Why you'll never find a mirror sold in our shop ⬇️🙌
🚫 Toys to avoid 🚫
We often get asked why we don't stock any mirrors on our birdie toy wall! There is a very simple reason for this - mirrors are psychologically bad for your bird.
Birds, although very intelligent, do not recognise their own reflection! This gives the bird an incorrect perception of reality, they are not talking to another bird and therefore do not get the same interaction, reflections only mimic them.
Having a mirror inside your birds cage can cause a surge in hormonal behaviours, which in turn can cause issues such as;
🐦 Territorial behaviour
🐦 Biting/aggression
🐦Depression/frustration from lack of interaction from a possible mate
🐦Stress/obsession
🐦Attacking mirror (mirrors are breakable and can cause injury)
'But my budgie is fine and likes his mirror' - Unfortunately this is a common misconception, it is very likely that the mirror is causing psychological harm. Without a full understanding of bird behaviour, it may not seem that way to us humans.
There is a huge range of healthier toy options you can choose for your bird instead, including (but not limited to) foraging toys, shredding toys and clanger toys!
