Dates for the next 6 week puppy training and socialisation courses. For puppies aged between 12 weeks and 6 months. Prepare your puppy for the real world. Learn through fun games and exercises focusing on recall, loose lead walking, heeling, impulse control as well as sit, stay, down, using positive methods. Gentle socialisation play will be guided. Suitable for all breeds. Class or individual discussions and Q&A. Held in a secure field in Farley Green, near Guildford

There is 1 space available for the horse socialisation session this Friday 24th May at 10am at Blackheath. The aim of this 1 1/2 hour session is to introduce dogs to a nice steady horse so they are less likely to chase or bark at horses in the future. Dogs must be over 7 months old and attended training session with Field and Fido. Cost is £40. Message me if you are interested.

There are still a few spaces available for the Water Workshop next Friday 10th May at the Bellesis Estate, Mickleham, nr Boxhill.
-10am-12pm is for those who are not yet swimming, are not confident swimmers or for those who find the water way too exciting.
-1pm-3pm is for the more experienced swimmer with a good level of control around water, handling and retrieving.

This gorgeous male German Shorthaired Pointer is “at that age”. He finds certain environments over exciting, especially if other dogs are about. On the training walk this week we kept it short, concentrating on keeping him connected to his handler. One way we did this was to get him to walk along this log. He really enjoyed doing this. Incorporating fun activities like this on walks helps with focus, bond building and proprioception. He also attends the Thursday Beginners Gundog class, which provides fun challenges keeping his focus whilst in the presence of other dogs.

Week 3 for the Beginner Gundogs and we were working on the basic retrieve pattern, introducing the line up and straight lines, which sets the foundations for future blind retrieves. Almost without noticing it this exercise also works on stay with distraction, connection, impulse control/steadiness, recall, heel. We also practised the stop whistle, approaching it from two of the many methods to get the important stop nailed.

Last week this lovely lot came to the end of their 6 week Puppy Training and Socialisation course. Well done everyone. You all did a brilliant job with your pups. I always love it when a group asks lots of questions. It shows they are truly invested in their puppy’s training. 💕

I’m proud to say that Fig and I were assessed for The Gundog Club Grade 5 Part 2 with Water and scored high enough to get a Merit overall. 🥳
