We very much enjoyed our afternoon checking out this year’s entries for Walton Scarecrow Festival! Ava enjoyed it from an elevated position under a brolly… people call her princess and I have no idea why! 👀

🎆 with firework season coming up in the next couple of months, now is a good time to start with some desensitisation training (it’s very simple and can be very effective!).

🎇The key is to take things slowly, we use a firework soundtrack (there are loads of these online) and start with it as barely audible background noise, even if it’s just for a few minutes a couple of times a day. The main thing is that the volume is low enough so that it doesn’t trigger a fear response.
🎇Over the course of a few weeks you can gradually increase the volume and duration. Make it a positive experience, give lots of treats or play whilst it’s on in the background.
🎇Always reduce the volume or stop training if your pet ever shows signs of fear (panting/ running away/ hiding/ barking etc) no matter how quiet you think the sound is.

We will be doing another post in the next few weeks with lots of tips to help ease anxiety on the night, but sometimes it’s worth trying to reduce anxiety in the first place.
Some pets can be so noise phobic that even on the lowest volume they are triggered, in this case we advise not to continue and contact us. Let us know how you get on and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to send us a message!🎆

Here we have the very handsome Odin, who we have been treating for skin allergies.
There are a number of conditions which can be managed effectively from home.
If we feel your pet would benefit from being seen at a bricks and mortar practice, we’ll always let you know prior to booking in with us.

🐾Happy International Dog Day!🐶🎉

Let’s take a moment to celebrate the amazing bond we share with our dogs.
My dog isn’t just my best friend, she’s (the main) part of the family! She’s always there to lend an ear, gives unlimited cuddles and will always be my number one supporter and companion ❤️

How will you be celebrating with your dog today? Maybe going on their favourite walk, or a new toy or treat?
📷 Share a photo in the comments, we’d love to know how you’re celebrating!

🍃🌍 One of our goals is to be as eco-friendly as possible 🌍🍃
We’ve chosen to use glass pill bottles made of recycled materials which can also be recycled after use. Plus our gloves are biodegradable too.
They’re only small changes at the moment but we have the mindset that every little thing we can do will still contribute to helping the environment!

🐈Happy International Cat day!🐈 How are you celebrating with your cat today? Maybe with a new toy (or new box!)
Cats are so unique, definitely not just small dogs! We will only ever use cat friendly protocols during visits (lots of lick-e-lix and cat friendly handling techniques). We will also offer elderly cat clinics at home to reduce stress from vet visits as much as possible. These will include a full examination including ophthalmic exam, stress free blood pressure monitoring and in house urine tests.

The best thing about starting a new business for Maeve is all the boxes to test out! So far this label printer box seems to be the favourite! Anyone else have boxes around the house that just become part of the furniture?!
