🐾 Who needs words when a wagging tail says it all? 🐾

Dogs have perfected the art of instant communication, expressing emotions like joy, love, curiosity or even anxiety with just a flick of their tail. It’s a universal language that both humans and other dogs instinctively understand.

Meanwhile, we rely on words - often taking hours to convey what they express in seconds!

Research by neuroscientist Giorgio Vallortigara found that the direction of a tail wag matters too — right wags signal happiness, while left can indicate uncertainty.

Dog of The Month

🐶🐾 When Duggee first arrived, he was a little nervous of other dogs and barking a lot as a way of expressing uncertainty and trying to protect himself. It was clear he lacked confidence in new situations and with unfamiliar people or surroundings. But through time, patience, and consistent positive reinforcement, he has slowly blossomed into a much more self-assured doggie. 🎉

Today, he is no longer the anxious dog he once was. Instead, he’s learned how to trust his surroundings and the people around him. His playful nature has emerged, and he now loves engaging with others, whether it’s fetching a ball, running with other dogs, or simply enjoying time sniffing out treats. 🦴🐕

The most remarkable change is that he now play’s off-lead with ease. His transformation is a testament to the progress he has made in learning to trust and feel secure in his environment. It’s clear that Duggee’s confidence has grown, and this journey from nervousness to playfulness is a beautiful example of how patience and understanding can bring out the best in our furry companions. 😍

This shift from anxiety to confidence is a common experience for dogs that are given time and consistent training. It’s heartwarming to see how they’ve evolved!

🐾 One Mistake I’d Never Make Is Comparing My Dog To Others! 🐾

👀 Here’s Why:

Each dog is a unique individual with its own personality, learning style and life experiences. As a trainer, it's crucial to recognise that what works for one dog may not work for another and this understanding is fundamental to effective training. Every dog has different needs, strengths and challenges. For example, some dogs may be naturally confident and eager to learn, whilst others might require more patience and encouragement. By assessing these unique traits we at Barkology can tailor our training methods and care services to best suit each dog's needs.

Moreover, comparing dogs to one another can lead to frustration and a sense of inadequacy for both the dog and the owner, creating a negative training environment. When the emphasis shifts from individual progress to competition, it can hinder a dog's development and the relationship between the dog and owner (Serpell, 1995). Instead, we celebrate every little achievement, no matter how small, reinforcing a positive mindset that motivates each dog to keep progressing. This approach fosters a supportive training environment where success is measured by personal growth, not comparison.

Remember, training is about nurturing growth and building a stronger connection with the dog. By appreciating each dog for who they are and the joy they bring into our lives, we create a loving, positive training journey that benefits both the dog and the owner.

Jumping into another new month here at Barkology 🎉

And that means I’m bringing up the dreaded C word CHRISTMAS 🎅🏼

🎄Christmas Walks 🎄

For the last few years I have offered Christmas in the Chilterns and they are always super popular so this year we’re doing the same. These walks are all longer walks between 7 to 15 miles and enable us to enjoy the beautiful area in which we live such as Ashridge Estate, Christmas Common and even Hambleden Valley.

Walk locations will be chosen based upon the dogs we have each day rather than offering specific options. This is so each dog can get the most out of their day 🐾

We will be doing the walks in smaller groups so 5 dogs per walk (this is so we can continue to run a normal day care or walking day causing less disruption to the normal weekly layout). Days are dependant on the interest we have.

If you are interested please do send me an email or text as spaces are first come first serve. Cost is our normal day care rate of £30.

🎅🏼 Christmas Photos 🎅🏼

Our Halloween photos went down a treat and so on top of our Christmas walks I’d like to offer people the opportunity to have Christmas Photos taken.

Depending on the uptake I will get back to work his magic and bring you all some fantastic photo memories.

When I came up with the idea of trying a Halloween themed photo shoot I honestly didn’t think they would turn out so incredible 🎃

I couldn’t hold off till the 31st October as they are just too good to hold on to but today seemed just as fitting!!

Every year on the 26th October in Armenia they have a massive pumpkin festival and I think some of our doggies would fit right in 😍

Fun Fact - Pumpkin is super good for your doggy!! It’s packed full of nutrients and has many health benefits including being good for their eyesight, a natural anti-parasitic and contains lots of fibre.

I highly recommend adding pumpkin to stuffed Kong’s or spreading it on your , or placing it inside .

We had a fabulous morning at our first Barkology Breakfast Club Workshop.

All the dogs were incredibly well behaved and owners went away having new tools to help their dogs succeed.

We are very lucky to use super training tools from , and to help our dogs with the process!!

Big thanks to Sarah Shackleton for giving up her Saturday morning to help 😊

Our next workshop will be shared tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled 😍

I always mention family here at Barkoloy and that’s because every single dog that signs up to our services becomes a massive part of ours.

For nearly 4 years we have had the pleasure of looking after Alfie ❤️ so when his owners told me they were moving it’s safe to say we were all a little sad!!

We want to wish them the most incredible life back home in Romania. We will miss his crazy ways and happy smile and whilst we wish you didn’t have to go we can’t wait to follow your new journey and hopefully one day visit 🐾🐶

Tails and Trails is an independently run canine business based in Oving owned and created by Toni Coad. We strive to offer a professional and reliable broad range of services with options to suit all needs and budgets. Our passion is your beloved 4-legged friends thats why we put their care and happiness as the number one priority. I cover Aylesbury and the surrounding areas - The Claydons, Calvert etc

Tails and Trails is fully licensed and insured - No: LC201812-31159 Dog walks can range from individual one to one walks, to group walks, that are offered in a variety of walk locations. The group walks are subject to prior introductions to other dogs on the walk and would not exceed 5 dogs at any one time. The duration of the walk itself can range from half an hour to an hour. I like to be as flexible as possible as I know plans and commitments can change on a daily basis. I therefore offer flexible dog walking packages and services that are tailor made for you.

Day Care is a great way for your pet to get some exercise and meet some new friends at the same time. Your dog will not only be taken for long walks and showered if muddy, but have time to socialise, nap and play. We are super lucky to have an array of facilities here at Tails and Trails to keep doggies occupied and enjoying themselves such as the ball pit, digging pit and play tunnel. Tails and Trails will pick your doggy up between 8am and 9.30am, then a day full of fun before being returned home, happy and tired between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

Going on holiday and cant take your beloved furry friend with you? Or maybe even an overnight hospital visit, well don't worry, Tails and Trails Dog Walking offers home from home dog boarding as an alternative to kennels. Your dog will spend his holiday in my loving home with my boys. Your beloved pet will receive lots of attention and most importantly be part of a loving family. Tails and Trails Dog Walking will offer 2 daily walks and all the creature comforts of their family home including some other fun filled trips we often plan. Pet visits, 15minutes minimum, are offered for a large variety of animals. During this time your pet will be fed, watered, brushed, played with, cuddled and cleaned out/let out if required. If you are returning late in the evening I will put your house lights on and close any curtains if requested, this offers more security for you and your home.
