After much thought, I have sadly decided I will no longer be offering dog training services. I would like to thank everyone for their support over the years. Enjoy your dogs xx

AMERICAN BULLY XL OWNERS INSURANCE/NEUTERING PLEASE READ THIS POST

INSURANCE
It has come to our attention that owners of American Bully XL are trying to find insurers for their dogs in order to comply with the terms of the upcoming inclusion of the type on the list of prohibited breeds. It seems many are under the understanding that
this is health and liability insurance, However for the purposes of Section 1 dogs it is PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE which is a requirement in order to comply. Dogs Trust have an excellent membership scheme that we would recommend owners of all breeds to be part of in any event, it costs 25 pounds per year to become a member and the owner is covered by 3rd party liability insurance as a member benefit which meets the standard required to register the four breeds currently covered by the legislation. This is for ALL dogs owned by that member regardless of breed up to a limit so if you have more than one prohibited type to be registered to you then only one membership is required. To owners of a dog already registered as one of the four prohibited types and who are already dogs trust members and also own an American Bully XL your membership should already cover you. If you already have Dogs Trust membership, or once you join then you do not need to have a copy of your policy, you are not taking out insurance you are becoming a member and the insurance is a benefit of that membership. Once the government opens registration email Dogs Trust with your dogs microchip number and ask them to confirm to you by return email that you are insured and that the dog concerned identified by its microchip number is covered by your liabilty cover as a member then forward this to DEFRA along with your registration application and proof of neutering. The link to become a member is in the comments below

NEUTERING
If you have already, or are planning to get your dog neutered prioer to any announcement of the transition period by the government please ensure that your dogs microchip is registered on your dogs record at the vets undertaking the operation as you will need to provide PROOF of compliance to DEFRA

If you require any further advice please contact us and we will do our best to help.

🐕 A new study by the VetCompass team at the RVC has found that dogs with heatstroke may be suffering even further due to outdated first aid practices. The research calls for updated guidance to be promoted more widely for dogs with heatstroke – including cold water immersion and using fans or air conditioning on soaked dogs – to support owners to provide the best possible care.

Today was very hot by lunchtime, so todays dog walk was mostly on lead, and in shady woodland to keep the dogs safe. Had to cancel 121s this afternoon as it was too hot to be safe.
PLEASE be careful with your dogs. The sudden change in temperature makes it more difficult to deal with.

Today’s walk was a quiet one in the cool of the trees. Chance to practice walking nicely on a lead, listening to verbal cues and investigating all the sniffs 🥰

An excellent piece - it is so important to research a breed or all the breeds if you are buying a designer crossbreed. Just because you love the look of a dog, it is so important that your pup has at least a chance of fitting your expectations.

I am really bad at taking pics of the 121 s I do. Today I remembered! This gorgeous girl is Skye, she had her second 121 today. She is doing brilliantly, her owner has been working on her not pulling, not reacting to cars and general obedience. She is as bright as she is beautiful 😍

Please, please, please be careful. Antifreeze tastes nice, your pets WILL lick it, and it kills.

Please, please, please be careful. Antifreeze tastes nice, your pets WILL lick it, and it kills.

🚨 WARNING! 🚨

It has become apparent that some snow globes contain liquid that includes antifreeze. This is HIGHLY toxic to cats and dogs, and can cause irreparable kidney damage within a very short period of time! PLEASE PLEASE make sure all snow globes are not near pets, pets love to knock things over (especially cats) and one lick of this liquid could kill your pet.

This is so true! Don’t create an expectation that they will interact with every dog the see, or you are setting yourself up for issues!

Ibuprofen is NOT safe for dogs!

By Heather Koehn: "Worst case of jaundice I’ve ever seen. Ibuprofen toxicity. The dog got into a fight with the other dog and the owner gave one dose of 600mg ibuprofen about 5 days prior to presentation at my clinic. The owner elected humane euthanasia."

Our Story

1-2-1 training and behaviour consultations at your home, or at a mutually convenient place. Puppy 121s in the real world!

My name is Elaine Cowling, I have been involved with dogs and their training for over 30 years, including working in boarding and rescue kennels, competing with my own dogs (mainly GSDs and Border Collies) in Obedience and running classes. I currently share my life with 4 ‘second hand’ dogs - Deacon (lab), Rio (Terveuren x) Kara (GSD) and Sky (B/C) and also co-own Ripley, a very handsome Smooth Collie who I show. I am a fully qualified and experienced lecturer in Animal Management, Training and Behaviour, with a degree from Hull University and a PGCE. I also work for the Kennel Club as an assessor for their Assured Breeder Scheme and regularly attend seminars and workshops to make sure that my knowledge is up to date.

I have more recently taken the decision to specialise in private sessions, as this makes sure that I can give your dog and you the individual attention that means that you can make good progress. I will assess you and your dog (usually at your own home), so that I have a good understanding of what makes your dog tick, and what is going to work best for you. As an experienced tutor, I am used to working with people at their own pace and will always make sure that you fully understand what you need to do and that you can carry out the techniques yourself.

I am friendly and approachable and aim to be non-judgemental in my approach.
