🌞 Keep Your Dogs Safe in the Heat! 🌞

With temperatures expected to reach 31°C on Monday, it’s essential to take extra precautions to keep our dogs cool and comfortable. Hot weather can be dangerous for them, leading to heatstroke, dehydration, and burned paw pads.

Here are a few tips to help your dog stay safe:

Walk early or late: The pavement can get extremely hot during the day, so try to walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.

Provide plenty of water: Make sure your dog has access to fresh, cool water at all times.

Seek shade: If your dog is spending time outside, ensure there’s a shaded area where they can escape the sun.

Never leave them in a car: Even with the windows open, cars can heat up quickly, becoming life-threatening in just minutes.

Work is scheduled to start 22nd July to Dec 2024.

Works to replace the bridge along A1088 Bridge Farm Bridge, Stowlangtoft are programmed to commence on Monday 22 July 2024 and will continue until Friday 20 December 2024. During this time, the road will be closed to ensure the safety of highway users and our operatives.

NEW YEAR FIREWORKS
Here are some steps you can take to help your sensitive dog feel more comfortable and safe when fireworks are going off:

1. STAY WITH YOUR DOG
for the whole night. Exercise before dark. Get all the toileting done before fireworks start - for both of you! Then you can be present and support each other.

2. NEUTRALISE THE ENVIRONMENT
Leave your outside lights on to lessen the contrast between darkness and firework flashes, close all the windows, curtains and blinds, and then point a fan at the window (it seems to be more effective than pointing it into the room).

3. GET COSY
Bring ALL your duvets into the room that you and your dog will be in. Duvets are brilliant at absorbing sound and stopping the echo, and they feel pretty nice to snuggle up in too.

4. RELAX
Play relaxing sounds - maybe pink or brown noise, maybe music. Reggae is a popular choice for many dogs, and drumming can help because it normalises banging. Perhaps try African or taiko drumming. Find something that relaxes both you and your dog.

5. SIGH IT OUT
Take a big breath in, then sn**ch an extra breath, and then sigh it out. This is the fastest way to reset the central nervous systems of both you and your dog. Check out day 15 of The Shouty-Barky Advent Calendar for details (link in the comments)

🐾 Today we're celebrating something special – National Border Collie Day! 🎉

These pups are not just smart; they're like the Einstein's of the canine world. They often get a bad rep, especially when it comes to kids. Here at , we believe every breed can be a perfect family member with a bit of guidance and a lot of love. It's all about understanding their needs. Like with grooming – it can be tricky, but with gentle desensitisation, they can learn to love it. And the herding instinct, like chasing cars? That too can be managed with some patient and consistent training.

Just look at our very own Sandy. She transformed from a jittery, car-chasing pup to a calm and loyal companion to her 5 year old human. On this , let's give a big cheer for these incredible dogs, and remember that with love, patience, and a bit of effort, every pup can become the most wonderful lifelong buddies! 🥰🐕‍🦺
