This is a good article about the origins of the black cat superstitions for anyone who would like to learn more after my previous post!

In summary though, black cats have long been associated with Witches, who of course are feared by the church for their knowledge and power. This association has led to black cats also being feared and considered vessels of evil 😔

Personally I find them absolutely adorable!

As early as the 13th century, the Catholic Church linked cats to Satan. Cats' association with witches and evil dates at least as far back as the 13th century.

Some of the non furry pets I have been looking after, aren't they gorgeous 😍

Did you know reptiles such as this bearded dragon require a carefully controlled temperature gradient in their Viv, and eat an omnivorous diet of insects and veggies.

Not all pet sitters are comfortable with providing this kind of specialist care, but I have had a lot of experience with various exotic pet species and am more than happy to feed out live bugs while you're away!

Who saw the Aurora last night? It was my first time and I was so happy to finally see them, that's one ticked off the bucket list, and right from my own garden! What a beautiful reminder of how incredible our planet is 😍

Some excellent advice here about keeping your doggos safe around roads 🐾

With autumn comes shorter days and longer nights, meaning your normal evening walking routine may be affected by the dark! 🌃

Heading out with your pooch usually involves walking on roads or pavements, which can be dangerous for dogs if we’re not careful.

Here's a refresher on how to keep your dog safe around roads 👇

[Visual description: An infographic displaying a winding road with a dog sat at the forefront. The text around the image reads: How to keep your dog safe around roads. Plan your route carefully to avoid roads without pavements. Keep your dog on a short lead attached to a well-fitted collar or harness. Don't use an extender lead as it won't give you the control you need if your dog suddenly dashes off or jumps into the road. Be prepared with a collar, tag, microchip and insurance. Teach your dog awareness to help them learn some road sense with simple commands such as 'sit' and 'wait'. Using a reflective lead, high visibility dog coat or an LED collar will ensure you and your dog can be seen when you're out walking, especially when it's dark or when visibility is poor. It's a good idea to teach them an emergency command such as 'stop', so you can get them to stop immediately if they are faced with a dangerous situation.]

Introduction Post

For anyone who doesn't already know me, my name is Carly and I would like to do a little intro so you can know a bit more about me!

I have worked with animals for much of my professional life, as a zookeeper working with many exotic species but particularly Primates, as well as in veterinary practices and animal charity surgeries. I am a qualified Veterinary Care Assistant, and have a wealth of experience in all manners of pet care.

Our current pets include 1 cat, 1 bearded dragon, 2 guinea pigs and 9 Indian stick insects!

And so you know what I look like, here is a picture of me holding a white lipped tree frog at Chester House the other day (That is my mum's gorgeous little doggy in the background) 😍
