360 Degrees Outdoor Enabling journeys of growth and discovery in Scotland’s wild places

We are a small company, based on the edge of the Southern Highlands, whose aim is to help people get out and about and enjoy themselves in the wild, and not so wild, places of Scotland. With over 30 years experience of having fun outdoors ourselves, we are well placed to help you make the most of your time, whatever your plans and ambitions. Young
The main focus of our work is on helping young peo

ple 'find their feet’ in the outdoors, especially young people who might not otherwise get the opportunity to visit and explore some of the fantastic places that exist in Scotland beyond the margins of our cities. These days, a growing body of evidence is confirming what many of us have long believed: that the incredible multi-sensory experience of being active outdoors confers huge benefits on young people, both health-wise and in terms of their personal and social development. We’re constantly looking for new ways to encourage young people to engage with their environment, so visit our website at www.360degreesoutdoor.co.uk to find out more.

…and ‘Old'
However, we’re not just interested in young people - we’re keen to help anyone, of whatever age, get outside and have fun. Whether you’re simply looking for someone to ensure a family outing up Ben Nevis or one of Scotland’s other peaks goes smoothly, or looking for some help to prepare for a 3 Peaks Challenge, we are happy to help. Scotland’s mountains are fantastic places - living, changing landscapes: sometimes bathed in sunshine; swathed in atmospheric strands of mist at others. We would be delighted to help you explore this wonderful landscape, with its varied plant and animal life, its rich history and culture. Above all, we are committed to ensuring that your journey is a safe one, giving you an experience that will leave you with positive memories and a desire to come back and explore more of this wonderful land

Treating myself on the occasion of my finishing up at SiMY, 25 years after setting that particular ball rolling. If you want to play ‘guess the treat’, you can work through pictures 1-4, or just head straight to 4 if that’s how you roll!
In reality, I’m not quite done with SiMY, as I’ve agreed to do some freelance sessions to keep the outdoor activities programme going, until they sort out my replacement.

This wee fella came for an impromptu visit to the garden last week - presumably trying out his wings and didn’t see the chicken wire fence. I popped him somewhere safe so that he could reevaluate his technique in safety, before he hopped off to the grass for more flight practice!

A birthday outing to the Cairngorms for my big sister came to a juddering halt on the A9 this morning, leading to a ‘planes, trains and automobiles’ journey home for the rest of the group while I waited for a lift back to Kirkie via tow truck for me and the van.
Once we regrouped from our various side quests, we made the best of it with a wee wander round Loch Ardinning and some birthday cake and bubbles to celebrate my sister officially becoming an ‘old biddy’ 😂

First time up in Glen Finglas since the 2001 foot and mouth outbreak - amazing to see how much has changed since then, with the Woodland Trust managing it for environmental regeneration, rather than sheep farming. The climb at the end of the glen hasn’t gotten any shorter mind…

A wee bit of news to share: I am going to be finishing up at SiMY at the end of August. I am not retiring yet, but Cat has an exciting new job lined up which is going to require her to travel more than in the past, so I’m going to be a stay at home ‘dog dad’ at least until we see how Cat’s work pattern takes shape.
In order that the kids don’t miss out, I have offered to stay involved with the mini-adventures / climbing side of SiMY until they find an updated version of me: Neil 2.0 as it were, so there will still be opportunities for some of the young people to benefit from my wit and charm for the time being :-D

New seat covers for the van - not entirely convinced, as the term ‘fits Ford Tourneo’ is being used in the broadest possible sense. However, Mrs P likes the bright pattern, so we’ve ticked the ‘happy wife’ box at least!
