Just loading up my trolley to help a local dog compound that had run out of food. More cans, treats & balls to load up yet! It's disgraceful that the government legally require strays & lost dogs to be taken to compounds and then provides funding for food & care to keep them alive for just 7 days! If anyone ever wants to help .. just ring up a rescue or compound & ask. Your kind donation may fill a hungry tummy or support the provision of veterinary care.

Beautiful Milo has been at our local RSPCA (England & Wales) Leeds and Wakefield since October. 😢 He’s a very friendly boy who’s quite a chatterbox, he loves to snuggle on your knee and follow you around to see what you’re doing. He’s still only 6 years old and will make someone a wonderful companion. ❤️

After testing he has been found to be allergic to grass and weeds, so is likely to need lifetime medication. The RSPCA will continue to provide support for Milo after his adoption.

Could you be the one to offer Milo the home he’s longing to find? Even if you re not able to adopt at the moment - please share this post so he can reach as many people as possible!

🐾 Find out more about Milo and see more photos here: https://www.rspcaleedsandwakefield.org.uk/cats/milo/

🐾 Application forms can be found on RSPCA website: https://www.rspcaleedsandwakefield.org.uk/adopt-a-cat-questionnaire/

Thank you. 🤞🏻🐾

Brian rescued our beautiful Baxter from a compound and gave us the opportunity to rehome such a loving boy. So Whitehall - and Brian will always have a special place in our hearts. ❤️ We were very upset to hear of Brian’s terminal diagnosis and are inspired by his unwavering dedication to helping dogs when they need it most. If you can offer any of the dogs featured in this video a loving home - please visit their website and contact them directly 🐶🤞🏻 https://fb.watch/bGM1VB14EO/

So sorry to hear about Winnie 🌈 and all the dogs and their families who have suffered because of unregulated breeding. Hopefully by raising awareness this will come to an end - and animal welfare will always come before financial gain. 🐾

🌈🐕 This is beautiful Winnie🐕💞
Winnie was advertised through Gumtree and Pets4homes as a healthy 8 week old Jackawawa- this raised concerns with the vet when Winnie seemed ill immediately, the vet did not believe Winnie was 8 weeks old. Unfortunately Winnie passed away within days.
Winnies owner is desperate to find other siblings to find out if they are also ill.
The same seller has advertised: Yorkipoo, toy Poodles and Chorki. These were advertised around the beginning of December to mid December.
If you think you bought any of these from the Heckmondwike area around December please contact us.

Reiki helps Miffy to feel safe and secure for the first time since moving from the Middle East to the UK...

What was first notable about Miffy was that she could be heard before she was seen. She hadn’t had the best start in life. After a number of years in a rescue centre in the Middle East, she was
brought over here and homed in the UK, then transferred to a cattery but neither of the latter two worked out. So that’s when she came into Yorkshire Cat Rescue.

Her loud attention-seeking Miaows attracted anyone near her pen, or even in the building. We learned that her miaowing continued spasmodically when she had human company and certainly when anyone with her moved in readiness to leave her pen. Poor, adorable Miffy. She must have experienced fearful times wondering ‘what next’. She wanted to feel safe, secure, loved and cared for.

We were asked to offer her some Reiki and what happened surprised us all. In the first session she miaowed for a little while and wandered around, not seeking hands-on fussing but appreciating the company.

The Reiki and accompanying music we played very quietly seemed to calm her but miaows clearly indicated her disapproval of being left alone after half an hour. In the second session Miffy miaowed just a few times and brushed against my leg. After receiving the head fussing she requested, she climbed into her soft grey bed on the floor. Feeling safe and content . she made herself comfy and cosy. The Reiki and music provided much contentment and before long she closed her eyes. Expectations to quietly slip away were met with a ‘don’t go’ Miaow.

However, offering Reiki for a few minutes outside her pen resulted in the delightful sounds of a faint but ever so sweet snoring. There was nothing wrong with Miffy’s memory! As soon as her pen
was entered the following week and the music was switched on she knew it was Reiki time. Miffy went straight to her bed and rested her head, facing outwards, waiting for her Reiki to . commence. Relaxing energy flowed and she drifted into a nice doze with no miaowing.

The staff commented on never seeing her like this normally. She felt more settled and content. Within days this wonderful cat was happily.

Being very sensitive to
energy, many animals
naturally seem to
understand that Reiki
will be kind and gentle
and offer them some
soothing relaxation to
benefit them in times
of stress or distress. We're so thankful that Reiki could support Yorkshire Cat Rescue's team and help Miffy to feel settled.

Coming up to Christmas, we thought you might like to know that if you add your pet’s name to Christmas cards you are not alone. Most pet owners see their pet as one of the family and so it feels perfectly natural to do so. In fact as many as 70% of people are believed to sign their pet's name on greeting cards.

With the bad weather we've had recently - we've all been keeping warm in our cosy coats and hats. Did you know...a cat’s fur doesn’t insulate well when it is wet - this also applies to dogs with thin coats as it is the dog’s undercoat that acts as an insulator. It keeps the dog warm in cold, wet weather and cool in warm, humid weather. This explains why many cats and dogs with short haired/ thin coats don’t like going out in the rain, it is harder for them to stay warm. Dogs with short haired coats also therefore especially benefit from a coat in the winter, as do senior dogs, puppies and dogs with medical conditions.

