It’s Waves Workit Wednesday time !!
As you know this week has been a super busy week with the excitement of being able to use our new reception and consulting side of our building but to add to the excitement we were delighted to welcome our new permanent vet Maggie!!!!!

Obviously Blu took this opportunity for cuddles and a chat with the lovely Maggie

🐶Hi Maggie, welcome to Team Wave, first question, you have moved down from Buckinghamshire, so why Cornwall?
🧑‍⚕️Hi Blu, it’s very nice to meet you. Well Cornwall, what’s not to love! The beaches are beautiful, I love the sound of the sea 🌊 and there’s excellent coffee shops everywhere! ☕️

🐶Did you bring any friends for me to play with?
🧑‍⚕️My dog Ned (also know as noodle to his pals)🐕 has moved here with me. He’s a real Heinz 57 his dad is a whippet x collie and his mum is a bedlington x cocker spaniel. He also loves the sea.

🐶I love the sea too, I’ve just learnt to swim, I can take him to my favourite beaches. 😀 Next question, what’s your favourite colour?
🧑‍⚕️It’s got to be a lovely green 💚

WOW WHAT A NIGHT!!!
A massive thank you for everyone who came out last night to support us, we really hope you had as much fun as we did!

Congratulations to the winners Blake 7, with their prizes from SaltBar at Saltbox and Kernow Springs. Wood fired hot tub sales & Eco spa rentals.

2nd place was human friends with their prize from The Vine - An Gwinbrenn

And congratulations to the sound of music for taking the best prize of the night, the wooden spoons 🥄

The raffle was a great success and we thank everyone for such generous donations and taking part.

We raised over £250 last night and add that to the total from our donations given in the last few week our current grand total is £652!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤯

This week Waves Workit Wednesday with Blu is a bit sad 😢

Our lovely New Zealander Ellen is leaving us today 😭

🐶Why are you leaving us?
🧑‍⚕️ I was only meant to be here until Christmas but loved it so much I stayed a bit longer. However it’s time for me to continue my overseas adventure.

🐶What have you enjoyed most at Wave?
🧑‍⚕️Definitely meeting all the lovely patients 🐶😺🐰

🐶What will you miss most about us, apart from me 😂?
🧑‍⚕️ That’s a hard one 🤔 I think it will be all the nurses, they have all been so lovely to me.

🐶What’s next?
🧑‍⚕️Next for me is sun, surf and Finland ☀️🏄‍♀️🇫🇮 Oh and also Quiz night tomorrow I am so excited to join in with the fun 🤩

Waves Workit Wednesday with Blu 🌊🐶

It’s the last Wednesday in May and Blu finally caught up with Becky our head nurse.

🐶 Hello Becky 🐶
🧑‍⚕️ Hello Blu, you are getting such a big boy I’m not sure how much longer we can all pick you up.

🐶You are Waves original RVN and have been with us practically from the start so nearly 4 years. When are you getting your wave tattoo making you a Waver for life? 😂
🧑‍⚕️😂it’s my summer plan! Although already a waver for life….. where else would I go! 😂

🐶 So Becky you and Ian are off to vaccinate and neuter the street dogs in Sri Lanka in October, that’s so exciting are you looking forward to it?
🧑‍⚕️Yes, I’m so looking forward to it, I’ve never done anything like this before so it’s going to be a real adventure.

🐶There are an estimated 1-3 million roaming street dogs. SO how many are you going to come home with?😂
🧑‍⚕️It’s going to be so hard especially if I fall in love with one but I am not planning to bring any home. I already have 2 dogs and a cat so my house is pretty full.

🐶 Ok serious question, if you took me for a walk where would we go?
🧑‍⚕️Easy, we would go to Respryn near Lanhydrock. I will take you when the bluebells are out as that’s the best time to visit it.

🐶Sounds fun, Lastly the most important question. What do you think I will weigh on my 1st birthday.
🧑‍⚕️I don’t think you will be fully grown by your birthday so I think you will be 23.5kg

This October Ian and Becky will be heading off to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks to volunteer at as part of their neutering and vaccination campaign.

As part of their fundraising we will hosting a few events throughout the year starting with a quiz night (more details to follow very soon)

We will also be having a practice open day later in the year and suggestions of a bingo night are also on the agenda.
During these events we will also be running some raffles so that’s where we are about to ask for something from you 🙏

We are asking our wonderful fellow business owners if anyone would like to donate to our raffle, please?
They don’t have to be big, maybe a voucher for a free drink, meal, a small gift or voucher for your shop?

This week Blu caught up with our newest RVN Ella in the sunshine with Matilda 🚑

🐶 Hi Ella, you came to work at Wave at the start of the year. How are you finding it and what’s is the best thing about being a Waver?
🧑‍⚕️ Hi Blu, I hope you are being a good boy and not chewing everything? I am really enjoying being a Waver, thank you. Everyone (staff, clients and pets) have been so nice and have welcomed me into the Wave Vets world. The best thing about being a Waver is everyone has such a good sense of humour, we all genuinely get on and work well as a team but as have fun while doing it.

🐶 That’s great to hear. When you spend 40+hrs a week with people is really important you enjoy it. How long have you been a vet nurse for?
🧑‍⚕️ I qualified nearly 2 years ago now but I’ve been nursing since I was 21.

