Ten Pawsome points for During times of fireworks

1. Keep calm -stress can be transferred to your dog making them feel there is something to be upset over.
2. Don’t over comfort your dog, as dogs can see this attention as a reward and show nervous behaviours to gain further comfort.
3. Keep your windows and curtains closed.
4. Turn the television sound up and try and stay with your dog.
5. Use calming aids such as adaptil products that release a calming pheromone
6. Use Thundershirts to make your dogs feel secure.
7. Make sure to let your dog out to the toilet early to avoid displays and try and stay with them in the garden.
8. Use filled toys to distract your dog.
9. Lick matts and snuggle matts can be used to help distract your dog.
10. Chews and chew toys will release a calming endorphin for your dog.

I don’t recommend slip leads other than for use in emergencies, I keep a slip lead in the car to help rescue dogs and today as I turned into my road a dog was running towards the car, we followed the dog to the next road where someone had cornered the dog, the slip lead was thrown over the dog and we were able to then take the dog to the car and put in the cage to take the dog back to the owner.
