Signs of a healthy cat - Digestion
Your cats tummy is another tell-tale sign of overall health and well-being. A healthy cat should pass good firm stools, ideally twice a day. They should not be too soft or runny. Feeding a healthy, balanced and easily digestible diet supports regular bowel movements, while allowing your cat to absorb maximum nutrients for optimal health. Signs of a healthy cat: - Skin and Coat

If your cat is healthy on the inside, it will show on the outside! Your cat should have a shiny, smooth coat and healthy-looking skin (not red, irritated, dry or flaky). Your cat should be grooming themselves regularly and keeping themselves clean. A change in their grooming habits (over grooming) or their coat (becoming dry and rough) can signal something isn’t right, so you should make an appointment with your vet.

Make sure your cat has clean teeth and pink gums. In a healthy cat, there should be no gingivitis (inflamed, red and sore gums) and little discolouration to their teeth (which can occur with plaque and tartar buildup). Feeding a fresh, natural diet prevents tartar build up.

Signs of a healthy cat: - Body Condition

Body condition really matters. If your cat is overweight or underweight it can have health issues as a result.
Regularly assess your cat’s body condition by feeling your cat’s ribs while lightly running your fingers along the side of their chest, just as you would feel the bones at the back of your hand. If their chest feels more like the palm of your hand, they may be overweight. If it feels like the knuckles at the back of your hand, they may be underweight.
Diet plays a major role in maintaining a optimum body condition.

Signs of a healthy cat: - Behaviour

Your cat should be willing to get up from their bed, be alert, active and interested in exploring their environment. They should always go to their food and water when you place them down.

As your cat gets older, they may slow down and you may notice slight changes to their behaviour. However, if they show reluctance to do these activities or significant changes to ‘usual’ behaviour can be a sign that something is wrong – meaning they should be checked over by a vet.
