We want to congratulate Chris on passing his Official Veterinarian (OV) exam. He is now qualified to deliver veterinary services on behalf of the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). His OCQ(V) - CA (Companion Animals) qualification means Chris will be able to certify the relevant paperwork next time you take your pet on holiday abroad. Well done Chris!

🚨🐾 What is a pet emergency? Do you know when to call? 🚨

As pet owners, it can be hard to know what’s urgent and what can wait—but in some situations, every minute matters.

☎️Out of hours? You’ll still reach a vet on the phone for advice and triage on 01904 393393.

While we’re not always on-site 24/7, there is always professional support available to guide you on the next steps and direct you to emergency care if needed.

17/04/2026

From 22 April 2026, new EU rules will come into effect for pets travelling to the EU from Great Britain.
An EU pet passport, issued to or held by a pet owner who is resident in GB, will no longer be a valid document for travelling with pets to the EU. This applies to EU pet passports issued in an EU Member State or Northern Ireland, including those issued before 22 April 2026.
EU pet passports may only be issued to owners whose main residence is within the European Union.
GB residents travelling to the EU with a pet dog, cat or ferret will need to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for travel from 22 April 2026.
Please contact us if you hold an EU pet passport and are travelling with your pet after 22nd April. Our Official Veterinarians (Ovs) can advise you on how to travel with your pet under the new rules.
More detailed guidance on the changes coming into effect from 22 April 2026 will be published on GOV.UK.

Fun & Educational Guinea Pig Facts

• Guinea pigs aren’t actually pigs—and they’re not from Guinea! They originate from the Andes in South America.

• Their teeth never stop growing, which is why constant access to hay is essential to prevent dental disease.

• Guinea pigs can’t make their own vitamin C (just like humans), making them prone to Scurvy if their diet isn’t balanced.

• A happy guinea pig will “popcorn”—jumping and twisting in the air when excited 🥹

• They communicate with a variety of sounds, including “wheeking” (often when they hear food preparation!)

• Guinea pigs are hindgut fermenters, meaning their digestive system relies heavily on gut bacteria—sudden diet changes can cause serious issues.

• They practice coprophagy (eating special soft f***s) to absorb essential nutrients—this is completely normal and healthy!

• Guinea pigs are highly social and should ideally live with other guinea pigs to prevent loneliness and stress.

• Their eyes are positioned on the sides of their head, giving them a wide field of vision—but poor depth perception.

• Guinea pigs are born fully furred with open eyes, ready to explore shortly after birth!

We want to wish Marshall the best of luck in his new job. Marshall joined us in 2020 during COVID as an animal care assistant and became our first student veterinary nurse. He successfully passed his exam last year and, with his new qualification, is now ready to fly the nest.
Marshall is well-liked by animals, clients and staff alike, and we have no doubt that he will attract a similar following in his new workplace too.
We are grateful for his role in shaping our nursing team over the last 5 years, and wish him well in his future career as an RVN!
