It's GOLD for Team GB! 🥇

Scott Brash and Jefferson bring it home for the British team, picking up just one time fault to put us on a score of two, ahead of the USA and France 🥳

‼️Yet more scandal in the horse world ‼️
This hurts my heart that our beloved sport continues to be tarnished by people who should be doing better.
I’m not going to wade in what happened or post the video, but to the people judging the whistleblower and questioning their motives; THAT is why people get scared to come forward, because they do often face vilification themselves. Berating the whistleblower only stops other people from being brave enough to speak out against abuse from professionals so we should be focusing on the perpetrator not the whistleblower. Often when these things are happening people are scared to question the motives of someone with seemingly more knowledge and success than them, especially as the rider was apparently a minor who was probably very much in awe of CDJ. We can all get on our soap boxes about what WE would have done in that situation but the fact is we weren’t in that situation. So let’s focus on cleaning up our sport and not victim shaming as that achieves nothing.

This is an important read. The horse world would be a better place if people stopped to look within and stopped trying to justify harsh treatment to feel less guilt. And my pet peeve is people saying “He rushes his fences because he loves his job…” 🙄

Let’s repeat it for the ones in the back - or front, depends how you see it:

We can train and manage and condition our horses - but we can’t change the fact that they are horses.

Horses are prey animals. Their whole existence is wrapped around the ever on going play in nature between prey and predator.
Their whole being has evolved around the behavior and skills they need to play this game.

They played this game more than 50 million years.
The 5000 years of domestication won’t change that soon.

Your horse is supposed to spook from noise and sight.
Your horse is supposed to bolt when it feels threatened.
Your horse is supposed to buck off what’s on his back.
Your horse is supposed to search for food.
Your horse is supposed to be buddy sour.

All what we call „vices“ is simply a surviving mechanism, implanted deeply into the DNA of every horse.

Your horse lives in a human world, where he has no handbook for in his genes. He is just being a horse.

It’s your task to show him trust, patience, calmness, strength, assertiveness and fairness. But you have to be like this yourself.

You cannot expect what you are not ready to give.

It’s your responsibility to help your horse navigate.

Acts of aggression, confining him, calling him names, defining him as „naughty“, does not teach or proof any horse to behave the right way. It only shows your capability of teaching a horse.

There are so many techniques, methods, tools and trainers all defining „bad behavior“ and their solutions, all hustling and managing around a horse to bend and press it into a form. All of them, that claim to be so knowledgeable, so experienced, so wise, have forgotten, that the horse is just a horse.

This is absolutely adora-bull; this dog proves you don’t have to be the best at something to have fun! No matter where you are at in your training / life / your hobbies, it’s great to want to improve but above all else don’t forget to enjoy the ride!

🎉🎈 ANNOUNCEMENT 🎈🎉

After an amazing 3 and a half years basing myself at Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick, the time has come to move on to fresh challenges 💪 Having thought very carefully about my future and where I want to go, I am making the switch to classroom teaching and have secured my dream job lecturing in Animal Science at degree level. This means I am handing over the reins at QMs to a new business owner, although I will still be available for freelance coaching and riding on selected days across certain areas of West, South and North Yorkshire. I will be extremely sad to say goodbye to all my awesome clients around Escrick, and my group of top tier liveries, without whom the last 3.5 years wouldn’t have been as brilliant as they have been. A big thank you to you all, and here’s to 2023! 💜

💙 Yesterday marked my 3 year anniversary of being based at Queen Margaret’s; can’t believe how quickly it’s gone yet also how much has happened in the last 3 years! As always, ever thankful for my wonderful liveries and ever loyal bunch of clients 🥰 It’s been a journey, and one that continues daily, in a constant bid to make improvements and think of new ways to level up and make each year better than the last 💪

💜 Young pre stallion Geo has been working well this week; after only 8 sessions we're now up to walking and trotting alone around the arena like a big boy. We've had a teenage tantrumn or two, but nothing major, and he's slowly starting to show his potential 😍

✨ From re-backing stallions, to educating ex-racers, and hopping on ponies that haven't been sat on in a year; my job is certainly varied!! 💜

⭐ I have recently taken on this stunning little Spanish bred stallion, who is hopefully going to have a career in dressage alongside his breeding duties. He was lightly backed 18 months ago, so we're now starting from the beginning again before getting him in proper work. So far he's taking everything in his stride and being an absolute dude! 💜

⭐ Schooling livery Storm learning about bend and contact in the arena - these pictures are just moments in time, and he was understandably inconsistent; he is straight out of racing and had the last 6 weeks in the field, but he's a real trier and hopefully he'll make a fab riding horse for his owner once he's had a bit of education 💜

I cannot express how much I love this diagram and how strongly I feel about it...Horses do not do things for no reason or just to "wind you up". Note the orange and pink labels; no, your horse may not be in pain, but no, it's still not "just being naughty"! As riders and horse people, we must look at ourselves before we blame the horse, and we owe it to our horses to do what needs to be done to get the best out of them.
