How lovely to hear all these positive and wonderful reports about our Bulldog Clubs Shows. I hope and wish it may continue in this way.
All Clubs have the duties to cooperate with each others for the sake of our breed. My advice to all clubs and their members to be united together, kind and helpful with each others. It is our National breed and we have a duty to protect it.

The past example of Mr Frank Adcock solicitor from the London & North Western Railway, who become possessed of two of the Spanish milk- cart dogs Toro and Donna, both of which showed some points of the Bulldog, but possessed to much larger extent the point of the Mastiff and were both crop eared.
Mr Alcock wrote many articles to the papers during 1874 to 1878, eulogizing the breed and one of the things he aimed at was to produce a bulldog over 100 pound weight. In many occasion he expressed a hope that the old breed of Bulldogs would be "wiped off the face of the earth".

We have saved the Pure Bulldog from extinction in1875 and it is our duty today to do this again, We are the minority who does go to shows, so let's joind hands and help every single club we have by paying our membership subscription, entering Club shows, Seminars and any other functions they may do.

The Swiss bulldog club.

A bit of history on Bulldog Clubs In The World.

The Swiss Bulldog Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a Jubilee Championship Show held in Gossau, on 25th May, 1975.

The Club was formed in June 1925 when 11 founder members with a common interest in our breed met in a hotel in Basle. Over the years the bulldog has increased in popularity and the Club in 1975 has a membership of 116.

An informal and friendly atmosphere prevailed and the show attracted visitors from many countries, including Australia and U.S.A.

The show was honoured by the presence of the Vice-President of the Swiss Kennel Club, Herr. Knopfler, who presented the Club with a beautiful plaque to mark the occasion. A great interest in our breed was apparent by both exhibitors and visitors, many of whom had attended the Centenary Show of the Bulldog Club Inc. In 1975.

Forty-five dogs were entered in the 8 classes with just one absentee. Best in Show was the bitch Castizo Transcaf Scania (DOB 1973), bred by Mr. Ralph Chambers and exported to Mr. and Mrs. Bruderer of Neukirch, Switzerland. Best opposite s*x was the dog int, Ch. Pickwick Eick, bred and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Angehrn.

Tale of stud dog

Your dog is a Champ. He finshed fast.
You think you have found some peace at last!

But he is at stud, and there is the tale.
You get overwhelmed with floods of mail.

You send out pedigrees and then...
You never hear from them again.

When letter writing is at an end,
Then phone calls drive you round the bend,

Each bitch is special, the family pet,
They have had her checked out at the vet

She lifts her lip (but she's really sweet)
Her pedigree is hard to beat.

A maiden bitch, she is small, she is tall:
She backs you up against the wall,

She arches her back, she will not stand,
and no one offers a helping hand.

Her feet are poor, her back is bad,
Coming and going shes pretty sad.

Polite... you comment her pigment is nice,
Releasing a flood of unasked for advice.

Expert critics, filled with lore,
Talking their heads off an hour or more.

Your dog is too big can not really gait.
They will gladly explain all his faults while you wait
you wonder what they ever bred to him for.

the months have tolled by, and the stud fee got paid
You hear at their birth what each puppy weighed.

you hear all their troubles and that is where is halts.
Of course, your poor dog gets the blame for their faults.

And as the time passes you don't hear a thing.
Then one of the puppies show up in the ring.

He is tops and he is winning, but here is the hitch
you guessed it his virtues all come from the bitch .

One things is mater for those historic names?

Harold Dooler, Izzard Davis and Arthur Westlake , John Barnard , Roger Bolton the man of no nonsense, Claude Bannister, Arthur Smith, Dorothy Nichols, Mrs Hope and Jess Millett, George Wollens judging a class in about five minutes, to all those people only one thing mattered they all wanted to breed a good bulldog, and they knew what they wanted, that long brick skull with the furrow, the wide swept underjaw, the expression which is now nearly gone, when it said stand-off, the lovely light hindquarters which could be covered by one hand, I grieve for what we have lost, but I believe the love of the breed is still there, only two things ruin it sometimes, unsporting behaviour, and the love of money.
