It's been a busy few weeks here at Eclipse!

While I process all the new baby photos, here's a random selection of hatching photos for you :)

This Axanthic superconda looked like he was silver plated! It's a shame the baby sheen doesn't last long - he's still a gorgeous baby though.
The little axanthic at 2.14g was the first snake in this clutch to hatch, and has taken the record from 'Worm' as the smallest hognose to hatch - Worm was 2.45g and is almost up to 10 now!

The final pairing of the season here was with Elvira and Bob - she's possibly het for ghost, and he is an axanthic conda. She laid 14 good-looking eggs, but a few didn't fare so well. I'm not confident that these two will make it, but they're surviving so far, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them.

**Candle before you cut!**

- edited to add - if in doubt, do not cut. There's a high chance you'll do more harm than good.

The first pip from this clutch was in the early hours of Monday morning. I candled the remaining eggs every 3-6 hours during the day.
I cut one egg (which had no visible veins on candling) on Tuesday morning, and another on Wednesday morning.
This picture was taken over 75 hours after the first pip. As you can see, this egg is still not ready to hatch; there are large veins throughout the shell membrane providing oxygen exchange that could result in significant bleeding if they were cut.

I've spoken with newer breeders who have lost snakes due to cutting through a vein - they were following what they've seen countless times on social media, the 'standard practice' of cutting all the remaining eggs 24 or 48 hours after the first pip. I hope this post will help avoid situations like this for anyone wondering if or when they should intervene and cut an egg.

These eggs are from E3 - a Subzero male, possibly het axanthic - paired with Anna, a snow female. All the babies will be arctic albino, and if E3 is het axanthic, half will be arctic snow!

This pairing was one I didn't think would be successful; E3 was only hatched last year! He was big at hatching, and has been a fantastic feeder, reaching 50g at the time of pairing, so I thought I'd give him a go - he obviously did the job!

The egg at the top right is likely to mould at the end where it's not formed quite right, so I'll be putting some springtails in this tub and keeping a close eye in case I need to separate it from the others.

A repeat pairing from last year, this is Ernie and Arctic - both arctic het snow. They produced some stunning arctic axanthic and super arctic albino last year, this time I'm hoping for some snow, arctic snow, maybe even super arctic snow!

It's a great looking clutch but her last two eggs that look slightly darker and shiny have no shell, they're just the inner membrane - you can see the embryo inside clearly, It'll be really interesting to watch the development!

What a stunning clutch of pearly whites from Cagney! First time mum and she's been paired with Bathory - so we should see sables and sable conda as well as normal.

If both possible hets prove out there could also be toffeebelly (and Mai Tai) in here 🀞🀞🍹

The eggs from Xanthi and Andy, there were a lot of slugs from this first clutch, and one of the surviving eggs isn't looking fantastic, but there's still a clear embryo when candling. I've added some springtails to help clear up the mould that's started on that egg - I'll give it a few days and maybe separate it if things don't improve.