🐶Cats or dog? 🐱 🐶
🧑‍⚕️ Sorry Blu it’s cats 🐱😂

🐶 Let’s move onto my favourite topic. Food 🤤 what’s your favourite ice cream flavour?
🧑‍⚕️ Easy, vanilla with little fudge pieces. 🍦

🐶Final question. On my first birthday who much do you think I will weigh?
🧑‍⚕️ I think you will be 24kgs.

Waves Workit Wednesday!

Blu is continuing his chats with the nurses to celebrate May being Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month.

This week he caught up with Lucy checking out our new office/staff space after she finished suturing a lump removal surgery on Bella.

🐶Hi Lucy, look at this lovely space up here, I’m very excited so our new staff area. 😁 let me start with how did your stitch up go and is that your most favourite part of the job?
🧑‍⚕️Hi Blu 👋 Yes I really enjoy surgical nursing and I am developing my suturing skills.

🐶How long have you been veterinary nursing for?
🧑‍⚕️I qualified in 2005 but I have been working in veterinary practices since 2000.

🐶When you are not at work, where would your dream holiday destination be?
🧑‍⚕️Just somewhere warm and quiet would do me for a few weeks.

🐶As a Labrador I love food so, what is your favourite kitchen utensil?
🧑‍⚕️My husband, as he does all the cooking 😂👨‍🍳then very closely followed by the air fryer!

🐶And lastly the most important question… what do you think I will weigh on my 1st birthday?
🧑‍⚕️I’m going with 28.5kg.

Yes it’s Wednesday so it’s time for another Waves Workit Wednesday with Blu

May is Veterinary Nurse awareness month so what better way to celebrate than for Blu having a cuddle, kisses and a chat with all his favourite RVNs.

First up is Ruth, and Blu had a lot of important questions that he’s been desperate to ask her.

🐶 how long have you been veterinary nursing for?
🧑‍⚕️13 years.

🐶 what’s your special nursing interest?
🧑‍⚕️anything to do with teeth 🦷

🐶what’s your favourite dog breed?
🧑‍⚕️German Shepherd.

🐶favourite treat, mine is the jar of gravy bones at reception.
🧑‍⚕️Anything with mint chocolate, not for doggies though 😂

🐶If you were to take me on a long walk where would you take me.
🧑‍⚕️We would go to Ponsmill, for a long walk in the woods with a beautiful river to splash in.

🐶Lastly and most importantly, what do you think I will weigh on my first birthday?🎂
🧑‍⚕️looking at your legs I think you will be quite tall so I’m going to say 29.7kg

💙Waves Workit Wednesday with Blu. 🐶

Blu was super excited this week for Harrison to show him our NEW & SHINY ULTRASOUND MACHINE!!!

This is the Rolls-Royce of ultrasound machines and everyone is so excited to use it, even Ian 😂

We use the ultrasound scanner on a daily basis in the practice to monitor and diagnose all sorts of conditions with your pets internal organs.

What makes this one so special, is that when Harrison scans a heart he can see the blood flow swoosh across the screen in beautiful reds and blues which luckily for the patients he knows exactly what that means!

As you know Harrison’s specialist subject is hearts❤️ 💙💚💛 and he’s nearly completed his post graduate cardiology certificate.

Early diagnosis of heart disease can significantly improve the outcome for the patients and we're really proud to be able to offer such a high level of in house investigations for all our Wavers.

Symptoms of heart disease can include:

-Heart murmurs
-Coughing, particularly at night
-Reduced exercise tolerance
-Fast breathing
-Lethargy
-Weight loss
-Collapsing or fainting
-Swollen abdomen
-Irregular heart beating

Heart scans usually don't require sedation, we just need patients to stay with us for the morning for lots of treats and cuddles whilst we scan their heart!

Waves Workit Wednesday with Blu

This week Blu got to meet the other baby of Wave vets.

Charlotte popped in with her gorgeous daughter to say Hi and have puppy cuddles. 👋 🐶 💙

Blu was also keen to know when Charlotte can come back to play with us as we have all missed her very much.

He is very happy to report that Charlotte will be back on Wednesdays and Fridays from 19th June!!!!

Meet our newest addition to the Wave Vets family, Blu!

Each week Blu will be checking in with the Wave team and sharing what he’s been up to and who he’s been meeting.

First stop was to pop next door and see how James the builder has been getting on with the Big Wave Project.

Blu can report that progress is going well and walls are being put up this week which is very exciting to see how our new waiting room and consultation rooms take shape 😁

You will probably see Blu around town and out and about so stop to say Hi and have some puppy cuddles 🥰

This year we will be closed for the FULL Easter bank holiday weekend.

Beacon Vet Care in Summercourt (next to Clive Mitchell cycles) will be there to care for all your emergencies and urgent care for the entire time we can’t.

In an emergency please either call us on 01208 812099 and listen to the answer phone message
OR call Beacon direct 01872 890100 and press option 1 for emergencies.

For any repeat medication please contact us by Tuesday 26th March to ensure we can have them ready to collect by Thursday 28th March before the long weekend.

We will be back on Tuesday 2nd April but please bear in mind our phoneline will be busy so can all non-urgent calls be made after 10am please.
