Little Tiny Tempah has been feeding well from a syringe and he’s even started lapping the special formula already!
“I’m a big boy and I can feed myself” 😊
Quite a difference from when he arrived less than 48 hours ago 🥹
Babies galore ❤️❤️🦔
Well it’s been a very busy at BHR with babies ❤️❤️ it’s tough work but it’s very rewarding… babies need specialist care so please never try raise a baby or any hog by yourself they should be handed in to the professionals 🦔❤️
The little hoglet from Parkhill, near Arbroath, has been named ‘Chicken Little’ by our volunteers because he was so keen on the chicken-flavoured rehydration drink we use.
His wound is already looking a lot better - thank goodness all the little visitors (maggots 🤢) were removed. If even one gets left behind, it will start to eat the hoglet alive. They don’t just feed on dead flesh, they keep going. Removing all the fly strike is probably the most difficult job for new admissions.
He has a good appetite. This was him in his small incubator lapping up his sloppy mixture of puppy mousse and puppy milk last night with ‘Mum’ keeping a watchful eye 😍
You’ll never guess what arrived last night …
… another Ardler hoglet that’s more than likely to be a sibling of Rosie’s.
This one arrived lovely and warm and looking quite bright so they were fed and put in an incubator together 💕🦔🦔💕
Both are doing well this morning.
Rowan, from Montrose, must be starting to feel better. He’s tucking into his biscuits 🍽️🦔👍🏻
Harriet can smell freedom … it’s time to get her back to Forfar 🏡🦔🌿
Quick updates on the rest of our hogs on another incredibly busy week at BHR … 😅
🦔 Hamish, the one-eyed hog, was finally released in a lovely, hedgehog-friendly green space in Arbroath on Thursday night 👋🏻
🦔 Molly was also released on Thursday to the quiet spot on Balunie Drive, Dundee where she was first found. She left us at twice the size she was when she arrived 👏🏻
🦔 Maple, from Perth, has finished her treatments and should be ready to move outside 👍🏻
🦔 Boss is still his usual delightful self but I’m afraid his swelling hasn’t gone down any 😔
🦔 Hilary, from Balunie Gardens, Dundee has been here for over a week and I don’t think she’s had a mention. We were very worried about Hilary because she wasn’t eating but I’m pleased to say that she’s up and eating and drinking on her own and starting to gain weight now. Thanks to Michelle Kerwin for getting help for her 🙏🏻
🦔 Knuckles, found at Monikie Primary back in April, has been moved outside and is doing well. We think he only sees out of one eye but no daytime appearances so far 👍🏻
🦔 Arbroath hog, Biscuit, moved outside a few days ago and she’s doing fine. We need to make plans for her release 👍🏻
🦔 The children at Strathmore Primary in Forfar chose ‘Harriet’ as the name for the hedgehog found lying out in the open outside the school. She’s doing really well - an almost empty bowl of biscuits every morning. She can move to an outside run tomorrow 👍🏻
🦔 Shrinky, from St. Andrews, is a wee miracle! She’s fighting off all of her issues and she now weighs over 700g. When she arrived she was only 312g 🤩
🦔 The hog from Traquair Gardens in Ballumbie is now called ‘Sam’. She’s doing fine. Her weight is bouncing around a bit so we just need to be sure there’s nothing else going on with her 🤔
🦔 Hannah Farquhar was concerned about ‘Mr. Pickles’ who she had seen in her garden in Monifieth a fe
Oh, we have a resident in one of the houses in the garden 🤩
Biscuit looks like she’s dreaming of a return to Arbroath.
You’re almost there, Biscuit 👏🏻
Maple is protesting about her biscuits 😁
Look Maple, it’s 50/50 between you and Sam for who moves outside next. If I were you, I would eat the biscuits 🙏🏻
Biscuit, from Arbroath, was moved today 👏🏻
She joins Molly, Harold, Knuckles, and Hamish in the outside runs 🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔
We got lovely news this morning …
Dorothy, who is one of the three hoglets from St. Andrews last Summer, has had babies of her own 😍👏🏻
Thanks to Amanda for sharing this video 🙏🏻
I’ve put a video in the comments that shows Dorothy, George and Kimberley as little hoglets in the rescue last year 😍
A couple of visitors to one of the feeding stations in the garden last night 🦔❤️🦔
This went on for over 3 hours. I left them to it …
Shrinky, from St. Andrews, was very small and thin and had multiple parasite issues when she arrived but she’s improving every day 👏🏻
She’ll be moving to a bigger space tonight.
We got quite a few hedgehogs outside last night for a sniff around 🌱🪵🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🌿
Here are Maple and Biscuit - they weren’t put off by a few raindrops 🌧️
(The red light lets us keep an eye on them and disturbs them less than white light.)
‘Hilary’ was a new arrival from Balunie Gardens in Dundee yesterday 🦔
Michelle spotted her in her garden and thought she looked a bit lethargic so called us for advice. The behaviour she described was not that of a nursing mum on a mission. When we checked Hilary over she felt cold so she was brought back to the rescue.
She’s been warmed up and is being rehydrated. She hasn’t eaten or had a drink on her own yet. There’s a little blood now and again on her blanket but we’re still trying to see what’s wrong. It can take a while since a hedgehog’s natural instinct is to curl up when it senses a threat 😬
She was trying to get comfortable here so I went and tucked her in. Hopefully we can get her in a bigger space soon. It will take a bit of juggling hogs around because we’re so busy at the moment. Thankfully there are a couple who could be moving outside in the next few days 👍🏻

We couldn’t do it without you!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
As promised, here is the footage from Melanie’s garden in Forfar. It shows a male hedgehog attempting to woo a female 🦔❤️🦔
When I’ve seen it before it’s been more like he circles her and she chuffs and spins round to stop him getting behind her.
This ritual can go on for hours and then it might not even result in mating.
Do you remember the hedgehog that came in 3 weeks ago absolutely covered in ticks??? 🤔
Harold has finished all his parasite treatments and he moved to an outside house and run today 👏🏻
The clips from his camera aren’t saving but I’ve managed to get this …
💙 Father’s Day Draw 💙
I promised I would draw the winner of the Father’s Day bundle tonight and I’ve made it … just!! 😅
I’ll be in touch with the winner about collecting their prize so they can gift it to the lucky recipient.
Thanks so much to those who bought 31 numbers raising £93 towards the care of our hedgehogs 👏🏻🙏🏻
I have seen it all now, Maple! 😂
