🎄🎄 CHRISTMAS MIRACLE UPDATE!! 🥰

We're thrilled to announce that our fabulous old lady Fluffy has a new home......and doesn't she look pleased with herself! She's settled in beautifully and can now enjoy her twilight years in comfort.....at 14 years old, having been very well cared for as an outdoor cat, we think she's earned the right to be pampered! We often find that cats who've lived outdoors, some in very tough conditions, adapt really well to living in a family home and adore the comfort.....after all, who doesn't like a warm cosy bed? Huge thanks to Deborah and her family for giving Fluffy such a wonderful home. 😽

Enjoy your new life beautiful girl, you deserve it! ❤️

Handsome Steve (formerly Enzo, "foster fail" now living permanently with me with his mum, Margot 😂) would like to wish all our followers and supporters a very merry Christmas and happy new year! He hopes lots of cats and kittens will land on their feet in 2024 just like he has!

A huge thankyou to everyone who has helped and supported us in any way this this year....every single person who has donated funds, food, adopted our cats/kittens, made crafts for us to sell and raise funds, volunteers who have helped with events, fosterers...... the list goes on......thankyou so much, we are so grateful!! It's been a busy year and your help has been so appreciated. We're a small, new charity (although Susan has years of experience from her Cats Protection days) and there's still so much to do to get us where we need to be....but watch this space, we're determined to get there! 🎄🎄REMEMBER TABITHA FROM "CHRISTMAS MIRACLE NEEDED"? 🎄🎄

Our miracle has almost come true......Tabitha's buddies, Fluffy and Tigger, have fabulous new homes lined up, but we still need to find room at the inn for her! This beautiful, chatty girl is around 7 years old and has been living a very well supported outdoor life on a farm, unfortunately her current carers have to move on and can't take her. Tabitha is a little nervous but with time and affection she'll make a wonderful pet; although she's used to living outdoors (with shelter) we think she'll love having a warm bed or a sofa to snuggle on, she'll appreciate a safe outdoor space too. Another outdoor home is also an option, as long as it's with someone who understands she needs to be supported with regular feeding, shelter and veterinary attention as and when she needs it.
If you think you can offer gorgeous Tabitha a loving home, please contact us asap. Let's hope we can give her the Merry Christmas she deserves! 🎄 😽

*** CHRISTMAS MIRACLE NEEDED!! ***

We're urgently seeking, "room at the inn" for 14 year old Fluffy and her two friends Tabitha & Tigger, (7 years & 3 years respectively), they currently live outdoors on a farm, all neutered and all tame and friendly. Unfortunately the lady who has looked after them for the last few years has to move out of the farm in a couple weeks and desperately hopes to find someone who can take them on, not necessarily as a trio, they would be fine as single cats. We'd really like to see at least Fluffy and Tigger living indoors.....at 14 this old lady deserves some comfort and Tigger seems to be deaf so he'd be safer inside. (Videos of Tabitha & Tigger will follow, for some reason I can only put one on this post). If you think you may be able to make their Christmas merry, please do get in touch asap! 🎄😽

We had a great day on Sunday at the Congleton Veterinary Centre open day, selling cakes and pom-pom cats to raise funds! Huge thanks to everyone who baked for us, the biscoff cupcakes were especially popular! We still have some pom-poms left, perfect for your Christmas tree, or anywhere you fancy a bit of glittery kitty bling! Just £3 each, all proceeds go to our cats. 😸

Thanks also to Deborah, Annaliese and Viv for their hard work at the RSPCA Stapeley Grange Christmas Fair, also on Sunday, the stall looked fantastic! Every penny raised helps us keep doing what we do for unwanted and neglected cats.....we hope to continue more fundraising events in the New Year so keep following us! 😽

** "ACORN" UPDATE**

This poor little cat who we collected earlier has sadly had to be put to sleep to end his suffering.😢
After making him as comfortable as possible, a further examination revealed not only painful, rotten teeth but dead, rotting flesh in the back of his throat, hence why he was unable to eat; this is symptomatic of end stage kidney failure; the kidneys felt very enlarged and he had blood in his stools, indicating he probably had an advanced cancer. This cat was very sick indeed and the kindest thing to do was to let him go quietly and painlessly off to sleep. We take comfort knowing that for his last hours he was safe, warm, hydrated and felt the touch of kind hands. Thanks as always to the wonderful vets and nurses at Nantwich Pet Vets, also to Jeannie Latham for waiting with him until Susan could get there to collect him.....that was so appreciated, so many people had just walked by and ignored him. How tragic that this was someone's kitten once, another cat let down by people who didn't care enough.😢

Sleep tight little Acorn, we hope your next life will be kinder than your last 💔 xx

Does anyone recognise this beautiful girl? She's been hanging around Glover Street for a little while now, very friendly, rather scruffy and thin but otherwise looks ok. Not chipped unfortunately 🙁
Perhaps she belonged to someone who has since moved out of the area? Any info would be appreciated while we try to secure a place for her.

