NEW COURSES MIDLANDS

The midlands has had a revamp with the completion of current courses soon and an influx of new clients we have new courses and classes launching which are now live on the website.

Any new clients please book a course or message Adam and then existing clients please message Adam to ensure you book the correct course or class.

Puppy course - 17th August
Beginner retriever course - 18th August
Beginner spaniel course - 18th August
New spaniel class and retriever classes fortnightly for 2hrs.

Epic holiday yet again! You can see by the laughs that these holidays really are something special! 14 retrievers this time took to the ground in the Midlands from scotland to hampshire to northern ireland! We has so much fun stretching this amazing group of retrievers over 3 days, with group work, memories, distnace handling, blinds, water, obstacles and so much more! More highlights to come!

Congratulations to our Foundation Gundog class on completing their assessments today. Everyone has made great progress over the 8 week course and is ready to take their next steps in training. Our courses will restart next week 👍👍.

Cunningshot Gundogs hosted their first workshop in association with this weekend. A full day of retriever training with Emma and Adam at the ground in Brough. Nice to meet new people and new dogs and train in the sunshine. Thanks to for our training equipment look forward to more workshops over the summer

Three new workshops launched on the website tonight in the lovely in Skipton. We are very lucky to be able to use these fantastic, fully enclosed and accessible ground to run these workshop. Bookings are now open in the events section on the website.

Cunningshot Gundogs hosted a training day over the weekend for the Novia Scotia Duck Toller Reteivers. A nice opportunity to see the minority breed in action for a great day of training on land and water. Thanks to for our training equipment.

The rain finally stopped and the sun came out for our Spaniel Holiday this weekend. Three days of intense training for the handlers and their dogs covering hunting, retrieving and working together in a beating line. All the dogs came on and every left having learnt something new. We look forward to more holidays and workshops through the summer to prepare for the upcoming season.we would like to thank muntjac trading for there training equipment supplied for the holiday.

Well what a great weekend we had last weekend in the lovely Cumbria. It was a pleasure being asked to put a training weekend on for the CBRC (Chesepeake Bay Retriever Club). On the Saturday we did a training day for all age groups splitting them into different levels, what a great day and it stayed dry which is always a bonus. The Sunday saw the test day which Adam and Emma swapped from trainers to judges there were 3 testing sections for all the age groups and they didn’t fail to impress us as always. Well done to everyone that took part and everyone in the awards. Thanks again for a great weekend it’s always a pleasure to work with you guys to see new and old faces great weekend see you all on the next one.thanks to our sponsors Muntjac Trading for suppling the training equipment for this weekend

Announcement -

Emma is off on holiday from the 2nd April to the 11th April. She will not be responding to work messages and emails until she is back. If you need anything please contact Adam.

When Emma is back we go straight into the stalking show 13th and 14th April where we have a stand we would love to see as many of you as possible there.

Congratulations to Jon Mouncey who won the Open at the Working Clumber Society Test. We have been working with Jon and Breeze with some 1-1’s to polish off some things to swap her mindset from shoot season back to test season as well as some polishing of Jon’s handling when changing from hunting to retrieving and Jon’s hard work has obviously paid off. Congratulations to Jon and Breeze. They came away not only with a 1st place in the open but also best hunting dog of the day.

🐶 Exciting Announcement 🐶

Many of you will have seen Lucy and Emily at our events, workshops, training, game fairs etc as two of our most helpful helpers. Well after 2 and 1/2 years of training with Cunningshot we thought we should announce that Lucy will be officially shadowing Adam at a lot of the training events being hosted from now on. This will include, regular groups, workshops, events & holidays and of course the game fair which I could not have organised without her help this year. At this point Lucy is still learning and we will be giving more responsibilities within training scenarios as we feel she is ready with both mine and Adam’s support and guidance. We hope you will join us in welcoming Lucy more officially to Cunningshot.

2nd gundog holiday of the year over and out! 3 incredible days with puppies and adolescents at the stunning, safe and unbelievably kitted out

The ground in skipton can be hired out for personal use, pairs and groups and for trainers to hire.

For us the ground was the most amazing location and terrain for this holiday. We needed somewhere that was enclosed, dogs could safely be off lead and work through exercises. Retriever lanes, hunting areas, various jumps and also tea/coffee area and toilet was ideal for everything we needed.

Day 1:
We started with a meet and greet followed by a morning of obedience and steadiness to find out where our levels were at. We then spent the afternoon split into breed where the retrievers were put through their paces with steadiness and retrieves while the spaniels started with stop whistle and hunt patterns.

Day 2:
We started with advancing the obedience with circle time! Then working through recall past a line of dogs. The afternoon was another split breed session with retrievers and spaniels working through advancing from day 1 and learning more to work around other dogs. Followed by a pub dinner!

Day 3:
A much slower start to the morning owners and dogs were a bit sleepy! But we started with tea/coffee and cake and. Debrief with Q and A session. Followed by a joint group steadiness building on the first two days with more dogs able to carry out this off lead and upping the difficulty levels to include dummies being thrown around the dogs. We then split into the breeds again with retrievers working through how to structure walks and incorporate training and the spaniels working on retrieving. We then finished with a joint breed exercise with one spaniel hunting while their paired retriever heeled alongside. We were over the moon to see all spaniels off lead and a lot of retrievers able to heel off lead alongside the busy spaniels hunting.

Overall a challenging but unbelievably satisfying holiday to watch these young and adolescent dogs advance so much over the 3 days! We cannot wait to see you all over this year on regular sessions and on other holidays.
