getting into training. Tug is Bronn’s favourite game so that always happens much to my shoulders dislike!
Loose lead session this morning before the storm arrived!
We started by reinforcing the position we wanted the dog to walk in off the lead. The lead is the problem for owner and dog and often becomes a tug of war. Removing the lead stops any frustration and distraction.
Next we reintroduced the lead and drilled the same exercises as off lead.
Finally we move outside to work with more distraction.
Loose lead walking takes ALOT of patience and practice but.. practice makes perfect.
A couple of little wins from yesterday. Ottis walking past his nemesis ’the donkeys’ calmly & rescue Milo started work on recall.
The 6 week group classes have finished for 2024.
