International Dog Day

Only fair that I post my handsome boy today.

As a lot of you already know, Rocco does sometimes come to work with me. Helping me train your dogs. Whether that be working with reactive clients of all levels, general socialisation and even helping some of my clients who don’t have dogs working on their fears around larger breeds.

When I got Rocco my full intention was to have him be an ambassador for the lovely Rottweiler breed. Showing people that when trained correctly their true loyal and loving nature comes out and that’s exactly what we are achieving and will continue to do.

If anyone has a fear of dogs or needs to work on anything around a larger breed please do reach out and we will both be more than happy to help in a controlled environment 🫶🏼🐾

After a long break from socials due to holiday and a busy schedule I am back to posting all my Pupdates for you.

Starting off with the lovely XL Bully called Bronson. This handsome chap has had my helping hand on his socialisation, lead walking, some muzzle training due to the ban but most importantly he is a great ambassador for the breed showing people how soft, calm and well trained this breed really can be.

Full credit to his lovely owners Kathryn and Ashley for all their hard work raising such a well trained lovable boy 🐾

We are looking for a couple of casual people to join our team to cover team sickness , holidays and bits and bobs . The job does involve moving heavy items and working in a cold room as well as customer facing work. You need to love dogs and be able to work with our small team. Please pop in to talk to Katy to get more details.

Meet Rufus, the 17 month old Golden Retriever.

This handsome boy went to his forever home at 9 months old meaning he was already in that stubborn adolescence stage when his new owners got him.

Rufus has been struggling with a few unwanted behaviours but mainly, attention seeking, recall and overall excitement when outside the house.

We started by building his engagement with his owners and some obedience training before quickly moving on to introducing a solid place/bed command to help insure he has somewhere to settle.

We then introduced some recall games before heading out on a short walk to then work on his socialisation skills.

Overall I’m pleased to say Rufus made some substantial improvements throughout our session together and his lovely owners have been continuing his training on a daily basis.

It's Adder season. These venomous snakes are relatively rare in the UK but are more common in the South East with population pockets in places like Burnham Beaches and the odd sighting in Wendover Woods. I won't include a picture due to Ophidiophobia

Adders don't set out to hurt your dog but if disturbed then they may bite. Your dog will need to get to the vet following a bite - calmly walk or carry them to the car as soon as possible. You can take basic first aid steps to help following a bite.

These include

Wash with a Sterile Saline Pod

This is to flush and clean the site of the bite. It will help to remove dirt, make sure the bite is visible and help prevent contamination.

Cool the area with an ice pack.

Pop an ice pack over the area of the bite as it may help reduce pain and swelling. It may also help slow the spread of the venom.

Please check these are a part of your first aid kit but if not we have top up packs with an ice pack and a saline wash in the shop for £2.

Meet Bear the 3 year old Romanian rescue.

Reactivity can come in many forms - in Bear’s case it was fear based.

What had started as a very minor issue became a challenge when, on holiday in late 2023, he saw his owners physically attacked late at night by a man out with an uncontrolled dog. Bear was shielded from harm but the psychological impact on dog and owners became noticeable.

So Bear’s owners came to me for help with his reactivity and general training.

My plan of action here was to show Bear that not all ‘new people’ are to be feared. I needed to help him to cope in situations where he is nervous of or crowded by people he doesn't know. In turn I showed his owners how to manage Bear in these situations and (in doing so) their own anxiety.

I’m glad to say that by the end of our first session Bear had made a great improvement and was reacting far less to both people and dogs.

Now his owners have the right techniques under their belt the more they can continue to help Bear and slowly start to help build their own confidence back up.

Meet the lovely Morgan the 2 year old Border Collie,

As you may tell from the photos this lovely girl has come to me for some help with her reactivity.

Unfortunately we have very little history on Morgan other than the fact she’s spent the vast majority of her life in kennels with very little training or walks. She hasn’t really had any experiences the average dog her age would’ve had.

Despite being very well behaved in her new home and around her brother she is very reactive to any other dog regardless of how close they come to her.

In our session we very much threw her in the deep end in order to see exactly what the issue was. Due to having no previous training we started from scratch. First of all covering basic obedience and engagement work then highlighting to her owners what not to do when she reacts. We then covered how to correctly socialise her and when exactly to add in those rewards.

