We are looking to find a home for Daisy, though she’s a brilliant therapy horse a change in circumstances sadly means that this is the right option. Home is far more important than price as she owes us nothing. We are open to discussing an offer or possibly a loan agreement.

Daisy is a 15.2hh, 14 year old, very chunky cob mare. She has a wonderful nature, and is good as gold to handle and groom even for the smallest of children. She leads out in traffic, round obstacle courses, and will stand to be plaited for hours.
We don’t know much of her history but we believe she was used as a broodmare. Last year we introduced her to lunging and long lining, but she was very worried about backing and we decided that at her age we would not push it and we are looking for a companion/broodmare home.
Fully up to date with worming, physio, dentist, farrier etc. Good doer and lives out in a mixed herd without a rug, though will happily stable as well. She is a real pleasure to have on the yard 🥰

Poem ~ The Dumping Season
I am a big hearted, sensible Irish cob,
Ambassador to non ridden equines is my job.
Young ones like me are taken from their mums,
Through noisy sales their humans do sums.
For only a few pounds sterling these equines are sold,
Sadly, sometimes into a bleak future I am told.
Over breeding is rife so some don't get a good home,
Sadly, little coloured colts are dumped to roam.
In the news stories of ones found near deaths door,
Are fly tipped in rubbish on the streets and hard floor.
The suffering is real, and we must do more,
Who will help us or walk away and ignore?
My humans cannot turn a blind eye or walk away,
They try so hard to give us all a voice and have our say.

This year's foals are now going to be facing being parted from their mums and some will not be lucky to find good guardians. Young, old, injured, sick, behavioural issues, etc.... once an equine cannot do a job in an equine world geared towards riding it is seen to have little or no value. Non ridden equines are the most at risk of neglect abuse abandonment and substandard care. Autumn and winter to follow plenty will suffer. More has to be done than clicking like with like minded people. Please support your local equine welfare. They rely on donations to do the much needed work in rescue and rehabilitation of abused and neglected equines.

A new photograph is released today of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s fell pony, Emma.

Emma paid tribute to Her Majesty during the Ceremonial Procession in Windsor on Monday 19th September, ahead of the Committal Service at St George’s Chapel.

For the past fifteen years, Queen Elizabeth regularly rode Emma for light exercise in the grounds around Windsor Castle, during Her Majesty’s private time.

Emma will continue to be much-loved and cared for at the Royal Mews, Windsor, and regularly exercised by its small, dedicated team.

*** LAMENESS IN HORSES = PAIN ***

Very rarely is a horse “stiff”, and not in pain, or at least some discomfort.

If your horse is lame, then he/she is in pain. (Mechanical lameness can exist, but is extremely rare).

Your horse is not “a bit stiff”, if he is constantly “a bit stiff”. Stiffness (both muscular and arthritic) wears off as the horse moves about, and most horses that look stiff, are in fact lame. Agreed, ancient horses and ponies can look stiff, but this is due to arthritis, so again, is likely due to pain!

If your horse is looking “stiff” in one leg, he is definitely lame. There are very many causes of lameness, and if your horse is suddenly looking “stiff”, then you need to speak to your Vet.

I try not to involve myself with social media posts in various groups, but the one time I do step in, is when someone states that their horse is “not comfy” in trot, or “quite stiff” in trot, but definitely not in any pain. Yes, your horse is in pain.

Unlike in humans, muscle stiffness in horses is relatively rare. You will soon know if your horse is just a bit stiff, as he/she will improve to looking their normal self with a bit of light exercise/turn out.

Another comment I sometimes hear, is that “my horse didn’t look lame when he cantered across the field”, or “my horse isn’t in any pain as I have seen him charging around the field”. This is firstly because a horse rarely looks lame in canter or gallop, unless extremely lame, and secondly due to the fact that horses are a prey species, and therefore have a very strong “fight or flight” response to danger; if they field mates shoot off across the field, they will do their best to keep up with them, however painful that may be.

To summarise:
- Lameness = pain
- Horses rarely look lame in canter
- Your horse cantering across a field when his herd mates bolt off, doesn’t mean he isn’t in pain.