It is vitally important that Animal Reiki training educates and applies key learnings about 'Understanding Animals' for safety, earning trust and optimum outcomes, as expressed in Sue's article published by ReikiRays this weekend. Sadly it is not included in many training courses. So, we're leading with our 1 day workshop on this topic that any Reiki Practitioner or student can attend as well as including it in our own Animal Reiki training. See our website for details www.friendsofbaxter.org.uk/therapy-training

Animal Reiki is not simply offering Reiki to animals. When offering Reiki to animals it is essential to respect them and their differences to humans.

It’s so upsetting that testing on animals still takes place. As animal lovers we hope that if we all come together to support animals’ freedom and stop them being held in laboratories for experimentation - their suffering may end soon. Please sign the petition if you’re able to. Thank you 🙏 https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/597559

Testing on dogs is totally unacceptable. We are a nation of dog lovers, force our government to take notice, enforce a ban & be a compassionate example to the rest of the world. We will not stand by & nothing while puppies are bred in cold, dark conditions & sent to laboratories at just 16 weeks.

Sue supports Squeaky through Separation anxiety using Reiki...Here’s her story. “Our cat Squeaky who is 10 years old came to us 7 years ago from a rescue centre with separation anxiety as a result of her earlier life experiences. Consequently, we can never leave her for more than one week a year in a cattery whilst we have some holiday because she gets so distressed.

Although she has had excellent care at the same cattery, each year she is very anxious during her stay and is terribly ill in the car on the journey home & often takes a day or two to settle back home into her usual routines.

This year we asked Sue of Friends of Baxter Animal Care to send her some distance Reiki to help Squeaky’s anxiety whilst we were away and with the car journeys to and from the cattery.

Treatments were sent to Squeaky before our departure on the morning we went away and during our holiday.

Squeaky was less distressed than usual going to the Cattery and upon collecting her we were delighted to see how relaxed & calm she was, compared to the stressed little moggie we normally find. In addition, on the car journey home she lay down calmly in her carrier seldom offering even a cry of complaint. Once home she skipped out of the carrier & went off to check her territory with her tail held high as though nothing had ever happened. We are used to her being sick on the way home and in an anxious state for 24 hours until she settles again. The success of the distant Reiki not only meant Squeaky’s experience during her separation from us was far less stressful but her journey home was far more comfortable too.
"Both Squeaky (& us!) will certainly agree to booking some Reiki with Sue again when we next have to leave her due to the positive effect it had….thank you Sue."

Thank you to Squeaky's owner, Alan for sharing her story and hopefully helping us to support other animals in need of extra support.

What a fabulous afternoon with one of my Animal Reiki students sharing Reiki with lots of donkeys and a few dartmoor ponies at the wonderful Wonkey donkey visitors centre. Come rain or shine, hot or cold, indoor or out, they love their Reiki and responded as soon as we approached. Some came out to see us as soon as it was "their turn" but when it was raining we said "hello and suggested they go inside to be warmer & stay dry" and instantly they did, looking out from just inside their stables....bless!
They are all so adorable 💕

**Urgent Appeal for Hedgehog Fosterers**

If anyone lives locally to Methley (Leeds / Wakefield) and may be able to be a foster carer for a hedgehog needing help this winter - please contact the rescue directly. They will provide a starter kit with everything you need. We know what a difference love and care made to Dave the hedgehog and there’ll be many more this winter who need a helping hand. 🦔

Can you help our birds this winter? We know everyone tries to do their bit and did you know...the biggest challenge for wild birds as the temperatures drop is to find enough high-energy food to eat regularly to both build up fat supplies to store in the body but also to maintain this fat source to be burned up to keep them warm in the cold months.
How can you help? Providing a feeding station in your garden could be a life saver with a supply of daily fresh water (that has not iced over) to both drink and bathe in early morning or later afternoon BUT if you put food out, birds will depend on it so it is extremely important to do it all through the winter or they may go hungry.

Buy commercial fat balls or put out chopped up: UNSALTED fat from meat (or larger pieces fastened down to avoid big birds form talking the lot), pastry (cooked or raw), cheese (not very strong/ blue), dried fruit even some broken pieces of biscuit or stale cake with a reasonable fat content. Some birds also like chopped fruit e.g. apple/ pears. NB. Only put out the amount that will be eaten daily by the birds or rats may be attracted. Thank you for helping our beautiful birds this winter.

Bringing a new animal into your heart and home can be a joyous time, especially at Christmas. If you are thinking about taking on a family cat, dog or other pet, before considering spending vast amounts on buying a particular breed do consider adopting from a rescue centre and giving an animal that didn’t have the best start in life the 2nd (great) chance that they so deserve.

If your heart is set on a kitten or puppy, whether buying or adopting, there are 2 vital aspects you need to check:
(i) kittens and puppies are not removed from their mother before eight weeks of age - this is important for their well-being and development.
(ii) you always see the kitten/ puppy with their mother.
Government guidance is also available to support you through the process of finding your new family member.

Such a positive step today to hear that animal thieves could now face up to 5 years in prison. 🐶☀️

Hopefully this will act as a deterrent - and save some families and their pets from the worry and devastation losing a loved pet can cause.

Under government plans, people who steal a canine companion could face up to five years in jail if convicted of dog abduction, under a proposed new criminal offence.

Treats and mealtimes can be great ways to bond with your dog. Food can also be an ideal motivator and method of training but did you know...obesity is a major health problem in dogs. It is really important to balance calories in and exercise (calories out) as this can impact on mobility, wellbeing, other health conditions and ultimately can affect how long a dog lives. Likewise underweight can cause health issues too.

How to check if you dog is overweight...

If you dog is under or overweight seek expert dietary advice, such as from a vet. Reiki may also be able to help support weight loss by promoting wellbeing and helping to reduce anxiety. Please get in touch to find out more. Photo Credit to PDSA.
