Are you overwhelmed by the different advice you see or receive about how to train your dog or puppy on social media. the internet or TV?
Do you wonder how the results appear to happen so quickly?
Have you got frustrated if you have tried to follow the advice or training video and found that it doesn't work or happen as quickly as it was promised or it seemed?
You are not alone because many of these "quick fixes" do not take into account that
Every dog has different:
🔴 Natural instincts , motivations & what they find rewarding
🔴 Emotional experience & background
🔴 Personality
🔴 Reasons for why they want to do something or not
Each human/dog partnership has a different
🟠 Personal history
🟠 Learning history
🟠 Relationship
Therefore if these are not taken into account when learning a new skill or behaviour the results may not happen as quickly or be a long lasting as you had hoped.
This may cause you and your dog frustration & future communication issues.
I have learnt over the years that this doesn't just apply to dogs but all beings in a learning situations. I too get overwhelmed by "quick fixes" whether it be weight loss, fitness, relationships or personal development.
So all of my programmes consider the above for the longevity of the partnership dog not just getting the end result for an individual skill or behaviour.
If you are interested in learning with your dog in this way, understanding why they do or don't do things & or would like to build a stronger relationship with them I would love to speak with you.

Cleo and Mo searching
I spent at least 20 mins watching my dogs searching at my field this afternoon.
Were they enjoying themselves?
Hell yes! they hardly lifted their noses off the ground and their tails wagged constantly during the whole time.
Was I having the most exciting walk we have had together?
No, but that doesn't matter as it was their time and as I spent the day studying and doing admin so watching my dogs enjoying doing what they are bred for ended my day perfectly.
This reminded me some of the reasons why I love my spaniels so much
* Watching them work covering the ground so perfectly reminds me of their heritage even though neither have be taught to hunt.
* Even though they are so busy they never forget I am their and check in regularly.
* I like their independence and ability to have fun on their own.
* They will do this when out but enjoy nothing more than a cuddle on the sofa all evening.
* If they do find any "treasure" they are so pleased and bring it to me. Morris did just that today when he found a tennis ball that I have no idea where it came from to show me (we don't play ball at the field)
Thank you Mo and Cleo for making my day.
Today the lovely Storm a 5 month old Labrador completed her 6 week Puppy Programme with a walk in a local park which is used by local dog walkers & was busy today.
Most of the session was "off lead" (the long line was for her safety and confidence).
We covered many of the things we have covered during the programme including:
Communication between her and her family such as "checking in" & responding.
Focus when there were distractions (and there were many).
Recall which was amazing.
Polite greeting to people & other dogs.
Appropriate interaction with other dogs including a lovely 14 week old Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy.
The video is when she was investigating a cricket training area when there were lots of dogs in the distance & passing us. When she had finished she disengaged and checked in with her family and did a lovely recall.
I can honestly say she was 100% today and that is wholly down to the work her family has put in with her after taking on board everything they have listened to during the sessions.
Learning with you dog or puppy is "team work" & when the teams work it is lovely to see.

Allsorts cover Waterlooville and surrounding areas.
Today we had a lovely Loose Lead Walking Workshop with 6 lovely young or recently rehomed dogs.
In 90 minutes the dogs were able to focus and walk without pulling or being overly distracted by the other dogs so a big well done to teams Arlo, Bonnie, Freyja, Max, Lessie & Sidney.
It is not the finished product but hopefully the handlers have come away with some skills to turn walking their dogs on the lead.
The workshop covered:
* The difference of taking your dog on a walk on the lead or loose lead walking with your dog as an activity.
* Preparing yourself and your dog for an enjoyable walk.
* Practising the skills you will both need.
* How to encourage focus from your dog.
* Why walking with your dog is an activity you can do together.
and much more.
If you would like to attend the next loose lead workshop on 11th December 9.00 - 10.30am complete the form below and I will send you full details.

I am excited that tomorrow I will be running my first Focus & Confidence workshop.
The workshop is for dogs of all ages and does what it says on the tin.
It is to help the dog focus on their handler in different situations which will build the handlers confidence and will ultimately improve their relationship.
The workshop will include exercises that:
* Help with disengagement from stimuli and distractions human, animal & environmental
* Set the dog's mindset prior to the walk.
* Rebuilding the handler dog communication during a walk if the dog becomes over aroused for any reason.
Plus suggestions for breed specific environmental reinforcers.
