Tracking with big drako - the dog is starting to understand the principles of human tracking. Next steps for me are to make the game a little more difficult and put less food throughout the track as well as fainter foot steps.

Ebony the lovely English springer and her handler came to see me yesterday as they've had problems with walking on the lead. Ebony would pull like a steam train as soon as they left the house and throughout the whole walk. We stripped the picture down for the dog right to the beginning and added in some engagement which Ebony picked up extremely quickly. We then taught Ebony the correct position her handler would like her to walk and again she picked that up even quicker! By the end of the session there was a massive improvement from the dog as well as the way the handler was dealing with the dog, we finished the session walking a few laps with a lovely loose lead! No more pulling for Ebony. Very excited to keep working with this pair!!

Yesterday I spent the afternoon with the big lad Myla. He has a problem with human and dog reactivity and lunges at anything he sees when out on walks. We got to work with him to start changing the picture his currently seeing around the things he's reacting to. After a few reps and building some engagement with the dog and handler, we were able to build some positive association for the dog towards me and other strangers which resulted in not wanting to bark at strangers and focus on his handler instead to receive a reward! Fixing behavioural issues comes with time and patience, the more work you put into your doggo showing them the behaviours you actually want from them, the sweeter your lives will be together.

Say hello to Magnus! Hes 8 months old and has
joined me to start working on some obedience out in the big
world. Today we worked on Magnus' recall and how much he
pulls while on the lead. We played a couple engagement
games in his favourite park and he smashed every exercise
today. He was engaged with me for the whole session which
is a massive plus as he's usually off doing his own things on
walks. Building good engagement foundations is the first step
to dog training in my opinion; with good engagement
everything else becomes a lot easier!

Had the pleasure to meet up with Bailey and his owners yesterday. They've had some problems with reactivity to literally EVERYTHING in the outside world as well as being a bit bossy in the house (as frenchies do). It came down to having a bit of anxiety so getting to work we started to work on some engagement foundations which are the first steps in getting on the right road with your dog. Over time we we will be building up the dogs engagement with his handler and in that be working on his confidence. We need to start changing the negative picture our dogs are currently seeing into a positive picture where the dogs always winning!

Confidence building with your dog.

Having a confident dog is great! A confident dog is surly a happy dog right? If you’re finding that your dog isn’t as confident as you feel they should be, there’s no need to panic! There’s some simple things that can be done to increase their confidence.

First of all start off in places where they are confident - may be your garden, it may be at the local park anywhere is fine to start.

Put the dog on the lead and take out whatever their most favourite thing in the world is and begin to engage with your dog.

For example one thing that works well with my dog is a tug. I’ll place him into a down and swing the tug around a few times and build up his drive to get it. As soon as I get a sign of frustration and drive to get the tug I give a nice long reward with the tug. Repeat a few times - have fun with training!

After a few run arounds with the tug we end the session on a high leaving the dog in a temporary high drive state.

Repeat this over a period of time and your dogs confidence is sure to increase! Sessions should be short and fun around 5-20 minutes depending on the demands of your dog.

Hi guys! Welcome to DDOGHANDLER. I’m a new trainer and am very excited to begin my journey as a trainer. My experience so far with training has been great and I’m ready and charged up to begin my career and start helping as many people as I possibly can. No problem is too big or too small; no dog is too difficult to handle either. It’s all a mindset, if you’re will to put the work in to get what you want from your dog, the limits are endless!

I am more than open to any opportunities to work with any trainers. I’m looking to expand my knowledge and experience as much as I can. I want to be one of the top trainers in the UK some day. For me the work begins now.

Services that I offer are the following: Obedience, behavioural issues, puppy training, protection. Puppy training begins at 8 weeks.

Looking forward to all the people I will hopefully have the opportunity to work with.