😸 HANDSOME HOBO! ♥️

Look at this beautiful boy, finally in a warm safe place to start his great clean up! You wouldn't believe how filthy he is, found last week living at the recycling centre on Pym's Lane, Crewe.....he looks like he's been there a little while, poor boy!
We wonder if he may have jumped out of a car or van.....accidental stowaways are more common than you think! He's a mature adult cat, neutered but sadly not chipped.....we hope someone may recognise him. We'll be giving regular updates to show his cleaning progress! 😘

We had a great day yesterday at the RSPCA Crewe & Nantwich Branch Christmas Fair, we raised almost £200 selling crafts made by our wonderful volunteers! Thankyou to everyone who stopped by for a browse and a chat, special thanks to Deborah Clifford (top saleswoman!) and Viv for taking time out to help us. Looking forward to our next two events on December 10th at RSPCA Stapeley Grange and Congleton Veterinary Centre......crafts and cakes next time! Hope to see you there 😽

😺 THINKING OF GETTING A CAT IN RENTED ACCOMMODATION? IMPORTANT THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW 😸
(Long post alert!!)

Here at our rescue, just like others all over the country, we are often inundated with requests to take in cats whose owners can no longer keep them in rented properties. While we're sympathetic to this (and help if we can), it's sadly a problem that could so often be avoided with communication and, dare I say it, a bit of commonsense!

The Renters Reform Bill, introduced to Parliament in May this year, will help both tenants and landlords reach mutual agreements to help keep pets and owners together, something which animal charities have been advocating for some time. Unfortunately, due to delays, this legislation is unlikely to become law until late 2024, possibly even Spring 2025.....so in the meantime it's important to understand what your rights and responsibilities are.

In 2021, the government introduced a voluntary scheme called the Model Tenancy Agreement to encourage communication between landlords and tenants and to have permissions and requirements written into tenancy agreements. This meant an end to "blanket" pet bans; instead owners request permission in writing and the landlord has 28 days to respond, giving a reasonable explanation for a refusal. If they don't respond within this time, the default position is that the pet is allowed to stay. This is a good idea, except that it's not mandatory, landlords don't have to follow this guidance.

So what should you do if you really want a cat in this situation? The very first thing is.......think it through! Ask yourself honestly.....
*Will this property be long term or will you be on the move in a year or so, looking for a new pet friendly rental?
*Could you afford to board your cat for any length of time if you had to move on suddenly, or do you have family/friends who would look after them for you? (And make sure you ask them....never assume!)
*Can you afford extra insurance or a deposit that your landlord may ask for to cover any damages? Kittens for example can be quite destructive!

Most importantly......

** TALK TO YOUR LANDLORD!! **
Ask permission and if granted, get it in writing. Be clear and specific about what it is you want.....don't ask if it's ok to have a kitten then sneak in two or three! Assure them it will be neutered so as not to bring home kittens, spray around the house or exhibit any other antisocial behaviours which could affect the property or other neighbours. Open and honest communication with your landlord is the key......and if unfortunately they absolutely won't allow a pet, respect their decision and don't just go ahead and get one anyway......you could risk breaking your tenancy agreement and face eviction. The right time will come for you to have a pet, I promise!

Remember, renting can be unpredictable, never more so than now. Many landlords are increasing rents to cover costs, others are simply selling up.....and as a responsible pet owner you need a plan to cope with these possibilities because animal charities just don't always have the space or resources to help!

😢😢 FIND THE MONSTER RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS 😡😡

This is the poor cat shot with an air rifle at the weekend who had to be put to sleep to end his suffering.

Feels different when there's a face to go with the story doesn't it?
Just look at him, still alert, wondering why he's in pain, why has someone hurt him like this? And now he's gone. Free from pain at least, but what an absolute waste of a beautiful, innocent life. Thank goodness there was a kind person who got him to the vet, he would've had such a long, painful end. 😢

If you have a teenager or family member, friend or neighbour who uses an air rifle, ask them what they shoot with it. Chances are they'll be happy to brag if they shoot cats, people like that usually are. And if they do, report them to the police straight away. They don't deserve your protection, your loyalty, your friendship......ironically all the things that this innocent little cat should've had.

Please don't let his death be in vain.....he sadly isn't the first and there will be others if this monster is allowed to continue. Report any incidents to the police and please be vigilant with your own pets. 😽

😢😢 CAT SHOT IN CREWE 😡😡

We've been notified that a cat was taken to Eden Vets last night having been shot in the spine with an air rifle. This cat was from the Frank Webb/West Street area of Crewe and sadly, it's not the first time this has happened. Unfortunately nothing could be done for this poor cat and he was put to sleep to end his suffering.

We always recommend keeping cats indoors at night and it goes without saying this is more important than ever in this particular area. Fireworks season is also upon us, please get your cats in before dark, so many go missing this time of year having been terrified and disorientated by the noise and flashes.

If you have any information about who may be responsible for shooting cats in that area, please get in touch with the police, the perpetrator needs to be held to account.....next time it could be a child 😡
