Hi folks we’ve just had a lovely circular walk from Thornton Hough to Brimstage. Took us 3.5 hours, we weren’t in any hurry we were following a guided walk from a book I recently purchased. Everything progressed fine until we came to a kissing gate that according to the book we had to go through and follow a path along the sitôt a field, except the farmer had put his young cows with their babies in the field, I had 5 dogs so wasn’t going to put them or the cows abd us in danger so we had to find another way. I noticed that ther were several “estate roads” so we braved an extremely fast road with.no pavement until we reached the road shown - unfortunately it was gated but we were not going to put any of us at risk, so there we were me 72 climbing over a fence my friend followed the dogs fitted under the gate, we figured we wouldn’t be doing any harm as the book showed that we had to meet up with the path further along
All went well until we met a group of women my friend asked the way but this ‘lady’ made us feel like serfs and that this is private land so are all the roads and you needed a pass to walk them though eventually she pointed out a public bridleway which we followed until we came to some cottages
In one of the gardens a gentleman very kindly told us that the roads we were following came out onto that same fast road but if we went back a little and took the footpath that led over 3 fields that came out nearer Thornton hough and onto a road with a pavement.
We returned to our vehicle safely and glad we had had a good walk apart from a “stuck up” woman who upset me with her attitude but the man in the garden was so nice and polite and helpful we had a good day.
I would like to say to the gamekeepers of Leverhulme estates and his lordship himself that we are really sorry we trespassed on your land we only did for safety, we did no harm and left no litter.
I would like to say to the books writer please get facts/directions right .
