I love this image...

It shows just how vulnerable the young horses’ skeleton is.

Look how long it takes for the lower jaw & poll to mature.

We put bits in young mouths & in some cases force their bodies into an outline way before their skeletons have matured.

To help you understand what the horse feels when you sit crookedly in the saddle…

Load a wheelbarrow heavily to one side as in the center illustration. Now push the wheelbarrow, and feel how it pulls to the weighted side and how you are forced to lean in that direction to compensate. That’s how your horse feels when you sit unevenly in the saddle, as shown in the left image. When you sit evenly, the horse will be centered and balanced as shown in the illustration on the right. —Sharon Sweet (Illustration by Sandy Rabinowitz)

We have now been awarded the title of ‘Best Business of 2019’ by ‘Three Best Rated’ for Chiropractors in Edinburgh.

Hard work, a post graduate course, (open only to vets and Chiropractors) to add to the degree in Chiropractic, and above all, a genuine care and love for all animals.

Does your dog need to show symptoms before getting checked?

The answer is no, not necessarily. The key, in part, is in looking back to the natural world.

It’s In Their Nature, Here’s why: in nature, it is not helpful for animals to act sick or express the severity of an injury for example or even when diagnosed with illnesses such as cancer, they may act as normal.

Sick animals get eaten because they stand out from the pack. Sick animals attract the attention of predators.

Another reason acting sick in the wild is detrimental is that a dog could lose its pack position. To maintain their status among peers, it is better to be healthy and vigorous. Those acting sick lose status. Thus they have a strong social penalty for acting ill.

It becomes clear that showing signs of sickness can make matters worse for a dog in the wild. There is a strong instinctive drive hide illness.

What Works In Nature Doesn’t Work in Domesticity! This instinct creates a problem when our canine companions are in need of medical attention. Driven by this strong natural tendency, dogs hide their physical problems from those responsible for them: us!
Many medical problems are kept under wraps, masked from caring dog guardians.

Many 'symptoms' (NOT the cause) such as;
- Pain when being touched or lifted
- Reluctance or difficulty climbing stairs or jumping
- Negative changes in behaviour or attitude
- Abnormal gait, shortened stride or lameness
- Altered sitting (Puppy sitting)
- Changes in eating and bowel movements
- Licking or chewing paws
- Change in performance
- Laying only on one side

are often seen as 'old age' or somehow expected. Remeber, these are SYPTOMS, NOT the actual cause. At ABC Animal Chiropractic, we look for the root cause and treat the problem, not just the symptom.

Call us today on 0131 629 4142 and see how Chiropractic Care could help your dog.

So...which statement is for Humans and which for Canines? Or are none for Canines or none for Humans??

In fact the top statement is for canines -
"with 80% presenting with various orthopaedic complaints are consistent with back pain - that being a stilted gait and poor balance to behavioural changes, stiffness, inability to jump, shifting lameness or a lameness which localises one leg without any abnormalities being detected in the limb itself. Poor performance in the canine athlete may also be due to pain in the cervical, thoracic or lumbar"

and the bottom statement for humans -
"Experts estimate that as much as 80% of the population will experience a back problem at some time in their lives.
Most cases of back pain are mechanical or non-organic—meaning they are not caused by serious conditions, such as inflammatory arthritis, infection, fracture or cancer."

so...we are not so different. See how Chiropractic care can help both YOU and your dog! Call us today on 0131 629 4142

Wise words from a 10x world Agility Champion.

These words come from a person who won World Championships with a 10 year old dog: "I think it is better to wait just a few months longer to do “real agility” and with that possibly increase the amount of years to run with the dog. There is no need to start competing when the dog is 18 months old."

Let's listen to this. Let's take care of our best friends and respect the development of their bodies

4 years today we opened the doors to the new clinic and have gone from strength to strength and continue to help people and their animals from not only the local area but as far as the Isle of Arran .
Although we are growing, the goal of ABC Chiropractic is and will always be, to help as many people and their families AVOID the increasing amounts of unnecessary back pain, neck pain etc and increasing use of pain killers, but to keep everyone at the best they can be BEFORE they get to that!

Thank you all for your continued support and also congratulate yourselves for making a healthy choice 👍🏻🥳

Did you know, in the summer of 2007, four animal chiropractors were invited to attend the Agility Association of Canada’s National Championships. More than 600 dogs from all over Canada and the U.S. were registered for the event. The four animal chiropractors performed approximately 200 canine adjustments that weekend.

When many of the handlers were asked why they wanted their dog checked, the answer was, “I want to make sure that my dog can run well this weekend. No aches. No pains. Just keep my dog’s body working efficiently.” 🐶

We are happy to support and provide free treatment to all police dogs and handlers .

So what is Finn’s Law all about?
“On October 5th 2016 my police dog, Finn and I were chasing a robbery suspect when he turned and attacked us. Finn sustained serious stab wounds to the chest and head whilst protecting me. I sustained a stab wound to the hand.
Finn stopped the knife from reaching me and saved my life. Even after being stabbed through the lung Finn did not let go of the suspect until other Police Units arrived and arrested him. Finn was not expected to make it through the night. The suspect was charged with ABH for the injuries to me and only criminal damage for the horrific injuries to Finn.
This is currently one of the available charges for someone who seriously injures or kills a police or service animal in the line of duty, as they are considered as being property. I hope you agree that is not acceptable, Finn isn’t a plant pot or window and should not be treated as such. Eventually after more than 6 months of legal arguments our attacker was found guilty” – PC Dave Wardell

Dogs pull when walking on a leash for a variety of reasons.

They might want to play, explore, investigate or be social they may be over-excited, nervous or aroused, some dogs will pull to get out of a fearful situation
Teaching your dog to walk nicely on the leash will be part of the behaviour management program if your dog is destructive.. over aroused .. exciteable.. hypervigilant, hyperactive ..doesn't listen.. is a nervous dog ..cautious. . has a poor recall, etc

Mostly walking nicely on a leash is about manners, training and enjoying the interaction.

If you are struggling to walk your dog get in touch with us
