Welcome to the Upton Hydrotherapy page!
You can find us at the Upton branch of Wirral Vets based in Upton, Wirral!

Hydrotherapy can be a great addition to many rehabilitation plans for a variety of conditions including:

🐾 Hip replacements
🦴Cruciate repairs
🐾 Patella luxation corrections
🦴 Spinal surgeries
🐾 Hip dysplasia
🦴 Elbow dysplasia
🐾 Weakness in hindlimbs
🦴 Osteoarthritis management
🐾 Muscle wastage

Hydrotherapy is also a great tool to increase fitness, build muscle and aid weight loss!

The underwater treadmill is a safe and enjoyable way for your pet to exercise with reduced weight bearing to take the pressure off their joints. The water is maintained at a warm temperature which can reduce tissue swelling, improve circulation and make the water more appealing!
The resistance of the water aids muscle building and the water height can be adjusted to focus on different muscle groups.

Current opening times (hydrotherapy unit only) Tuesday 14:00-18:30
Thursday 09:00 - 18:00

Meet Hugo! He came to us after orthopaedic surgery to help aid his recovery. Although not his favourite hobby at first, he soon took to it and with help from his parents, he is able to get back to normal pup life! Hugo’s happy face and possibly the longest tongue in the world say it all! Well done H 🥳

⭐️⭐️ Announcement time ⭐️⭐️

As many of you are aware, I will be leaving Upton vets and hydrotherapy in a couple of weeks. My last day is Friday 8th October. I will be very sad to say goodbye but it’s time for the next adventure. I have very little availability between now then then, but if you don’t have an appointment and would like to come in before I go, just let me know.

The wonderful Leanne will be taking over when I go, and many of you will have met her before. Due to staff shortages once I leave, and demand for veterinary care at the moment, the hours available for hydrotherapy will be slightly reduced. To begin with, we will be limited to Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evenings. At the moment, the priority is to ensure all current clients can get appointments booked, so we will be unable to take on new clients for the next few weeks. There is a waiting list for new clients so if you would like to be added to this, please let us know.

Thank you to all of you for being the most amazing clients and having the most lovely dogs. They have been such a joy to have in and I will miss each and every single one of them.

Natasha

Today is the day we’re letting all clients back into the consult and hydrotherapy rooms 🥳

A polite reminder that all clients must be wearing their masks - my little piglet Margaux is demonstrating how to wear them properly here 😷

Apart from a few slots available tomorrow, I don’t have any appointments available until Tuesday 20th July. I will be on annual leave next week, and all messaged received in this time will be responded to once I’m back. See you all soon 😁

🌟 I have some great news to announce! 🌟

From 5th July we will be allowing clients back into the practice so you will be able to stay and watch your dog's hydrotherapy session!
We need to be mindful that Covid is still here and is not going anywhere soon so will need to continue to keep each other safe. We will be in the room together for approximately 30 minutes so there are some rules that we need to abide by.

🔸Only one person to come in for each appointment
🔸Sanitise hands when entering the practice (there is a touch free hand sanitising station at reception).
🔸Masks must be worn at all times – if you forget yours then just let me know as I will be able to provide you with one.
🔸Socially distance in the room – the hydrotherapy room is big enough for us to do this
🔸No clients allowed in to the practice if showing any symptoms of COVID-19
I will be sanitising the room and cleaning all touch points after each session to keep the room as safe as possible.
🔸Some dogs are a lot splashier than others so the room can get a little wet – make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear.

I know most of you are eager to come in and watch your dog's hydrotherapy session, but it is also completely optional. If you do not feel comfortable coming in, or even if you’d like to use the time to nip to the shops or pick the kids up from school then this is absolutely fine. Please just make sure you are back in time for the end of the session to avoid the next appointment being delayed.

I would also like to say a massive thank you to all of you for being so patient and considerate during this unfamiliar time. Throughout the pandemic, the practice and the staff has been faced with many rude and unkind clients, but you have all been so lovely and understanding. I’m very excited to have you all back in so you can see the hard work that we’ve been doing over the past 12 months. This is the first-time clients have been allowed in since March 2020 so please bear with us if we have to iron out a few creases.

I will be on annual leave from 12th to 18th July so there’ll be no appointments during that week.

If you have any questions or concerns about how things will be changing, then please just drop me a message.

Getting my steps in too because Sully walks 10x better in the treadmill if I pop a little harness on him and pretend we’re going for a walk. What a little cutie.

Always big smiles from Carmine 😁😁 This lovely boy suffers from a cruciate rupture, and we have tried conservative management instead of surgery. It has worked very well for Carmine! He no longer limps and is able to enjoy life to the fullest 💙

Our lovely Boris 💙 this lovely lab has had both hips replaced and suffers with tendon laxity around his patella. He comes regularly so that we can maintain his strength and keep the joints from having to do so much work. He also loves a little sing while he’s waiting for the water to fill 😂

Frankie is the perfect example of how dogs are truly amazing. This poor little lady suffers with hip dysplasia but has always been so happy and full of life. Last autumn she was unfortunately diagnosed with a cancerous tumour that needed to be surgically removed. Earlier this year, she then suffered with a really nasty eye ulcer that has taken months to heal. She’s been to countless vet appointments, had lots of poking and prodding, surgery, medication and daily eye drops. But she still manages to come in with a waggy tail, a big sloppy kiss and still wants to sit on my knee for a cuddle 😘😘
