Not using hay racks at all is not particularly sensible. This provides the perfect growth conditions for mold and bacteria directly from the dirty and damp ground! Horses stand in the hay, adding to its dirtiness. Urine and ammonia can easily reach the hay in this way. Through the f***s, worms and worm eggs can also be ingested.
