So so sad what is happening to the street dogs in Turkey. We as a family, won't be travelling again there anytime soon. If you haven't heard. The Turkish government have announced the capture or killings of all street dogs in Turkey. This is just awful. This video is from our holiday there in May and these dogs were just so sweet. Many local people feed and care for the street dogs and are outraged. Protests by locals have been happening but their government aren't listening. I'm sharing this for awareness of what is happening over there. Those poor dogs π’

Reality of being a dog owner!!!
Many people love the idea of having a dog join their family. But when that idea turns to reality, it doesn't always work out the way they had dreamed it would. Many dogs and other animals are discarded because that idea didn't work for them. There could be many reasons, most are petty. Some have a geniune reason, and it's in the dogs best interest. But it's really a sad situation for those poor dogs.
Having a dog in your life is wonderful. It's hard work, from the beginning, right to the very end, but also very rewarding. You have many fun and fantastic times together. You'll also have some worrying and sad times together. Then comes expense. It can be expensive owning a dog.
Don't get a dog if you can't commit to their needs.
Our reality at home at the mommet is: We have 2 elderly dogs. Denbi 16 on Monday and Rocco 14. 6 weeks ago Rocco went in for a dental to have some teeth removed and cleaned. Rocco didn't come out the same dog as before he went in. We're not sure if it's brain injury or there was an underlying issue (possible brain tumour). Rocco in the space of a few days became completely blind, he was already deaf. So is now learning to use his nose more. He bumps into things, gets lost in the house and has to be guided every so often to his water bowl, because sometimes he can't find it. He now toilets in the house, which he never used to. So we have to let him out every few hours. That includes waking up during the night to do that. He'll walk around in circles alot and then get dizzy and fall over. The first few weeks after surgery, his balance was off. But that has improved slighlty. At the moment he is ok. He's not in pain. He was very depressed at first but we've given lots and lots of fuss and tried to do things that used to make him happy and he shows his happy face again. He loves food, so new different treats are keeping him busy. He loves the beach, although he won't really walk far as I think he's scared because he can't see. So now I have to carry him. He loves coming to work and pottering around still but he can't be with the other dogs anymore sadly. He loves hanging out with the animals though.
We're doing our best for him and at the moment, taking each day as it comes till the very end.
Denbi our old girl: We were saying our goodbyes on Monday morning. During the early hours of Monday morning, Denbi became very unwell. She was very sick everywhere, including over poor Rocco. I was washing dog beds and dogs at 1.30 in the morning. She was lethargic, couldn't stand and kept collapsing. She was very weak. I recognised her symptoms but obviously I 100% wasn't certain. I told my husband and children that if it was what I suspected, on visiting the vet, she probably wouldn't be coming home. I suspected pyometra. If you don't know what that is, it's an infection of the womb (very serious) and usually requires emergency surgery. She's an old dog so surgery at her age would have been out of the question. She's a unspayed female, so it was always a risk. So, on visiting the vet first thing Monday, they confirmed what I thought. And the only suggestion was flush her with antibiotics. This usually isn't an option because it very rarely works and the infection gets worse (sepsis). Emergency surgery is the usual practice to take away the infected womb and ovaries. Anyway, within hours of receiving antibiotics and hormone injections. Denbi has miraculously responded very well. She's only had antibiotics once before in her life. So I think that has helped. On seeing her 24 hours later. The vet was very shocked and elated. She's on more antibiotics and hormone injections, and will be visiting the vet again in a week. Hopefully it doesn't come back but we'll deal with that. Right now we're happy she's still with us.
This is our reality. It's an expensive one at the moment. But I'll do what I can for my dogs, they're part of our family.
So, if you have an idea of a dog joining your family. Be prepared and do your homework. It's a commitment for 14+ years.

Tuesday doggies enjoying their onsite walk. They love exploring this area. There has been a delay in completing this area fully to hire out. But after tomorrow all will be finished. Would you like your dog enjoy some play time with friends? We have various time options to suit, with prices as low as Β£10. Contact 0151 630 4813 or 07821 029184 Email [email protected] Or message us through here π
We let the doggies have a taster of the new walk in the park area. It was all rather exciting, with new smells and sights. A few disappeared up the muck heap π which has yet to be blocked off and still a little bit of fencing work to be done. But it'll be ready for the weekend. And will be available as part of hiring the dog park too. Only non reactive dogs will be permitted to be offlead in this area. Otherwise, if you would like to walk this area you will need to put your dog on a lead to prevent them lunging at the fence line as we do have a nosey pony. Want your dog to enjoy sometime here and make friends? We have openings for day care dogs join us π
Lovely sunshine and a fresh cut dog park. I'm very lucky to do what I do, and watch dogs have fun with their friends. On that note: you'll be noticing some changes going on over the next few weeks. We're creating an actual walk in the park, giving dogs more enrichment, more scents and smells, while offering a different visual perspective and a more interesting visit. This also applies to the humans. You'll see very soon π. We also have more news to come, so keep an eye on our page.
