Huz Hognose
My first ever Reptile was 'Stanley Pendragon' the Bearded Dragon some 7/8 years ago! He's still going strong!
The lady in the back is a rescue I saved from some atrocious conditions. She's got a long way to go but on the right track!
So as another year comes to an end and breeders/keepers begin to dial down the temps and get their hognose ready for brumation I thought I would write a few words and reflect.
To start on a postive note and because I am eager to show you all, I want to share some of the beauties I have got recently from Hamm this year. Massive shout out to Reptile Courier.EU/Sander Bouwman and Jeff for getting them to me safe and sound and to all the breeders on an excellent job on producing them. I have only listed a few of the hareem I recently bought. I have purposelly kept a few secret projects I am working on to myself. The P-Line is something else and can't wait to see what it will do down the line.
Now to the rambling...this may have been echoed in post by various other breeders etc, but this is my take on it all.
Ultimately anyone and everyone who breeds animals with the aim to sell them (or surplus animals) is affected by supply and demand. Each market has its own niches and demand requirements- as this increases so do potential sales. Theoretically when there is a surplus in stock- the price reduces and vice versa. For the first time this year I have seen this within the hognose market with certain morphs being hit hard, for example; Albinos, Condas and even Snows etc- some albinos even fetching £45/50!
Sometimes buyers/sellers fail to recognise that quality is always better than quantity. It takes time, effort and a love for what you do to produce high quality offspring. When I first started out, I saw some of the top breeders in the UK with amazing animals and I thought to myself, that one day I will have something just as amazing, if not better and with that in mind bought my first albino and a Conda het albino from Stuart Raby, which i still own to date and haven't looked back since. Yes the dip in the market with people selling hogs for next to nothing is frustrating, but we need to have belief in the animals we produce and not let the market control the price,
