Why Crate Train
People worry whether putting your dog in a crate is cruel / being mean, as you can see Honey is chilling in her crate even though her door is open and the other dogs are playing outside. How is training going with missi at 12weeks
Every puppy learns at its own pace, however I thought that some people may find it interesting to see what training I teach first over others, plus see some puppy videos.
The key for the first month of having your puppy is making sure they are happy and settled at home with you and that they have a daily routine to follow.
In regards to specific commands and behaviours I have been working on with Missi at 12weeks old.
- sit
- down
- she sleeps in her cage all night with no accidents and no waking owners up in the morning.
- she is almost there with toilet training (just a few accidents on matt by door) but this is very dependant on your specific dog and how consistent you can be with toilet training.
- she settles when owners are working and sleeps curled up to the other dogs. Having the other dogs to show this behaviour helps with this, but the key is making sure she is getting enough stimulation regular throughout the day.
- she is happy to be left with the other dogs while owners have small tasks to do.
- And she went out on my first walk this week which was super exciting.
Next weeks goal:
- sit with more duration before getting a treat
- learn to share better (expecting all the treats to be hers and jumping on other dogs when they get a treat is not ok haha)

Missi is 11 weeks old
3 weeks in and over the last week we have introduced sit and down.
Missi picked up sit very quickly and is very treat driven as you can see so we started introducing down. The amount of time this will take will vary greatly depending on your puppy, but it’s important to make sure you get these two commands correct and strong #puppysit #puppydown #cockerspanielpuppy #puppyinacoat

- #cratetraining her so she is happy to sleep in there of a night and naps during day.
- Starting to teach her “No” when she bites, steals things she shouldn’t have and swapping them for something else.
