Classes are on tonight!

However, if you have an anxious dog or a dog that is noise sensitive then it doesn’t hurt to skip a class if there is a chance they might be startled by fireworks. Although we are situated a bit outside of town we may still have fireworks audible near the training barn.

If you feel this might be an issue for your dog then relax at home and practice your training homework instead. ☺️

We need one more dog to be able to introduce a second yellow dog club group! 💛😁

Our original group has been a huge success but is currently full. So hoping to get another group of likeminded people and dogs together.

This is not to be used in replacement of behavioural support for reactivity and instead is used as opportunities for controlled exposure around other dogs. This is for nervous dogs that need to build confidence around new people and dogs.

Training sessions are held on a Sunday morning.

This little whirlwind is Gweno!

She can be a nervous pup in new environments and had tried puppy classes previously but found it all a bit overwhelming.

So to make sure she didn’t miss out she is having a block of puppy 121s. She’s arrived at the barn pretty timid but soon came out of her shell. 🥰

Take in that moment and celebrate every little success with your dog.

That clear round in agility.
Not reacting to the neighbours dog.
Your puppy learning a new trick.
Finally getting the hang of loose lead walking.

It’s all worth being proud of ☺️

When we work closely with our dogs, take small steps, we often forget to look back. We are so focused on our current challenges, that we don’t notice the huge progress we have already achieved.

While we want to move forwards, don’t forget to glance back every now and then to remind yourself just how great you are really doing.

Fantastic yellow dog session this morning (this is for nervous and reactive that may need more space to learn). Lots of tricks followed by some scent detection too.

I love how quickly their scent work has come along. Some real thorough searching today.

Well done 💛🐾

I’ve had a busy afternoon preparing some enrichment toys for the gang! 😁

However, something I think that isn’t talked about enough is when enrichment isn’t actually enriching for the dog. For most dogs being provided a frozen Kong is a pleasant treat. My gang love theirs filled with an assortment of different treats!

So when might it not be as enriching as we think? 🤔

Bare in mind this may not apply to every dog but something to consider!

❌ When a dog ONLY gets access to food via enrichment toys. In this case it’s not really enrichment and adding value to the dogs day and instead it becomes a necessity for living. Some dogs are okay with this but for me I don’t use the “no bowl” approach. My dogs enjoy a bowl of food for meal times (they don’t always want to work out a puzzle toy for every mouthful of food) and instead have enrichment toys as an extra bonus treat.

❌ Dogs using puzzle toys that are too complex for their abilities as this can quickly go from enriching to frustrating. Humans have a tendency to make it “difficult” so it lasts longer but this isn’t always in the dog’s best interests.

❌ Dogs with resource guarding tendencies can sometimes find long lasting enrichment toys stressful. These dogs have a fear of loosing their resource so the longer they take to eat their high value treat they often may become more concerned about another dog/person removing this. However, for some dogs this can be avoided by ensuring the dog is left alone whilst eating it.

❌ Dogs that are in pain or unwell can often be less motivated to work for a food resource so often prefer and easier option for food.

Meet Blitz, a cute but anxious adolescent!

He’s hit the stage in life where his hormones are playing havoc with his behaviour and he still very much has a puppy brain in a large adult body.

As well as this, he has big emotions and very little impulse control. He is a happy little chap but very easily spooked. In fact, he was even startled by a leaf in the session 🍂

So our very first session was getting to know Blitz and building his confidence. We did lots of fun engagement games, a few tricks and discussed how these can help and be utilised out in the “real world” and away from the training barn. The confidence building will certainly be a gradual process.

Our next session will be working Blitz around a stooge dog so we can start overcoming his reactivity.

Blitz and his humans made a great start last night laying some foundation work 😊

Canis Concept’s Nero is 8 today!

I know a lot of you have met this little character. His happy nature has meant he’s often been a stooge dog for puppies in class to learn “polite greetings”, he’s became a first friend for many reactive or nervous dogs and he’s also the first dog to start a game of chase on our client group walks!

Happy birthday little badger dog 🥰

May I ask you lovely lot a favour? 🥰

Over the last 10+ months I’ve been battling Google Small Business for my account to be reinstated. When I updated my address after moving to Wales it suspended my account and I’ve unfortunately had no luck speaking to an actual human to resolve it. Which as you can imagine is incredibly frustrating.

However, this has meant I’ve lost all my wonderful reviews people have left me over the last few years. 😔 I’m now solely reliant on Facebook reviews which I have very few of!

Therefore, I would like to ask if you’ve ever used my training or walking services would you be so kind as to leave an honest review on my Facebook business page to help out perspective clients? It would mean the world to me.

In the meantime I’m still chipping away at trying to sort my Google Business page!

Congratulations to these four little firecrackers 💥

Taran, Pocket, Maya and Jinx you’ve probably been the liveliest bunch of puppies I’ve had in a while but you’ve also been so much fun. I’ve loved watching you learn and grow in confidence.

I hope to see you and your humans for some more training soon! 🐾

📸 Here are some photos from the puppy obstacle course this evening. A nice bit of fun to end the course.

Yesterday’s reactive dog 121s.

Both Mister and Siani are at the start of their training journey so we are building confidence bit by bit.

It’s important that they can learn what’s expected of them in a controlled environment first of all. Once they can do this we start to reduce the distance and build on this in busier environments! 😁
