My name is Ellie Haines, I’m a fully qualified, accredited & insured Dog Behaviour Specialist. Over the last 15 years I have worked with a wide variety of different behaviour and training struggles, however, I found that my true specialty lies in working with the following behaviours:

- Relationship Struggles In MultiDog Households
- Dog-Dog & Dog-Human Fear, Frustration and Aggression
- Socialis

ing Difficulties
- Resource Guarding

Therefore, I have created Behaviour Support Programs to help you reach your goals and to create a much calmer and more relaxed lifestyle with your dog(s). All of the methods that I use in my Behaviour Support Programs are kind, fair, and effective, they are all force-free, up to date, and science-based. I encourage both you and your dog to express how you feel, nothing is hidden, judged, or suppressed. The sole reason for creating my Behaviour Support Programs is to improve your dog’s quality of life. Their happiness, health, and well-being will always come first. I work closely with local vets to ensure a holistic approach to working together. I cover areas in and around the SS6 postcode including Basildon, Battlesbridge, Benfleet, Danbury, Daws Heath, Hadleigh, Hockley, Leigh-on-sea, Pitsea, Rawreth, Rayleigh, Rochford, Southend-on-sea, Thundersley, and Wickford. My three tips for your dog this Halloween
🎃 Tip No1. Don’t take your dog to the front door with you, your dog isn’t expecting to see people dressed up wearing masks - these can be terrifying for dogs to suddenly see - Use a baby gate or a shut door to keep your dog safe.

🎃 Tip No2. Ensure your treats for your little trick-or-treaters are kept high out of reach of your dog. Chocolate contains theobromine and sweets can contain xylitol - both of which are poisonous to dogs.

🎃 Tip No3. If your dog is terrified of fireworks, watch my reel Stop The Firework Fear! And if your dog really struggles. get in touch with your vet about sedative options.

💥💥 Firework desensitisation starts in March for your dog to be comfortable with them by October/November, this is your notice to set a reminder for next year! 💥💥

Here are my tips to help you through this season now:

✅ Walk in the daylight, no later than 3pm.
✅ Make sure your walk includes lots of exploring and sniffing.
✅ Enrichment & training activities in the daytime.
✅ Dinner at 4.30pm, then their last toilet break. Avoid further toilet breaks where possible.
✅ For emergency toilet breaks, go outside with them, leave back door wide open.
✅ Blinds & curtains shut after their last toilet break, put your lights on.
✅ Save your washing, tumble drying, dishwasher and hoovering for the evening.
✅ Put action films on the TV.
✅ Keep your hand firmly still instead of continuous stroking.
✅ Allow your dog to lay in your clothing and in areas that smell strongly of you e.g. bedroom.

💥💥 NEW YEARS EVE IS DIFFERENT 💥💥

✅ Go out in the car at 11.30pm
✅ Use a soft crate, covered with a blanket.
✅ Provide a long lasting chew or filled kong that your dog enjoys.
✅ Drive away from built up areas - if you can.
✅ Play rock music on low in the car.

🤯 If your dog really struggles, speak with you vet about sedatives to help them through this frightening time.

What does the term self-control mean to you? No answer is wrong!

A little video update about Izzy & Chloe, my Tuesday girls!

🐶 Intentional habituation instead of training or desensitising can often be incredibly beneficial.

🐾 Habituation in this example means regular, gentle exposure, over time at a distance that they are comfortable with.

My biggest regret as a dog trainer (and dog owner!) is that I didn’t take more videos of my dogs enjoying their life, doing what they do best, and us loving life together.

🐶 I’ve had many dogs, mainly rescue dogs who come to me at various ages with a whole host of behaviour problems and very minimal training - like Bosun! He was 5 years old when he arrived, and boy was he a royal pain and very creative in his own self-employed way!

🐶 Getting videos of everything, the good times and the struggles is what I should have done. To see how far we’d come together, and to see him grow in understanding new ways of life. I would have loved to watch it now and to use it to illustrate working through behaviour struggles for clients.

🐶 Enjoy your dog and take videos!!!

💥Dogs who jump all over people are telling you three things💥:

✅They need unknown humans to keep their hands to themselves.

✅ They need the choice of more space when they meet people.

✅ They need to see and mingle with more people on a daily basis.

All three of these things can be combined in the RIGHT way to have a dog who can meet people off the lead without jumping at them within less than 48 hours.

💥What makes jumping up WORSE and much more likely to happen: 💥

✅ Keeping your dog on a short lead next to you.

✅ Avoiding people and passing fewer people to prevent the jumping up.

✅Asking your dog to sit before they have a fuss.

💥What you also might not know: 💥

✅ Jumping all over people in social situations is more likely to be driven by anxiety than excitement. Jumping up at you looks like the same behaviour, but it is not the same underlying driving emotion.

✅ Your dog likely has other behaviour struggles, e.g., separation anxiety, OCD, excessive barking, reactivity, sound sensitivity, resource guarding, etc. - which is your dog’s real problem. The excessive jumping up is just communication that they are struggling and need help.

✅ It’s not a training issue.

This is so very true. Just like humans, not all dogs are super sociable. I heard a great phrase years ago to describe dog sociability : "Not all dogs are clubbers, some are librarians."

I'm really rubbish at remembering to talk about certain aspects of my business, so here goes!!

I not only work with clients who own dogs with behaviour struggles, but I also work with clients who are dog trainers, behaviourists, groomers, walkers, and pet sitters who struggle with their clients' behaviour.

We have either regular or ad-hoc "Pro to Pro" Zoom calls to discuss the behaviour that is happening and to put a plan in place to change it.

These calls are completely confidential. they can be such a mental battle as a professional when you hit a brick wall with a client and don't know what to advise or do for the best. This is where I come in 😀 .

If you are a professional and you have a new or ongoing struggle that you need a light to shine in the right direction, book a "Pro to Pro" Zoom call with me today.

I look forward to working with you!
