⭐️Our NEW Intro Package⭐️
Our intro package is designed for horses completely new to the water treadmill, or horses who have used a water treadmill before but may need a refresher and need gentle acclimatisation to our therapy centre. This package aims to safely and effectively introduce horses to the treadmill, so they can thoroughly adapt to the new environment physically and mentally without overstimulating and risking overwhelm.
What you can expect:
- Three separate 15 minute water treadmill sessions, each one set within an hour long appointment to ensure plenty of time without rushing.
- Gentle sympathetic approach with knowledgeable, trained, qualified staff.
- Horse consultation identifying aims, objectives and creating a bespoke plan.
- Water will be introduced incrementally throughout the sessions dependant on individual horse.
Research* has suggested that biomechanical variables and heart rate reach a steady state by the third or fourth session, therefore it is important to give the horse this time to adjust before continuing with their programme.

The lovely Conor McGregor aka sausage showing us how to work correctly on the treadmill, he’s a very large 5 year old who’s really benefitting from his weekly sessions, he’s dropping his head nicely staying soft through his neck, moving his back nicely and straight and tracking up well. We don’t take the water to deep with him so we don’t over cook him. His owner and riders are saying how much straighter and more forward he is to ride.

Water treadmill is not just for rehabilitation, it’s also for strengthening and fitness work. Pluto is preparing for his jumping season ahead having had quiet winter due to me working to hard!
It’s a great way to give them another form of exercise and keep their brains active, added muscle and mobility work will hopefully prevent injuries
We had a very successful assessment day this week with Maruska from Bridgefield Physiotherapy. The video shows how we work together on the assessment days to progress rehabilitation and achieve optimal work.
Every horse/ pony is different and has different needs so it’s important to assess properly it’s not a 1 program fits all and depending on injury fitness level, way of going and conformation we adjust the speeds, water height and whether we use the incline.
Our next assessment days are :
Thursday 29th February
Thursday 25th April
I’m often asked whether we every have horses who won’t go on the treadmill, the short answer is not if you do it correctly and with patience. The video is my rising 4 year old who’s only been handled properly for a month and she’s never been in the rehab or seen anything apart from fields and now the stable. This was literally her first time through.
Water treadmill exercise has many potential benefits when integrated into a training or rehabilitation programme, including an increase in range of movement of lower limbs, increased lumbar flexion, decreased impact shock. You can see how this horse is lifting its back so using its core correctly and enabling it to flex through its lower limbs.
Water Treadmill is not just for the rehabilitation of horses but also for strengthening and straightening horses and is especially good for younger horses like Carter who is a 5 year old and is on his 3rd session it’s a great low impact form of exercise which teaches them to use their bodies correctly.
Also a great way to get them exercised in this lovely winter weather!
Water Treadmill is not just for horses that are recovering from injury but it’s also great for horses coming back into work from a holiday, gaining extra strength and fitness for competition, keeping the body and brain occupied during those long winter months and strengthening the young horse.
This video is an example of the horse’s introduction session which we charge at £25 and allow an hour for so the have time to acclimatise to the environment and leave feeling ready for their first proper session
As we make the most of the last of the summer weather, we all know that winter is just around the corner now that the evenings are drawing in.
With fewer daylight hours and poor weather to contend with, it can often be a challenge to maintain your horse's fitness.
Did you know that with regular water treadmill sessions you can support your horses fitness!
We have many clients who tell us what a positive impact the use of the water treadmill has on their horses and that they see improvements in as little as 6-8 sessions.

Toad Hall Equine Rehabilitation is one of the very few centres in the country to offer a range of rehabilitation equipment.
We offer not just a water treadmill but a salt & oxygen room and a salt water spa.
Here you can see one of the many horses we have seen recently who have been reaping the benefits that the salt water spa. 💦 has to offer.
It can be used to support recovery post exercise and competition, rehabilitation for foot, tendon and ligament injuries, inflammation, soft tissue damage, arthritis, laminitis, wound healing and much more.
The cold therapy provided by the spa helps to reduce the risk of injury, but also brings rapid relief from pain, bruising, swelling and recent tissue damage.
Having the salt water element helps further reduce swelling plus can help promote the natural healing of wounds.
We have had fantastic feedback from our clients who have told us the huge improvements seen in their horses follow up scans with their vets.
Contact us today to book your session or to discuss how we can support your horse.

All the horses who come to use our water treadmill really enjoy their sessions.
This gorgeous boy particularly enjoys splashing his face 💦😀

The water treadmill improves muscle stamina and encourages horses to engage all of their muscles including their core, gluteal and back muscles.
If the horses drop their heads during their session this increase their core engagement and improves the suppleness of the muscles across the back.
Because all horses work differently, not all of them lower their heads naturally, so to support horses to do this, we use treats or likits.
As you can imagine this is very popular with all the horses.
This video is of one of our long term rehab horses, who is working really well and enjoying the #likit
We had a lovely little thoroughbred racing pony in this week to make full use of the salt water spa to help heal a tendon injury that he sustained in the field.
With the temperature of the water reaching 2 degrees and containing Epsom salts it’s really great for healing ❤️🩹

We are putting the Salt & Oxygen room to good use this weekend with the lovely Bear enjoying his sessions.
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬…
Our Salt & Oxygen room combines holistic and scientific approaches in treating equine athletes.
We nebulise medically approved Dead Sea salt solution enriched with magnesium and other minerals, which is vaporised with de-ionised air at specific rates into the atmosphere within our enclosed stable.
The process involves controlled release and inhalation of a complex mix of mineral salts from the Dead Sea, and concentrated negatively ionised oxygen through our equines respiratory system and skin cells simultaneously.
There has been a lot of research into the power of negative ions, and the compelling evidence of the health and performance benefits.
These molecules are thought to be able to neutralise free radicals, revitalise cell metabolism, enhance immune function and balance the autonomic nervous system.
