Though to be honest if he is doing something with Paul it tends to be his favourite thing. The bond they both have is just 👌

Didn’t post yesterday as was feeling too ill and it being Remembrance Day… but yesterday was 5 years since we drove to Devon and back in a day to pick up little squiggles.

Still feel so lucky we got one of these puppies, a proper good match of lines creating some great all round dogs with epic working ability but such good temperaments.

Yes Raven is at times a lot of work but she is also incredibly affectionate and loving. 5 years has involved a lot of challenges for her but half the time you wouldn’t know what she has been through.

Looking forward to lots more birthdays and gotcha days little squidge ❤️ hope you enjoy the next big adventure to come!

Keep getting lots of memories on Facebook recently of working this one on a shoot and I do so miss it. Pretty sure she does too. Would love to say one day we will get back to it but honestly don’t think that will happen. I don’t have as much time to train her now and she would need a lot before I let her loose on a shoot again.

Still feels good to know we did it and she was pretty epic at it. She is such a strong hunting dog, there are times I wish I put more into her. I think I need to start tracking with her again, do more scentwork, get that brain of hers working. She is an incredible working dog and I don’t give her enough credit for it. Do feel bad I’m not doing more with her, it really is a waste not giving these dogs a job to do, they really do thrive off working.

Our handsome Mozi ❤️

He has been loving his retrieving lately. Remember being told we would never get a greyster retrieving to hand reliably. Ha! He loves it! It’s good for him too, what with building him up slowly now his steroids have been reduced. He is so unfit and he finds it really frustrating but this gives him something to do when he can’t run like he wants to.

As for med update: he was reduced to steroid every other day but started being sick again almost immediately and we had more days of sickness than not. So we spoke to his vet again and he is back on one a day with 125mg of Atopica twice a day. He is now back on this dose for 3 weeksish to see if we can get him settled again and then I don’t know what is next. Doesn’t look like he will be completely off the steroids so not sure if we will end up trying to reduce the Atopica. Guess we will see! On plus side though he is happier, generally more up for doing stuff and more playful so at least the really bad side effects seem to be dwindling… just got to hope he puts muscle back on now and maybe his bald patches might grow some hair back too 🤞

As it’s and granny Jess took the most stunning photos of Raven as a puppy ❤️ this came up on FB memories today! Also came up on memories today that 4 years ago she got her hip and elbow scores back giving her a clean sweep of health and colour testing.

All the lovely memories and wasn’t she just the cutest little squidge? ❤️❤️❤️

My beautiful Lily monkey ❤️

We love the woods at the moment. The logging has made so much great space for the dogs to run and train. It’s also created some great trails for Paul to take them running and bikejoring. The best bit is the car park is shut and so the woods are so much quieter. Honestly we are absolutely loving the woods at the moment. Can’t wait for clocks to change and then we might get there before work a bit too 😊

Anyone else seen the temperatures for the mornings over the weekend?

At long last! Bring on the cold weather ❄️❄️❄️

Hopefully get the dogs out biking over the weekend, if not on the bike I literally can’t wait to having a good cold walk! This October has been far too warm so far, bring on winter! 🥳

It’s no big secret Raven has been quite feral recently. Lots of reasons why, mostly just down to the fact with everything going on we haven’t been out training her enough and she really needs that input.

We haven’t been to the woods for a while because they have been logging and it’s been quite stressful keeping Raven in check and making sure Mozi isn’t eating anything he shouldn’t be (muzzle shopping has not been successful with him 😕). However a run round the woods is so good for them mentally and physically. We also wanted to check out what had been done because if the forecast is right it’s going to be really good bikejor weather next weekend! So had to check what routes are still there vs what ones have been destroyed by the logging equipment.

Safe to say they have cleared more than we have ever seen them clear in one go, it’s a very different woods now. However it’s great for the dogs, especially the munsters because the open land is easier to control Ravens hunting, probably because there isn’t a squirrel leading to another and leading her further and further away.