I’m delighted to say that after just one session the lovely Morgan had made a huge improvement, not only did she manage to stop barking but actually managed to be in relatively close proximity to other dogs playing and calm herself down without any cue

Later that day I even got an amazing update after her evening walk 💪🏼

Meet Luna, the German Shepherd

This lovely girls owners have come to me for some obedience and reactivity training.

When people here the phrase “reactive” they automatically presume an aggressive dog which most of the time is completely wrong. Reactivity can be due to a number of reasons from, lack of socialisation, fear or frustration.

In Luna’s case she is only reactive when on a lead and this is simply due to needing a little more training and her becoming frustrated.

With Luna we have gone back to basics with her obedience training including some heel work, engagement but mainly focusing on her socialisation skills.

This girl already has a fantastic foundation and I don’t doubt that she will overcome this little hurdle in no time.

Snoozy Saturday ft.

A very belated first 2024 post from me.

The past two months I have been rather swamped, although I wouldn’t have it any other way. From being inundated with XL Bully’s preparing for the ban, to tonnes of new clients and several rescue cases.

My very delayed New Year’s resolution will be to share far more of my clients and their stories with you all as well as creating some videos.

For all my clients struggling with groomers due to the ban I cannot recommend Premier Paws Dog Grooming enough. 🐾

Based in Aylesbury.

🎉 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 🎉
Thrilled to announce, I will be continuing to offer a 1:1 personalised grooming service for ‘XL bully’ dogs.

I am equipped and fully insured to groom your dogs without the need for a muzzle (unless necessary)

Mcgrumpy and Snuffles pet shop, located on site too, also welcomes Bully’s, however they do demand smooches! 😍

HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome! 👋

My name is Clara, founder of The Muzzle Movement and I spend my time educating the public on responsible muzzle use in the hope that we can help break down the stigma associated with muzzled dogs...
..and show the world that muzzled dogs can and do live fulfilled and happy lives! 🥰

There are lots of preconceptions about dogs in muzzles;

- They are somehow ‘bad dogs’ or ‘need training

- They are being subjected to a negative experience by being ‘forced’ to wear a muzzle

- Their guardians are somehow irresponsible or cruel.

All of which is FALSE! 😁 and I hope that our page can help you see muzzles from a different point of view, allowing you to feel empathy and compassion for muzzled dogs and their guardians 💗

Because muzzled dogs are still good dogs!!

Meet Bronson the 1 year old XL Bully

This handsome chaps owners have come to me for some help with Bronson’s overall training such as lead walking, socialisation and general engagement.

We started by going back to basics, working on his commands and engagement. During the adolescence phase it’s very common for dogs to test the boundaries and want to not listen.

Unfortunately with the impending ban owners like Bronson’s will be under even more scrutiny than before so they’ve been working incredibly hard behind closed doors with all sorts of training to ensure they do everything possible to keep their boy safe.

How is this happening?!

Sharing in the hope that someone can provide a forever home 🐾

Edit . We have had home offers so confident we can save him

We have been contacted about this xl bullie boy. He’s 4 months old and is doubly incontinent. As you all know, we specialise in disabled dogs and would usually throw this lad a life line in a heart beat but we can’t legally rehome him after 31st December.

We have agreed to post him up to see if we can generate any interest of a forever home. We have until 27th when he will be put to sleep.

This boy wears nappies as he can not control his bowels or bladder and has back end weakness.

If anyone is interested in rehoming him please be aware you’ll have to go through the exemption process which we will pay for. Please also be aware we can’t legally offer rescue back up so we are not able to take this dog back . It would need to be a forever home as the only alternative would be death as ownership can not be transferred.

Please apply via the website www.breedsinneed.uk and put reference to incontinent xl.

Thank you

Just a heads up for any clients in this area. Please be vigilant and if you’re worried call your vets right away 🐾

Meet the little beauty that is 3 year old Luna.

Like all bullies I have the pleasure of training she is full of nothing but love.

This gorgeous girl and her owner booked in for 121 muzzle training to ensure she’s comfortable before the ban comes into play.

After just 1 hour I’m incredibly happy to say she fully accepted the muzzle being fitted and even enjoyed a walk in it too.

Thankfully Luna will continue to stay happy and comfortable and enjoy her walks just as much as before despite these new regulations 💪🏼🐾

• FIREWORKS •

Fireworks, the hot topic amongst all pet owners and animal lovers the past few weeks.

Let’s have a very frank conversation about them.

The questions I have are these. Are you doing enough? Have you reached out for help or are you letting your pet suffer because you’ve not taken responsibility?

