One of our beautiful Egyptian Fruit Bats with a gorgeous starry night sky in the background. Our Fruit Bats have the luxury of an open area to roost and explore and, unlike most zoo's, are not confined in a cage. We currently have 7 in our colony with more expected to be added soon!

Rowan, the zoo's resident stag, posing for this beautiful photo. Red deer (males are called stags) can grow to a height of 4ft 5, ours is 4ft 2 so is a great specimen!

Meet Itzcali and Neneti, our resident jaguars who are at our sister zoo, the Woodside Park Zoo*

The Panthera Onca is a near threatened species with around 64,000 cats left in the wild. They love swampy forest areas and our two jaguars are homed in a habitat that is designed like an old Aztec ruins complete with pool and shelter.

* This zoo is a zoo that has no prebuilt structures, its all our own custom builds unlike the main zoo which has stuff made by other people.

Meet Ulagan and Khongordzol, our pair of Snow Leopards (panthera uncia). These beautiful white and grey leopards are native to the mountains of Nepal, Tibet, Northern India, Siberia, Pakistan, Bhutan and Mongolia.

They have very thick fur and are very well insulated which help them withstand sub-zero temperatures as low as -25c. In our zoo their habitat has a temperature of -20c so they are very comfortable.

They are sadly endangered, with around 4000-9000 left in the wild but there are many efforts being made to create protected areas as well as assisting farmers in leopard proofing their land to protect the livestock that snow leopards prey upon.

Construction on our new King Penguin hall is nearing completion, just some external work needing doing but the first 8 penguins are now settling in their new home and seem very happy. There will be daily talks about the penguins, and you may even get to see them fed! The King Penguin Hall is part of the zoo's conservation efforts for this majestic, yet sadly endangered, species of penguin.

A day late but happy Chinese New Year and this year is the year of the Tiger, so what better way to celebrate this than a showcase of our pair of Bengal Tigers, Advaith and Ishanvi.

The Bengal Tiger is native to Asia, and can be found everywhere from India and Bangladesh all the way through to Western China. With 2,500 estimated to be left in the wild they are classed as endangered, with their numbers continuing to fall. Like most creatures, their main threat is poaching, with their fur and body parts in high demand, the latter for traditional medicines.

There is a big breeding program in India, called "Project Tiger", where huge reserves are protected where the tiger populations are high. This effort did help for a little bit, increasing the tiger population temporarily, but unfortunately their numbers are back in decline.

Frog Hall is now open to the public! Featuring 5 beautiful frogs from around the world all in their own ideal habitats. We have the American Bullfrog, Lehmann's Poison Frog, Golden Poison Frog, Red Eyed Tree Frog and the huge Goliath Frog, the largest frog species on the planet! Jumpers and overcoats are not recommended in this hall, as the temperature is kept at a constant 27 degrees and humidity is kept high for the comfort of our animals.

Meet Bao, one of two Chinese Pangolins in our zoo along with her mate Zihao. She's just having a wander around her new home here getting used to the smells and sounds she's now exposed to.

The Chinese pangolin is a critically endangered insectivorous species native to Eastern Asia. They are a small slow secretive animal with their most noticeable feature their layered armour-like keratinous scales.

Their main threat is illegal hunting and trafficking, they are highly desired species in traditional medication and are heavily hunted for their scales, despite their being no evidence that their scales have any medicinal properties.

There are many laws and efforts to reduce pangolin poaching, but unfortunately until the demand for traditional remedies decrease the problem will remain and these beautiful animals will continue to decline.
