Could 121 training suit you?

Many people believe that 121 training is just for complicated behavioural work whereas on the other hand group classes are for general training. However, 121 sessions are for everyone, ranging from reactivity work to dog sports.

Having an individual 121 can have plenty of benefits…

✅Tailored exactly to your dog and your own personal goals
✅Great to supplement your training alongside a regular training class
✅The environment is flexible, we can train at the training venue, your home or out on a walk dependent on what our session focus is
✅Great for dogs that might not be ready for a class environment just yet
✅An option for families with children that may all want to attend to get involved with dog training
✅More undivided attention and plenty of chance to get any questions answered
✅Great for those that have a busy schedule so might not be able to commit to a 6 week course instead the sessions can be booked around you

If this could be of interest get in touch for more information.

“More than just a dog trainer”

A dog trainer is much more than teaching a dog to sit.

A dog trainer is a translator for two friends that speak in different tongues. Helping to communicate but more importantly to teach the art of listening. To listen to a dog and truly understand the way in which they view this world, their needs and emotions.

A dog trainer is a therapist and offers emotional support during the most difficult times. They gain trust, listen to struggles and help find solutions to rebuild relationships between human and dog. They do so with compassion and without judgement.

A dog trainer is a coach. They plan, motivate and encourage. They work hard to help teams build confidence and reach goals by sharing their passion and skill.

A dog trainer is a friend of both dog and human. Whether this friendship is life long or fleeting. Every encounter will leave an impact.

Finally, a dog trainer is human. We are emotionally invested. We smile, we laugh and we cry. However, there is nothing else that we’d rather do.

Unfortunately I’m cancelling training/walks today. 😢

I’ve held off in the hope the roads would clear but still a fair amount by our house (even though town is fine) but I don’t feel particularly comfortable driving my gigantic van along the lanes in these conditions.

Plus there is forecast more snow this afternoon so I’d rather be safe than sorry on this occasion. I still have no WiFi at home since the storm so heading for a walk to get some 4G to post this and inform today’s clients of the decision.

New intake for Hoopers Club!!

We have availability for a new bunch of dogs in hoopers club. Mondays 6pm starting in February.

Hoopers is similar to agility but lower impact for the dog and has a focus on skill and distance handling.

You do not need any prior hoopers experience to join but your dog will need to have a basic level of obedience (stay, recall etc.) and be able to work off lead around other dogs.

Somer is a lively 6 month old pup who is great fun to work with and has bags of potential.

Her humans have had a couple of 121 sessions to work on engagement, recall and loose lead walking out and about.

They’ve had Samoyeds for years but even with lots of experience of dogs or a particular breed it’s sometimes still helpful to get an outside opinion to ensure your training is as effective as it can be. ☺️

What’s your goals for 2025?

I have a long list of ideas for me and my dogs of things we want to try to achieve. However, my main goal is more human focused and to try and become more connected with my dogs when we compete.

Dog sports are a team sport and if I’m nervous or acting differently to how we do in training it’s going to throw us off. Therefore 2025 is a more positive emotion, calmness and connection from me for my dogs at competitions.

So, what’s your goal?

What a perfect final session before the Christmas break a fun Hoopers competition with our regular class.

1st place to Sarah & Celyn with a speedy clear round to take the lead with a time of 21.08 seconds.

2nd place to Alwyna and Monty who are a still new to Hoopers but are taking to it brilliantly. Just a single refusal and a respectable time of 26.41 seconds and also bagged themselves some bonus points for distance handling!

3rd place to Tony and Buddy with the fastest course time of the evening 20.21 seconds and just a single refusal too. However without any bonus points it meant they slipped to 3rd.

A great evening all round, lots of laughs, happy dogs and humans but unfortunately no photos!

So instead a slightly festive photo of Tide will have to suffice.

‼️UPDATE‼️:

We now have power again at home but are still without any means of communication. Our internet is still down and we never get phone signal in our village. Therefore I can only contact people when in town (in between client visits!).

Classes are all still on as usual as the barn has been unaffected but please be aware my response time to email/calls will be slower than usual.

If you want to book onto a group class you can do so here:
https://bookwhen.com/canisconcept

We do also have a single spot available in our weekly hoopers club (Monday evening) and a couple of spots available in our sport activity club (Wednesday evening). These are not listed on the booking site so message me if interested!

Admin day incoming!

I’ll be honest, I love dog training but despise admin and general business management. I’m just not good at balancing the two especially when it’s been a busy week like this week.

So just a little apology to you all and a promise that I will be catching up with messages tomorrow afternoon.

📸 In the meantime enjoy Tide’s slightly crazed but enthusiastic face whilst doing some heelwork 🐾

January puppy life skills course is now FULL! ❌

We have some space left on our foundation course which is for dogs 6 months plus. This could be for puppies looking to continue their training, those cheeky adolescent dogs or perhaps an adult dog that needs a refresher.

Life skills classes for January!

We’ve only got one puppy space remaining for our first puppy course of 2025.

I’m expecting the foundation course to fill pretty swiftly too.

So if your New Year’s resolution is to spend more time with your dog (which is a great choice if you ask me) 😉 then the training classes are booking up fast.

A reminder about livestock worrying!

A farmer is well within his right to take drastic action against a dog that is worrying or harming his livestock.

There are sheep currently grazing in a section of the dunes at Ynyslas. They are fenced in with clear signage so if near that area please pop your dog on a lead.

Although I would assume that I am preaching to the choir here on this page I hope!

Sheep killed by dog
There has been a dog attack on the sheep in the fenced area of the dunes at Ynyslas and one of the sheep has been killed. Please act responsibly and keep your dog on a lead whilst walking through this area. Access points to the grazed area are clearly marked indicating the presence of sheep.
The winter grazing helps to maintain the special flower rich dunes.
