Dogs noses are amazing! 🐶

Not only do they provide vital air to our beloved puppers, they also give dogs super-human smelling powers, which can really come in handy finding a place to eat during a long walk!

With these finely tuned tools upon the tips of their noses, they have helped us bumbling humans crack crimes and catch cancer, as well as finding ol' Jimmy, who has gotten stuck down the well, again!

Now winter has finally arrived in the Rhondda, it is high time where we return the favour and be especially vigilant with our pets out on walks; whether it's minimising walking time on busy roads to avoid grit building up between the paws, to being mindful in streets where cars have been de-iced to reduce the chances of ingesting contaminated snow. These are but a couple of things to be extra aware of during these potentially snowy months ahead! ❄️🥶

So I was minding my own business setting up a spot to take photos of the birds and I had a surprise visit from "Benny" (I don't know his name, so it's Benny the bengal)

He usually pops around for some treats whenever he hears a commotion in the back garden.

He's a proper sweetheart to be fair! Regardless of his scars!

Have you ever had a hedgehog scratch on your door?

I have! It was just a few months back. I could here scratching late at night, I thought it might have been one of the local cats that I share treats with, but I opened the door to find a pair of tiny beady eyes looking back up at me, it was a hedgehog! I couldn't believe it!

Thankfully I had some dog food spare and placed a little bowl outside. Just be mindful of any other animals in the area, as we all know animals are at their most vulnerable when they are eating/sleeping. So just keep an eye out!

🦔 Leaving food out for hedgehogs helps ensure they've put enough weight on before hibernating.
💙 They love wet or dry cat and dog food, meaty hedgehog food and water.
⛔ Never give them other foods like bread, milk or mealworms - it's not good for them!

💧 😱 Uh oh! This handsome fox was in need of a helping paw after becoming stuck in a hole, in Telford. Luckily, he was found by Severn Trent Water and brought to safety by one of our animal rescuers! 🙌

Mr. Fox was taken to Cuan Wildlife Rescue where he was dried off and treated for some minor injuries before being released the same day 🦊

I met with the Dogs Trust in Parliament to back their campaign calling for urgent action to end the cruel practice of Puppy Smuggling.
I was invited to discuss how MPs can work with the charity to end the illegal trade by ensuring the Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) Bill is passed in Parliament.
The Kept Animals Bill includes provisions to tackle misuse of the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS), which is being abused through use of falsified documents to import puppies – often unvaccinated and in very poor conditions – which are then sold to unsuspecting buyers in the UK.
The Dogs Trust is also calling for the Bill to include a requirement for visual checks of dogs being transported across international borders.
I hope that Dogs Trust’s campaign will motivate the Government to progress with the Kept Animals Bill and to include their recommendations, as this will be key to bringing about the end of Puppy Smuggling.

There is no shortage of frolicking, fun and friendship with this pair!

If you are looking to socialize your beloved pet, then booking in with Walkies Rhondda is a great place to start.

All of the dogs I work with are very friendly and are used to being around lots of dogs with different temperaments.

There are many benefits to socializing your dog. It gives them a chance to express themselves and find their feet in new situations around other dogs, which studies have found helps to reduce nervousness and can lower aggression levels.

Dogs also form friendships (Just like us!) and they value the time spent with their canine companions.
