What another beautiful day it has been, not too hot and a lovely cool breeze, although those pesky horse flies are back with a vengeance, nasty little creatures.
Today was a new pastures move for four of the big horses (but not Ralph) and here are a few pics not only of the horses but of our beautiful sanctuary.
We keep our land and premises well maintained, it takes a lot of work (usually Mr B with help from John) but as you can see it is well worth the effort. It is a fabulous place to be. Love Pam x x

We had a very enjoyable day today at the Plough Public House in Gresford, who had very kindly organised a fundraising "Western" event in support of the Sanctuary. I would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone who helped with making this event a success, to Tracey and especially Julie who worked her socks off in raising funds. And of course to my team of volunteers and the Saturday kids club and the ponies, Titch and Mouse.. A fab £366 was raised

The was a line dancing display and there was volunteer Jane Roberts joining in and having a great time along with daughter Cerys.

Well done everyone, Love Pam x

I can't believe it will be the longest day on Saturday, I use to love riding my pony/horse into the sunset, I remember dad leaning on the farm gate in the dusk smoking his pipe, waiting for me to come home. (no mobile phones in those days) Happy Memories.

Anyway times move on and these days it's just as fab watching our horses/ponies/donkeys grazing on a summers night in quiet and peace of the sanctuary.

The ponies in the photos looking content and happy will soon be looking for new long term homes. They are all well handled and use to the farrier and dentist, they are good on road and handled by the Saturday Kids Club. . All homes will be vetted and a loan fee is required. An application form is available from our website www.thehackhorsesanctuary.co.uk We put a lot of hard work into our rescued animals and want the very best homes and a good future life for them. We do not do short term loans. (kids holidays etc.) Love Pam x

Ohhh heck... it's that time of year when we are on the hunt for the dreaded ragwort, but it is something that has to be done. Helen has been spending a lot of her spare time going around the fields digging up this poisonous plant and protecting the health and wellbeing of our rescued equids.
This photo taken last week shows Helen teaching The Saturday Kids Club to identify the Ragwort and remove it safely. It has to be said, that not everyone likes or is enthusiastic for this chore, though the kids may pull a face, they do just get on with it. All health and safety rules are in place. Love Pam x

What a beautiful day it has been, but Doogie the donk is not so sure, because someone mentioned it was a good bath day....But Dougal, surely that feels better, and a new rug to boot.

Dougal has been a poorly boy of late but is now on the mend and feeling a lot better, we have changed his hay to recreational haylage, and his meds are now reduced. Nothing is too much trouble for volunteer Beth who looks after Dougal. And a very good job she does. Even the standoffish Maybelle Donk is allowing Beth's administrations . Happy Donkey's.

On the other hand Ralph is keeping his distance. I have never heard a horse sigh so much. Well Ralph, I am afraid your time will come. Love Pam x

Just a quick update on our Open Day last Sunday 25th May, I am pleased to announce we raised just over £3,000, still waiting for sponsor payments, but we are very happy with the results and would like to thank everyone so very much who supported this event. Love Pam x Pic of Eli

Well, it's been a a bitterly cold couple of weeks or so, and someone who will remain nameless (he builds fab shelters) managed to damage my car so I have had to beg lifts to the sanctuary, but at the weekend my son Peter said "I will drop you off mum" you know the lad with heated seats.. huh...said vehicle is also in the garage so we had to use his old landrover, whose windows don't close and I am sure it is all held together with baling twine, I joke not it was like hugging an ice cube. The things I do for H.A.C.K. an old gal like me should be at home, all cosy by the log burner , knitting, watching telly and drinking endless cups of tea......mmmm..... ha ha, yeah who am I kidding....next time I will just shove a hot water bottle up my jumper.

But you know the dedication of the Saturday Kids Club is amazing, they turn out in all weathers, work extremely hard and have a good attitude to all the jobs that need doing. They are certainly a credit to youth today... Due to a bereavement Helen wasn't able to attend the Kids Club last Saturday, so I decided that after all the work was done, I would build a Desensitize course and handling techniques in the menage plus a load of fun...and fun it was, I think Sharon particularly enjoyed herself accompanied by Mouse.. Well done guys. Love Pam x x

PS please feel free to vote for H.A.C.K. animal.movementforgood.com ch.no 1025157 thank you, or see previous post x x

Our Fab Sanctuary

The H.A.C.K. Horse Sanctuary is a Rescue-Rehabilitation-Education Centre that is dedicated to the welfare of the horse.

Founded in March 1992 by Pamela Bluck it has grown from strength to strength into a successful small charity (no. 1025157). H.A.C.K. are also full welfare members of the National Equine Welfare Council, which means we have been fully inspected and passed the high criteria and standards that are required.

H.A.C.K. is unique in the fact that it is run entirely by volunteers who really are dedicated to the welfare of the horse. H.A.C.K. is fortunate in having Prof Derek Knottenbelt as advisor who has been of great support from the very beginning and also the late Graham Capper, law advisor and supporter, greatly missed.

H.A.C.K. also works within the community in many different ways from educational school visits, care home visits, Duke of Edinburgh awards, Saturday kids etc.
