Update! We raised an amazing £962.00 with tickets, cakes and raffle! ❤️ Every single penny of that will go towards the running of our group.

Wow! What a wonderful, fascinating evening we had!

First of all we’d like to say a huge thank you to Ridings Equine Vets for supporting our fundraising and organising the event in such a fantastic way. It was genius! It must have taken a lot of preparation before hand - and also required their team to ‘host’ the tables. We are eternally grateful to have your support.

Our leg dissection evening was a sell out and judging from the comments everyone really enjoyed it. We played ‘musical chairs’ as each table had a different aspect, so everyone visited every table throughout the evening. There were lots of chances to ask questions, and even examine the ‘specimens’ if people wanted to!

There was a raffle and we had our usual cake and refreshment stall. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Rachel Thornton Veterinary Physiotherapy, CE Dressage, AY Horsemanship and Sellequine for their very generous raffle prize donations.

Also a huge thank you to everyone who bought tickets, ate cake, drank coffee and bought raffle tickets!!! You are helping to keep our group running.

And thanks also go to our dedicated volunteers who made the evening run so smoothly.

It’s a sell out! We are so excited about this Thursday’s event!

We are busy planning the room layout so everyone will have as good a view as they want!

The audience will be split into small groups for the ‘practical’ part of the evening.

We will be serving tea, coffee and our usual cakes throughout the evening so please bring a little cash as we don’t have a card machine.

There will also be a raffle with lots of lovely prizes, so again please have a little cash.

Every penny raised will go directly towards the running of our group!

We really appreciate your support.

See you on Thursday.

There’s been another supermarket theme running through today’s sessions.

Participants had a shopping list, chose groceries from the stand and put them into a shopping basket. They then rode around the arena until they found the matching card and put their shopping in the correct place.

Well done everyone. 👏👏👏

Today work placement student Alice came up with a great idea for a game. She created a supermarket - complete with aisles. Our participants then took their ponies into the supermarket and selected fruit and veg from the stands on the aisles. They then rode back to the kitchen to create their own unique recipe. There was lots of creativity and the food looked yummy!

Last week our some of our Camphill Wakefield students competed their grade 1 horse care award. They created this brilliant, informative poster and also completed the practical part of the award to demonstrate their horsecare practical knowledge. Well done everyone.

Our washing machine for our horses ‘laundry’ broke down a while ago and we’ve struggled along without one.

Last weekend we bought a replacement from the Outwood Salvation Army shop! Two charitable organisations helping each other out in these tough times. They are ‘sooooo pleased’ that they could help us - and we are ‘soooo happy’ that we could support them by buying from a great cause! And the delivery crew were so pleasant and helpful too.

This purchase was only possible because we received a very generous donation from the funeral collection in memory of Valerie Foster, who was the mother of trustee Karen Noden and her family. And we are very, very grateful.

Are we really so excited about ‘putting the washing in???’ Yes we are - our volunteers couldn’t wait to put the washer on this morning!

Yesterday our Camphill Wakefield students Lily and Daniel worked really hard in their ridden session. Lily did some great stretching exercises and Daniel worked independently on his rising trot. They both worked on transferring their reins into one hand using a game to pick up and put down hoops and fruit. They also did the usual yard jobs and at the end we had a quiz where we refreshed our knowledge on parts of the bridle. Well done everyone.

Yesterday’s game was our own RDA version of Snakes and Ladders (devised by coach Dawn!). Participant rolled the dice, then snaked through cones which represented spaces on the board. If they threw a 6, they landed at the pole that contained the coloured dice. This allowed them to 'fast track' through the the corresponding coloured rungs on the ladder (poles on the ground) to the Final Target! Brilliant work everyone. And well done to volunteer Jacob for tidying the car park.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to The Three Houses Sandal for choosing us as the local charity to donate their Christmas raffle proceeds to - and to their very generous customers.

Their Christmas Hamper raffle raised an amazing £205 which will make such a difference in these challenging times.

To put this into a day-to-day context, we could buy 4 big bales of hay, which will feed our horses for 4 weeks. Or it would buy 30 bales of bedding for our stables, which will last us until the summer, or it could pay for a visit from Josh our farrier, who visits every 6 to 8 weeks for routine hoof care.

Thank you again to everyone who bought raffle tickets. It is very much appreciated.

A few photos from today’s sessions. The focus was on developing core strength. Our Camphill Wakefield students were tasked to do stretching exercises whilst walking around the arena. It’s harder than it looks!
