Claire and her team have been caring for and working with rabbits for more than 30 years, taking pride in Winterbourne Rabbits’ expertise, experience and facilities. We specialise in the rescue and re-homing of rabbits and guinea pigs that, for whatever reason, can no longer be cared for in their existing homes.

As rabbits age, their health needs change...

Look out for mobility issues like difficulty hopping or stiffness, which can indicate arthritis. Changes in eating habits, drooling, or weight loss might signal dental problems. Significant weight changes, either loss or gain, are also important to monitor. Behavioural shifts, such as increased aggression or withdrawal, can indicate discomfort.
Ensure they have a high-fibre diet to support their sensitive digestion, and watch for signs of a dull fur coat or flaky skin, which can point to underlying health issues.

Regular vet visits are crucial for early detection and treatment of age-related issues. Provide your rabbit's with soft bedding and easy access to food and water. Keep them mentally stimulated with toys and gentle interaction, to ensure their happiness and well-being in their golden years.

Today is guinea pig appreciation day!

We love their quirky little characters here are some fun facts about them:

🍀Guinea pigs originate from the Andes region in South America
🍀They are very vocal. They like to "wheek" when excited and have a purr like sound when they are content
🍀They are precocial which means when they are born they are covered in fur and can already look after themselves if needed. They are normally fully weaned at about 3 weeks old.
🍀They are very active being awake for around 20 hours each day.
🍀They love company. A guinea pig on its own can get very sad so they need at least one friend.
🍀A group of guinea pigs is called a herd. A male is called a boar. A female is called a sow. Young are called pups.