Are they harmful for wildlife, yes absolutely they can be. Not only can the loud bangs send animals into shock, scare them out of their safe spaces and cause massive stress to all animals, wild or not. The debris can also be harmful if ingested.

Do I believe that they should sell and use low sound or noise free ones. Yes of course I do.

However, as dog owners we have a duty of care to our furry friends to insure they are happy and healthy.

Anxiety and nerves can be a very big problem for our dogs, from separation anxiety, general nervousness or lacking in confidence. All of these things can not only cause behavioural problems but they prevent your dog from living a happy carefree life.

As a dog owner there are plenty of things you can do to prepare your dogs for this time of the year.

Yes there are the odd exceptions where this is harder to deal with such a medical issues or if you have a rescue but for the vast majority of the time there is no exception.

Reach out for help if you’re suffering. Don’t let your dogs suffer because you don’t know what to do.

Here to help both you and your four legged friends

Meet Rafael, the 3 year old Pyrenean Mountain Dog

After receiving such a glowing review from his owner this week it’s about time i tell you about this handsome chap.

Raf is the most gentle giant you could possibly come across, inside the home and around dogs he knows he is fantastic, however recently that changed.

Despite being fantastically socialised he had recently become lead reactive. To him it didn’t matter whether that be a person or another dog, both would get the same reaction of growling/barking and attempting to lunge towards them.

Fast forward to the day of our session. First thing was to start work on his engagement, this is the foundation for any sort of training.

Once we had covered that it was straight to the walk. Starting from scratch and re-socialising him in two busy environments. One with tonnes of people and the second being a park full of dogs to teach him how to be neutral in these situations.

The aim is to allow him to be the one to disengage and choose not to react at which point we can reward that behaviour.

After our session we had a major breakthrough not only was he in close proximity to both his triggers but he continued to disengage and not react.

Fast forward several weeks and I’ve had the best news. Rafael and his owners are all back to enjoying their walks and continuing to be sociable with zero reactions 👏🏻🐾

31/10/2023

It’s now been confirmed, the day we’ve all been dreading. The XL Bully Ban will come into effect as of 31st December.

For all my clients past, present and future I am still running my £10 muzzle training sessions. I have also got a contact for custom fit muzzles if anyone is in need.

I will go through the document released at some point this week to confirm exactly what needs to be done going forward and of course as always I will be here to support every one of you and your dogs going forward.

Meet Elsie the Pug

I’ve been working with this pretty little girl since July just before her 1st birthday.

Elsie and her owner have come to me for some help with her reactivity and confidence. Poor little Elsie was rather nervous around new people and would become anxious in busy and noisy environments around both people and some dogs.

In our sessions we’ve started from scratch with her socialisation, insuring we are exposing her to all sorts of environments, sounds and situations.

As well as this we’ve done a lot of confidence boosting activities and exposure in busy places.

I’m happy to say so far she’s made tonnes of progress and we’ve even managed to get her walking through busy high streets, settling outside cafes with minimal barking and she will now even allow me to give her a fuss 👏🏻

Marley Monday

Meet Marley the Labrador. This handsome little boy came to me at 13 weeks old for some puppy training.

Being first time owners, Marley’s owners wanted some help to ensure they were doing everything right.

In our session we covered all of the basics including socialisation, crate training, lead walking, recall and some basic commands.

Marley is already on his way to being the perfect pup and as you can see he just loves a cuddle, perfect payment after all his hard work

11/10/2023

I’d like to share this for all to see.

With everything going on regarding the XL ban it’s important that all owners of all breeds take note of what’s highlighted in this video as many more of you could be effected.

Please do take the time to watch and if anyone has any worries or queries I’m always here to help 🐾

Tiger Tuesday 🐯

Meet Tiger the 18 month old Bully.

This handsome boy has come to me after seeing my special offer for muzzle sessions.

As well as some muzzle training, Tiger also needed some help with his leading walking & excitement levels. At just 18 months old he is still very much in his adolescence stage so can still become easily distracted.

On our first session we started with an hours worth of muzzle training. With the new laws coming in it’s super important that we desensitise him to insure he is not only comfortable but happy wearing the muzzle. This clever chap picked it up super quickly and was very enthusiastic.

Our second session we went back to basics with some socialising and lead walking.

I must give credit where it’s due to Tigers owners as this boy is one of the best socialised dogs I’ve worked with.

23/09/2023

Aimme is here to give tips on muzzle training for anyone who needs to get started.