Was so good to let her hunt somewhere that’s safe and whilst under control. She is such a strong hunter, so much more than Dill ever was and we have 100% not been putting the effort in with her recently which is all on us. Hopefully with the woods opened up like this it will give us more space to let her run and put that time in. She was so good yesterday, they all were for the most part (ignoring whatever Mozi ate that he shouldn’t have 🤦‍♀️ thankfully no repercussions…). Spent over two hours at the woods yesterday, the dogs were shattered afterwards but it was a really good two hours. Bring on lots more walks like that oh and the colder weather to go with them!

Mozi IBD update!

Spoke to dick whites a couple of weeks ago and we have been able to reduce Mozi down to one 5mg steroid a day alongside 125mg of Atopica twice a day. The issue is every time we reduce the steroids he is being sick, so far just the once and it was just the once when we dropped down to two steroids. Hoping that means he will settle now and no more sick 🤞

The issue with him being sick every time we drop the steroid makes the vet think the irritation hasn’t healed as much as they hoped. She is still optimistic about getting him off meds but I am much more realistic and honestly don’t see that happening. I think he may end up on meds for life which sucks especially at the cost of the Atopica and honestly the stuff stinks of w**d even though it has none in them 🤷‍♀️

On plus side he js showing signs of wanting to play again and a little more drive for wanting to run and stuff. I think he is gaining a little muscle again where the steroid side effects are wearing off. So that is good and his anxiety issues seem to be reducing too now steroids are reducing so that is also great!

He is enjoying little treats of carrots and veg. He can’t have any meat but thankfully he isn’t exactly picky and so when the others get chicken skins he is really happy with his bit of carrot. One day I want to try him on fish stuff again but that won’t be for a long time - need to wait and see what happens with his meds etc. at the moment he is enjoying his veggie diet and doing quite well on it. Got another call with Dick Whites in a couple of weeks to talk about reducing steroids to every other day and then stopping completely so we might be steroid free by Christmas 🤞

Another photo by from

This one I love because it so clearly highlights issues with Dill’s harness, mostly in one place which is why I love that this harness is adjustable.

On the second photo I have drawn all over it to highlight the issue - which in this case is that he has lost muscle mass and so the length of the string is now too long and you can see quite clearly how it is sitting on his hip rather than above it. This will interfere with his full range of motion, but thankfully because the front end still fits lovely we just shorten the letting at the back to make it the right length and if we get the muscle back on him we can then lengthen it again. It’s also worth noting that the harness needs to be long enough too! We had an xback on Dill that looked like it fitted but was snug around his pelvis and actually caused back issues! So fit around that end is just as important as neck/shoulders which most people concentrate on.

The other lines are also important areas I look at for when the dog is pulling in harness - if the harness isn’t being pulled back on a dog you cannot see if it fits correctly.

The purple line is where the end of Dill’s ribs are and when being pulled, the sides of the harness which are obvious in the photo as it’s the webbing part of the harness should not go beyond this line at all when pulled. You see lots of dogs in harnesses that look okay if the dog isn’t pulling but the minute they put pressure into it the harness slides behind the ribs and it’s more likely to slip.

The green line shows the shoulder which a lot more people are aware of now, this needs to be kept clear and for that to happen a harness should fit snuggly around the neck. People don’t seem to like the snug fit because it can make harnesses more difficult to get over the head but if it isn’t snug it will move and is likely to then cause issues.

Harness fit is really important and it is unique to every dog.

This is why we recommend as Emily and Toria are trained in dog anatomy and rehabilitation, which you don’t get elsewhere. You can use Mallingdownk9 to get a discount when ordering too!

Tridog this year had two photographers, which just isn’t good for my bank account but I don’t know how many years Dill has left in him to do this and so am making the most of it.

