We do not have a shelter but are aligned to Cats Protection's Wrexham Adoption Centre. We have volunteer fosterers caring for the cats - either in an outdoor heated pen or in a spare room. We also have volunteers undertaking Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) in the local community.

We welcomed not 1, not 2, nope not even 3 - a whooping 5 new additions to our maternity unit recently, with the arrival of Blodyn's kittens.

As you all probably remember Blodyn is one of our 7 month old Queens in care here at Cats Protection Wrexham Adoption Centre. Both her and Shiraz have safely delivered their kittens and are receiving all the right nutrients they need to keep both themselves and their kittens healthy and strong.

A £10 donation will contribute towards buying kitten food for a busy lactating Queen like Blodyn and Shiraz, to make a donation please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Wrexham-Queen-Appeal

Thank you to everyone who has sent in such generous donations and lovely messages - we really do appreciate the warm wishes and kind support ❤️

Time really does fly when you have 3 little ones running circles around you! 🐈🐈🐈

We might be a little bias but Shiraz and her 3 kittens make the cutest little family 😍

Kittens are delightful little bundles of curiosity. They're also fragile creatures that rely on their mothers for intense care during their first few weeks.

These beautiful kittens feed from their Queen until they are three to four weeks old and weaning begins at three to four weeks of age - this is when the fun begins!

A £10 donation will contribute towards buying kitten food for a hungry little family like Shiraz and her kittens, to make a donation please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Wrexham-Queen-Appeal

Unfortunately, Shiraz isn’t the only 7 month old Queen in care here at Cats Protection Wrexham Adoption Centre. We recently admitted the beautiful Blodyn, who just like Shiraz found herself homeless carrying a heavy load!

This highlights the importance of kitten neutering, which is proven to be safe and effective and Cats Protection recommends that your cat is neutered at four months of age or younger, although cats can be neutered at any age.

Cats are effective breeders and female cats can get pregnant from a very young age so making sure your kitten is neutered or spayed is particularly important. Of course, as well as preventing unwanted kittens, neutering your cat has plenty of health benefits too.

Cats are usually pregnant for 63 days, or around nine weeks. Rest assured Blodyn has all her needs met whilst we await the arrival of her kittens. She is currently set up in our maternity unit, being fed lots of extra nutrients with kitten food.

You can help support Blodyn whilst she prepares for her kitten(s,) by making a donation to our Cat Queen Appeal. To make a donation please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wrexham-queen-appeal

The Queen's platinum jubilee celebrations might be all over with but our very own Queen Shiraz is still busy looking after her 3 kittens. ❤️

Newborn kittens will get all of their nutrition from their mother, they need to feed every two to three hours and after feeding they will sleep between feeds. 😻

Shiraz needs lots of the right nutrients to keep her and her kittens healthy and strong. As she’s supporting her kittens while they are nursing, she’ll need a food that’s higher in calories, fat, protein and is easy to digest.

Shiraz is being fed a good quality kitten food while she is nursing. A donation, even just as small as £5 will help feed a nursing Queen like Shiraz. To make a donation please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wrexham-queen-appeal

Thank you for the continued support!

Remember our pregnant Queen Shiraz? Well she now has 3 extra mouths to feed! 😋

Pregnant and lactating cats eat up to 25% more food before and after giving birth to keep them and their kittens safe and well!

Shiraz needed plenty of food after finding herself homeless, so we gave her a balanced diet full of nutrition and made sure her meals were fit for royalty! 🥰

Will you help us care for Shiraz and her kittens? By supporting the care she will need over the coming months during her time in our care! A small amount can go a long way to ensure we are able to provide Shiraz and other queens just like her all that they need! ❤️

A £5 donation can help feed a hungry Queen like Shiraz whilst she nurses her kittens, you can support by making a donation here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/wrexham-queen-appeal

Thank you for your support! 😻

*Please note that Shiraz and her kittens are not ready to be rehomed and we are not currently taking on any homing requests at this moment in time for Shiraz or her kittens. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. For cats and kittens looking for a new home please check out the website.

Pregnant queen and at only 7 month old still just a kitten herself, Shiraz found herself homeless carrying a heavy load.😿🤰

She needed somewhere safe and warm to give birth, so we acted swiftly and she arrived in care at Wrexham adoption centre. 😻

This means lots of soft bedding and towels to make the perfect queen-sized bed for her to rest and deliver her new arrivals! 🛏❤️

You can help support Shiraz with the care she will need over the next few months by donating to our appeal. Just £20 buys soft, washable bedding to keep her and her kittens safe, cosy and warm!

This weekend many will be celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee but sadly for many unwanted and lost pregnant queens, it will be a survival struggle for them and their kittens. 😿

One such cat is the beautiful Shiraz, who at only 7 months old herself, found herself homeless and very heavily pregnant. With no one to care for her, Cats Protection swiftly took action and she was admitted into the adoption centre at Wrexham. 😻

Shiraz is one of the fortunate ones, she will raise her kittens in the safety of our centre, but we need your help and support to enable us to keep on helping more cats just like Shiraz.

Donating to our Summer Cat Queen Appeal, will allow us to continue helping queens like Shiraz, to give them the extra care they need to give birth safely and to be looked after, along with their kittens before we find them their new forever loving homes. 😺

17/12/2021

Mischief was trembling with a fever when she arrived with our friends at the Lichfield & Tamworth Branch. After a boom in online pet selling, local volunteer Sue took the call she’d been dreading:
“A family who’d bought a female kitten from a local website wanted to promptly give them up for rehoming,” said Sue. “They had been told that the kitten was 10 weeks old, but when we collected her it was clear that she was much younger and was trembling in my hands.

At four weeks of age, Mischief was much too young to be separated from her mother and hadn’t been weaned. The seller had handed her over with a tin of adult cat food and a packet of biscuits; products that if fed to her would have caused her to choke.
We fear there are many more underage kittens being sold online by unscrupulous vendors, who are impatient to make a quick profit. These kittens can go on to have serious, life-threatening illnesses or be so poorly socialised that they’re not suitable as pets. Kittens like Mischief are handed over into Cats Protection care too often, luckily we are here to help but abandoned - they are left to fend for themselves.

It took Sue two months of round-the-clock care to nurse Mischief back to health, care that is only possible for mis-sold kittens all across North Wales with your help.

This Christmas time please consider donating, if you can, to help us save the lives of kittens like Mischief: www.cats.org.uk/eight-weeks/donate

Every kitten should be able to spend their first eight weeks of life in the care of their mother. When a kitten is taken from their mother too young, not only does this break the most precious bond, it can have dire consequences for their behaviour, health and survival.

When looking for a kitten online, it’s not always easy to spot if they’re too young to leave their mum. Our quiz will help you learn what to look out for: www.cats.org.uk/eight-weeks/quiz
