It's a very sad day today π
We visited our vet today with some rescue birds, but took Gilly the Kakariki with us. We, along side our vet, decided in the best intrest of his welfare and despite our best efforts, after everything he's been through, it was time for Gilly to pass over the rainbow bridge π this decision wasn't easy π
After having two lance and lavage procedures on his eyes, culture swabs, at home eye flushes, F10 nebulising, 4 different instances of antibiotics, a rich diet of vitamin A, and also testing negative for chlamydia, PBFD and polyomavirus. Something was causing him to be immunosuppressed meaning the sinusitis and infection kept coming back. Cancer/tumor was brought up, or another unknown underlying cause.
For those who don't know Gillys background, he was found stray, outside, back in September 2024 with swollen and infected eyes believed to be sinusitis and taken in by Budgie Rescue - Wirral. These amazing ladies took him to see a vet and started his treatment. They brought him all the way to us so we could continue the investigation and treatment.
We want to thank everyone who supported Gillys journey and a massive thank you to the vets and nurses at Ark Vets β€οΈ he was a beautiful bird and as much as this decision hurts, we are so glad he came to us. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel π
