New play toy left by the scaffolders. Puppies just love it and have had hours of fun. All microchipped yesterday and vet checked and all passed with flying colours. Best thing about this hot weather is that they are all housetrained - just a few accidents overnight but during the day the kennel stays in immaculate condition. This really has been the easiest litter ever. Please pm

And they’re away! 2 weeks 2 days old but this is a big litter so starting them early on some full fat goats’ milk. First worming as well

Puppies have arrived today starting at 2.20am and finishing about 6am. Pax was scanned and I was expecting 8 pups but she has managed to produce 10! 7 dogs and 3 bi***es - all black but they will all carry the chocolate gene and so will be of interest in the choclate world. This is a large litter - the smallest pup was just under 400g (about 14ozs) and most were over 450g (about 1lb) with the largest dog pup weighing in at 465g (just over 1lb 2ozs) so poor Pax had over 10lbs of puppies inside her and she looked very relieved to be a bit lighter now. All the puppies are doing well and feeding well. Please pm me if you would like more details - details of the sire and dam are on my face book page below. I'm off to bed!

Some good news! Killyrudden Blue Stocking (Pax) was scanned yesterday and has approximately 8 good sized pups inside. She has been mated to FTCH Westerkames Rigline of Brogdenview who has qualified for the last 2 IGL Retriever championships and obtained a DOM in 2021. I have used this dog to extend the working chocolate gene pool which needs doing because I'm seeing the same chocolate stud dogs being used consistently and new blood needs to be introduced - so all the puppies are likely to be black but all will carry the chocolate gene. I've seen some of the pups that Rig has produced and really like what I see.

Both sire and dam are extensively health tested with current clear eye certificates.

Porcus passed his first eye test on 4th Feb 2023 and he has also been tested clear for PRA, CNM, EIC, Sd2, HNPK, STGD & MCD, so now he is all set up for hips and elbows to be done in June.

Now hoping to extent the chocolate gene pool by breeding her to a black FTCH. She should be in season early April. All the pups would be black but will carry the chocolate gene. Fingers crossed all goes well.

River is listening to the cricket! So pleased with this litter - they’re growing well and really even in size. Pups are 11 days old and just starting to walk. Some black puppies yet to be spoken for. River is just the best of mothers

Sunday 5th June 2022 Killyrudden Blue Stocking (Pax) has won the Dove Valley WGC novice retriever walked-up working test held at the Cubley Estate

Many thanks to all those involved - Mr & Mrs Leigh and Shane Wood, the judges and all the helpers and the club for making my day special. I left home in Cumbria at 5.15am leaving beautiful blue skies, lots of sunchine with the prospect of a really hot day. When I arrived at Cubley, it was raining hard and so cold and I was completely inappropriately dressed for this weather. Scenting conditions were difficult and I think it helped that Pax was an older novice dog with more experience under her belt but she rose to the occasion and did me proud.

Thank you Skinners for the dog food voucher and thank you Twicebrewed Twines for the dummy and lead. This was only Pax's 3rd working test!
