Just got to figure a way out to get flea to do the paddling 😄
Class reunion tonight in moosie's meadow enjoying the pond ❤️
Splashy zoomies in moosies meadow/water park 🤣😜😜
Practising the hanky trick with Flea, great when you get a cold and live alone 🤣🤣🤣 quite challenging to do trick and film though.
I love doing the videos to watch how focused flea is ###x
Joe the giant, lolloping to the finish line, so hairy it's impossible to find the collar 🤣
Another tip for recall is to always make it easy for your dog to start with, slowly adding recall from more challenging environments.
Always good to use a long line ( must be in a harness, not a collar) when you add challenges so you can maintain control of the situation whilst giving your dog more freedom.
Some dogs will be brilliant others may take much more work and with some dogs you may always have to pick the times it's safe to let them off.
If you have a dog with high prey drive or easily spooked dogs you always have to be very careful.
Recall depends on many things, the breed, the dogs personality, the owners putting in the work. If you have a rescue dog, the life they previously lived and any abuse they may have received will potentially effect your recall.
Don't set your dogs up to fail, set them up to succeed. Make them want to work with you, make your walk about you and your dog. The more you interact with them on a walk the more they are likely to interact with you and ignore other things.
More cheating at musical chairs, Emma using a small child to cheat 🤣🤣🤣
Hence me telling Megan to sit on small child 🤣
Honestly you lot 🤣🤣
Some cheating going in in musical chairs 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Naughty Julie!!!!
Dotty the rescue greyhound ❤️❤️❤️ possibly the most beautiful I have ever seen x I love her 😍
Very fast but sit is rarely a greyhound thing but she did set a good time 😁 sit is not something I would ever insist on with this breed unless they offer the behaviour themselves.
Whe teaching recall when you call your dog and they start to come to you always let them know they are doing the right thing. Lots of happiness in your voice letting them know they are doing the right thing, use good dogs or silly voices just make it exciting to rush back.
Use body language, getting down low or bending forward arms out and open to encourage them to you.
Every thing about recall needs to positive.
If you have space run away from them as they start to come making it more fun to chase you.
Pansy flying on the recall 😁 what an amazing little rescue dog, I can see how hard you work, she is a joy ❤️
Really important thing for recall is a clear command for recall, here or come.......I see a lot of people just keep calling the dogs name and not telling them what you want. Or saying 3 or 4 different things.
I personally love the whistle, it's clear consistent sound that doesn't betray our emotions. If you attach it to your dog lead you will never forget it 😁
When you call them have a confident fun voice, make them want to run to you.
If you sound unenthusiastic and boring it is unlikely you've dog will want to come.
Pharaoh on one of his recall attempts. For this game Dogs have the be called past the finish line, they need to sit while lead is put on, and then the owner has to put arm up to stop the clock. Sounds easy 🤣🤣
It's a good fun game to play and helps recall, the sit and the collar grab.
I always urge people to hold or touch the collar whenever they recall their dogs so it becomes normal to grab the collar.
Some owners may only grab the collar when they are frustrated or angry, dogs learn quickly to avoid that collar grab. And can become fearful of the grab. It is important to me that I know I can grab my dogs collar at any point and she won't shy away from ii.
It's a very important tool, so please practice, call them, touch collar, reward in what ever way you want and let them go again .
Cooper showing how to do an emergency stop/distance sit. Well done cooper and Sarah 😬
Bertie doing stick em up then getting shot, such a showman 😁😁😁
Another thing that can keep your dogs entertained, especially if they like digging, is to put a sand pit in your garden. Flea loves to dig in the sand.
You could do a sand pit, paddling pool, ball pit, lots of things to make your garden more fun for your dog and get them to dig in the sand instead of your flower beds 😁
A little video of scatter feeding, a good way to feed your dog their dinner. It adds interest to their day, sniffing, foraging and finding.
So many people say they can't tire their puppies out. When they are under a year you have to be careful as their bones aren't formed. So too much exercise, or continuous ball throwing can have a bad effect on their bodies. I am not keen on continuous ball throwing, I use a ball occasionally but flea waits till I throw it, usually into long grass or water, then when I tell her she goes to find it, a much better use of the ball, than constant throwing.
I find it better to use calming things to entertain puppies. Scatter feeding enriches their day, using more of their senses, and not damaging their joints.
When flea was a puppy and I could see was going into bitey volocaraptor mode, I used to throw food out for her to find. She would spend 10 to 15 minutes looking for the food then have a little sleep.
Try it
great fun for my old boy moose too as he can't walk far now, so this adds interest to his day with out stressing his achey old bones
Here are the cygnets enjoying the swan food gift from Lesley 😁❤️
Heather and Barney practicing off lead with moving distractions and putting the leave command to good use. Barney has done so well in classes and does enjoy a toy so this was brilliant progress
Practising off lead walking with moving distractions. This is the first attempt!
Pippa did incredibly well. When she started classes 9 months ago she was wild! Jill has put a lot of work into this crazy cockapoo and it is paying off.
Loose lead walking and ignoring distractions in gold class in my field, looking good ❤️
Worried moose is coming to the end of his life, even arranged for a cremation privately so he doesn't go in the freezer at vets cos he hates the cold.
Then today hes like a puppy 😁
Im pretty sure that we have had our last holiday together 😓