Paul gave up racing several years ago now because the competitive side wasn’t nice. So other than a few local human races that allow canicross he only does tridog and that really is because Dill loves it so much.

This was their 9th triathlon together and I’m pretty sure the pair of them could make it round the course with their eyes closed - in fact Paul couldn’t see a thing during his swim on Saturday because his goggles steamed up and he had the sun in his eyes. It was only because Dill started pulling sideways that he took them off to check where they were and realised they were at the exit point! 😂

The boys go for a good time and that is what they had. They were 4th after Saturday which was surprising because the pair of them used to do the course sub 20 minutes and are now at the point of taking 22 minutes (on both days! Very consistent!) so to then find themselves 3rd overall on Sunday really was an unexpected surprise! Especially as Dill had a good long dip in the paddling pool at the second transition because it was a bit warmer!

Dill will be 10 next year for his 10th triathlon, if we can keep him sound enough to compete. Really hope we get him there to do it, honestly the love this dog has for tridog is something else.

Anyway there will be plenty more photos to share and I will spam them all so enjoy 😁

This one was taken by and is of Paul trying not to have a chat to the photographer whilst she was taking the photo 🤦‍♀️🤣

Happy 5th birthday feral child ❤️

I’m sure you are growing more feral as you get older but you can’t help that the world is just full of amazing things.

You are still the neediest, snuggliest little girl who just wants everyone to love her all the time!

Happy birthday Raven ❤️

Good morning ☀️

Some early morning training with the feral one, whilst the other three finally get to canicross again. She would probably like to go running too but she really needs that one to one time at the moment. Mad to think she is 5 at the weekend, she definitely didn’t get the memo about maturing at that age…

Think this sums up our feelings of the weather this week. Two more days and then it should go back to something a little easier to live with. Dogs are so fed up.

Tridog is two weeks away so hopefully we can get more training in beforehand and this really will be the end of summer 🤞

Say hi to Paul’s birthday present. Keeping this a secret was HARD! So it was a massive relief when it arrived today and I could finally give it to him.

I really wanted to get him something special and that showed off Dill being Dill. I wanted that cheeky thieving side of him but I also wanted him doing his most favourite thing too. It took a while to decide exactly what I wanted but I knew the artist who I wanted to do it: Captured in Pencil and honestly go and check him out. He helped plan the portrait and literally bought my vision to life. The detail is just incredible and it has caught his personality so well ❤️

Can’t wait to get it framed and on the wall. We both absolutely love it!

Also need to say a massive thanks to Horses for Courses Photography for allowing me to use one of her photos of him racing!

Throwback Thursday to one of my favourite post race photos of Paul and Dill.

I have no idea if this has ever been posted on here before and I can’t even remember who it was who took the photo. Think it was just someone who turned up at the Thetford race maybe to watch friends or something.

There is a whole sequence of these though and they are some of my favourites ❤️

Our Story

Our dogs are always first and foremost are our pets. We adore them, they live with us and spend most of their time on our sofa and bed!

Lily is our rescue Springer cross and adores her agility, she has done amazingly in the short time she has competed, qualifying for Discover Dogs at her 4th show! She finished her second season winning into Grade 4 and is hoping to qualify for the Novice ABC in 2018, if she doesn’t succeed then we have a plan for 2019! Dill, our Large Munsterlander, and Paul placed 16th in the World Rankings 2016/2017, with a national UK ranking of 4th. It is a sport the pair of them work together and adore. Dill has previously competed in working gundog tests and has more recently started training in agility. He has also been used in a number of scientific research studies and has shown there really is no end to his talents!

Mozi is a purpose bred race dog, otherwise known as a Greysther. He hasn’t ran in harness yet, as mentally we feel he isn’t quite ready. He will hopefully start within the next couple of months. He is an amazing boy to live with, so sweet and loving. Hopefully he has a bright future! Our dogs are sponsored by K9 Trail Time and we are super grateful for all the support we have been given!
