Canine Connections at Central Bark Positive, reward based dog training to help you and your dog reach your full potential. In my spare time I volunteer for he German Shepherd Dog Rescue.

I have worked with dogs since leaving school 27 years ago and have always aspired to promote canine welfare and had a keen interest in dog training. After leaving school I attended Kirkley Hall College to complete an NVQ 3 in Animal care whilst working in kennels. After leaving kennels I started working for a large pet store and ended up managing several stores and working as an adviser in pet car

e for the company. During this time I completed numerous nutritional courses in partnership with premium feed manufactures & obtained a City & Guilds qualification in Pet store management and Animal care. My previous dogs, Benny and particularly Maverick (retired/failed police dogs) found me seeking a more in depth understanding of dog behaviour and this lead me on my journey over 20 years ago. My passion for nutrition was started and the relationship between diet behaviour still remains a core part of my training programmes. I am a gold level instructor with the Academy of dog training & behaviourists and full member of the Guild of dog trainers. Professional development is very important to me and I am studying Advanced Canine Psychology at the Animal Care College and continuing courses with the world renowned School of Canine Science. I am a registered microchip implanter, qualified Pet First Aider and a registered C-SQP, meaning I am able to advise and dispense certain veterinary products. I specialise in aggressive dogs and behavioural problems associated with these aspects. My passion for nutrition interlinks with my holistic approach to dog behaviour, looking at all aspects of the dogs health, well-being & environment. I love spending time with my boys Oki & Denver who are Saarloos Wolfdogs & my now retired horse Tova. I also own and operate Central Bark Dog day-care which is where i run my classes and training workshops. Central Bark has been providing first class day care services for over 9 years and is set in acres of beautiful countryside just outside of Morpeth. Secure in and outdoor facilities are available and all of our staff are first aid trained, qualified, experienced, fully licensed i and insured.

So many of you will have met Bruce at training or helping me out on social walks with nervous dogs. It’s ironic as when I first met him many years ago he hated me and wanted nothing more than to bite me! With the care and dedication of his new owners he became the most loving and sweet boy, giving me cuddles and kisses everyday at daycare. He taught Bronn manners too, for which I’ll always be grateful 😂. We were able to visit him in between Xmas and new year to say goodbye one last time and in true Bruce style he bashed Bronn one more time 😂.
I will miss him very much X

Most dog bites happen in the home, a lot of them happen over Christmas and unfortunately often involve children.
What can you do to prevent these issues?

🎁 Keep to your dog’s normal routine wherever possible. Make sure they are fed and walked at the same time as usual to avoid stress.

🎅🏻 Ensure your dog has their own space so if it gets too much they have some peace. If they won’t take themselves off you may have to remove them and put them in a crate or another room for a break.

🌲 Have rules and boundaries and informing all visitors, especially children of how to behave. If the dog is eating, sleeping or in their quiet/safe space- LEAVE THEM ALONE.

🚨 Look for signs your dog is stressed, recognise small body language changes. Check out the website below.

🧝 NEVER leave your dog unsupervised with children or strangers.

🐶 NEVER punish a growl, this is your dogs way of warning you they have had enough. Listen to your dog and act before they do.

Activity class cancelled today as outside is a no go (obviously) and we have no power so the unit is pretty dark and too dangerous to be running around in.
You should have all received a text/email to let you know by now. Stay warm and I will see you all next week.

Loose lead session this morning before the storm arrived!
We started by reinforcing the position we wanted the dog to walk in off the lead. The lead is the problem for owner and dog and often becomes a tug of war. Removing the lead stops any frustration and distraction.
Next we reintroduced the lead and drilled the same exercises as off lead.
Finally we move outside to work with more distraction.

Loose lead walking takes ALOT of patience and practice but.. practice makes perfect.

You may receive an email from Petchip.network advising that your pet’s microchip registration has expired and you need to pay for it to be updated – PLEASE IGNORE. THIS IS A SCAM. The email comes with a link taking you to a page showing your pet’s name, microchip number, your contact phone number and looks very convincing. PLEASE IGNORE.

There is a list of approved databases on gov.uk: Get your dog or cat microchipped - GOV.UK

Typically you would only pay a fee or first registering your pet or if you contact the company to update your details .

It is important to keep your pet’s microchip contact details up-to-date including if you move address or change phone number/ email address. Please contact your microchip provider direct to update your details.

📚 I have just completed a course in Holistic Health with the British College of Canine Studies.
🌱 The course covers alternative medicines, nutrition and supplements, emotional and psychological therapies and other alternative treatments and preventative measures.
🌍 Taking a holistic to dog behaviour means I look at all aspects of the dog’s health, well being and environment.
